Zogby: Obama "walloped" by WalMart voters
— Purple Avenger

Interesting, because this is a decidedly non-Tiffany's demographic Obama wants to appeal to - the poor and middle class he claims he wants to "help". For whatever reason, they ain't buying his pitch so far.

Among those who said they shop regularly at Wal-Mart - a demographic group that Zogby has found to be both "value" and "values" voters - Obama is getting walloped by McCain. Winning 62% support from weekly Wal-Mart shoppers, McCain wins these voters at a rate similar to what President Bush won in 2004. Obama wins 24% support from these voters.
And 22% of Hillary supporters are claimed to be going off the reservation too:
The interactive survey shows that 22% of those voters who supported Democrat Hillary Clinton in their primary elections or caucus earlier this year are now supporting John McCain.
Come to WalMart for the low prices, stay for the hot VP. What's not to like?

1 Well....even if most of those Palin Pumas go back to the Democratic Party, even 5% of Hillary's voters would tip the deal over to McCain. I figured he was going to win before, now I'm certain of it.

More's the pity.

2 This is a post from the Krauthammer thread over at HotAir. I want to repeat it because I think it captures something important. Loxodonta: Sarah Palin is not just a trap for men, liberals, and Democrats, she is a trap for all elitists. And that includes elitists who are conservative, but with a differing ideology.

Posted by: LiveFreeOrDie at August 30, 2008 05:29 PM (IuoBb)

3 Well, here's the quote of the day at Hot Air. “The great threat to the Obama-Biden ticket can be captured in one word: authenticity.” “Liberals love Obama because he is a Numinous Negro. Conservatives love Palin because she has a Downs baby and an M-16.” I am very, very comfortable with this.

5 I've always thought that McCain would win, even before the Palin pick, and this is just more evidence.

Palin just sealed the deal. As far as I'm concerned, Obama should just pack up and go home. All the money he's going to be spending on the campaign will be wasted.

On the one side, we have a war hero teamed up with a hockey mom who worked in the commercial fishing industry (and whose eldest son is currently serving in Iraq).

And on the other side, we have a couple of lawyers, one of whom has been in DC so long, most people probably can't remember a time when he wasn't there.

This one won't even be close, folks.

I doubt Obama is troubled by spending all of that dough, Oregon Muse.

It's not his money.

8 I don't trust Zogby very much, and I can't get the link to open, but I suspect the harder the 'Progressives' pound on Palin the more cover they'll give Wal*Mart moms who don't want to vote for Obama.

I'm still mixed about Palin, although I don't think she's a lot worse than many other VP candidates.  However, just seeing the tizzy she's thrown the 'elitists' into is worth it.

I just love the idea the she's not an authentic 'woman' because she doesn't toe the Feminist/Progressive line.  Believe or not, there are a lot of women out there who aren't all that happy with the Feminist/Progressive line.  Like my wife.  (ABD, stats job, wildly independent, she got off that train the first Womens' Studies class she took.)  And My sister.  (Bank VP of IT, GED, former unmarried mom.)  And my daughter.  And my nieces. And my ex-wife.  And my ex-wife's mom.

Hell, even one of my liberal colleagues in poli sci is pretty angry all the time at the Feminist/Progressive line.  I'll be interested to see how she likes Palin.

Er...stupid sock puppet.

Ok, I am a moron.  I can't even spell my own handle.

10 As I tried to argue at Hot Air, the conservative fuss over Palin is silly and misguided. Is she or is she not a "real" conservative? She is. No RINO is governing Alaska. Are we facing a national election or a college debate team? A national election. It is absurd and reactionary to argue that choosing Palin is mere identity politics. If McVain, as some choose to style him, had chosen Olympia Snowe or some other RINO with a mothership between her legs, you could argue identity politics. But are we so stupid and hamstrung by the way the Leftards want to frame the discussion that we cannot nominate anyone who isn't white, male, and part of the DC culture? Can we EVER nominate anyone who isn't white, male, safe and dull? The beauty of the Palin pick is that she is a real, no bullshit conservative, AND she can truly boast she opposed her own party. She personally axed the noxious Ted Steven's Bridge to Nowhere. Uh, hello NRO, but Stevens is a fucking Republican, is he not? The kind that made us lose the 2006 elections? Does anyone think the Leftards would be shaking in their boots about this scenario: Hey, doodz, the RethugliKKKan hate machine has picked another rich white guy as VP, and he's not only rich but dull as a butter knife! Kewl, it's skin and gut time, fellow Proggy doodz!!!1!!11! Hasn't the whole conservative project this election cycle been fretting about That Darned Maverick and will he screw the base again? Well, he not onlly picked a real conservative, but guess what... she happens to be young, female, and is better on a candid camera than Obastard could hope to be in seven centuries. What is the fucking problem? Sometimes I think many conservatives love the country, but love LOSING even more.

11 I bought vodka at Wal*Mart just this afternoon, and I'm supporting Palin...and that bastard McCain,  I guess.

Posted by: Jeff_McAwesome at August 30, 2008 06:19 PM (G07ST)

12 Wal-Mart shoppers don't f-ing vote, it's way too complex for them.  Around here the only thing Wal-Mart is good for is getting your car wrecked by some uninsured obese retard.

Posted by: John Galt at August 30, 2008 06:40 PM (Ylv1H)

13 If you live in an urban area my comment might sound a bit too harsh but here, the Wal-Mart parking lot is by far the.most.dangerous.place to walk or drive in the entire county.

Posted by: John Galt at August 30, 2008 06:45 PM (Ylv1H)

14 The liberal elitists who hate Wal-Mart don't realize that it is simply a natural Darwinian process for income redistribution, the degree of that redistribution being directly proportional  to the degree of liberal elitist beliefs.  Rock on.

15 Need some opinions please.  If this hurricane hits and is as bad as predicted, should the Republican convention continue (maybe multi facilities/satellite link) and morph into a disaster recovery/help center?  Or something to that effect?  I think this would turn lemons into lemonade.  The media coverage would dwarf Obamas.

Posted by: sirsurfalot at August 30, 2008 07:23 PM (Czvjx)

16 I am thinking 24 hour phone banks, and have McCain at one center and Palin at another center.  Please advise.

Posted by: sirsurfalot at August 30, 2008 07:25 PM (Czvjx)

17 Something telethon style (without the Gaudy Glitz like Obama)

Posted by: sirsurfalot at August 30, 2008 07:26 PM (Czvjx)

18 If the hurricane hits, McCain would do well to just postpone/cancel the convention and redeploy his campaign staff doing real relief work -- not Sean Penn type fake relief work.  Put'em all down there for a few weeks in tents eating and handing out MRE's in the hot sun.  If they complain, fire'em.

You know the O'bots ain't gonna get their hands dirty like that.  This is McPain's big chance to really show what he's got (assuming he's got anything to show).

21 Is New Orleans really going to need relief workers. Seems like that should have this shit down pat at this point.

22 I want in on this.  I'm heading over to WalMart tomorrow and buying myself a walloper.

Posted by: DPR VIII at August 30, 2008 08:01 PM (4XUD3)

23 So let me get this straight:  the Democrats have spent the past decade expressing contempt for Wal-Mart shoppers, attempting to destroy the company, blaming it for every evil under the sun -- and now they're puzzled that they aren't getting support from Wal-Mart shoppers?

"Maybe if we call them inbred racist rednecks some more they'll come around!"

"Yeah!  That always works!"

24 JorgXMcKie, You'd be suprised on how many women, even those in college are disenchanted with the progressive/feminist movement. All the PROFS are scared too.
