— Ace Um...
"I'll have to get back to you as soon as I can"?
They're obviously trying to get their stories straight and figure out some plausible way to claim this had nothing to do with the Obama campaign.
They're a crisis communications firm. And they've had 12 hours to figure out their story. But they apparently haven't come up with a good one yet.
I wonder if Liu-Klein realizes that as the lowest man on the totem poll here, he's the obvious fall-guy: "We regret an overly eager employee decided to hijack our YouTube accounts for his own unauthorized political purposes..."

This is the part that cracks me up. Physician, heal thyself. To be fair, its possible that part of succesful crisis management is sheer disinterested chutzpah, aided by the lie repeated often enough. The former is apparently out once they're the ones on the hook, and the latter is hampered by what's already on the record and the necessity of covering for their beneficiary. I still find it hilarious.

And they're described as one of the top PR firms in the world and ultra-internet savvy and all that.
And yet they didn't even do some minimal due diligence in masking their own monikers on the internet. It's very odd. You'd think guys that were going to pull this sort of skulduggery would at least go to the trouble of coming up with better monikers than "eswinner".
I mean come on. Didn't Obama's money buy him more competence than that?

Is this video that has your fingerprints all over it and was sent from your long-standing account that everybody acknowledges was yours and you've used before, and it's clearly yours, is that yours? Did you do that thing we have video of you doing?
"Um, I'll have to get back to you on that."
I suppose that's slightly less incriminating than: "I plead the fifth."

There's only one plausible explanation. They weren't thinking about how it was going to look. They simply weren't thinking that the blogosphere was going to connect all the dots, because they've probably done similar things before, no better hidden, for other clients, and it's worked. This would have worked, without Ace of Spades and Jawa report and others. Just as Rathergate would have been nothing without Little Green Footballs.
Which is also the explanation for the vigorous take down and the cancelling of the accounts. Which is clearly an over-reaction. You don't over-react that way, if you have an exit strategy, or if you've thought about what you're doing. It makes them look guilty as hell, it implicates Obama in the smear--even if he has plausible deniability, the deletion of the accounts looks bad because it makes it look like there is something serious to cover-up.
Chances are, this strategy originated with Axelrod and Axelrod is generally a good strategerist and speechwriter and puppeteer, and since he is the voice of the Obama campaign, nobody wants to see Axelrod taken out and thrown under the bus by getting connected with this.

Come on Mr. Liu-Klein, you have to be bold in these situations!
Did Bill Clinton say, "Sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky? I'll have to get back to you on that."
Did Dan Rather say, "Are these documents fake? I'll have to get back to you on that."
You have to be bold, pick a position, and stick to it. What makes it really easy is that the press will cover for you.

By whom? It's not surprising a PR firm would describe itself as "one of the top PR firms in the world". In fact, it would be surprising if they didn't. I'm wondering if PR is one of those fields, like "business consulting", where nobody can tell if you're incompetent. Management feels like it's on top of things because they brought in "hired guns", but they're not really sure what you do.

I dunno. I hope you're right and I hope it's provable and I hope it blows up in the Democrites' faces and sinks Obambi's candidacy, sinks it real good, but ...
that voice is pretty much the exact same woman-voice that seems to be in EVERY political spot for every candidate, every election. Sometimes it seems like there's only about two voice-over artists doing ALL the political spots, for both sides. There's William Windom as "Aging Concerned Guy," and there's this chick as "Insidious Insinuating Bitch," and maybe one or two others.
So yeah, it's evidence, but not quite damning evidence.

#64, in #60's defense, recall that Dan Rather tried to sell baldfaced lies on national TV, and when called on it, kept digging...on national TV.
Recall also that journalists have the morals of a pack of jackals: the only thing better than taking down a Republican is taking down a competing journalist. There was a bit of a positive feedback loop going on with the Rathergate thing.
I think Ace's original promotion of this story, i.e. that it was of "medium" interest, still holds.
This isn't the 1,000 pound bomb that takes out the Akagi, though it might be part of the sporadic series of attacks that keeps Obama too busy playing defense to notice the descending 1,000 pound bomb while he can still do anything about.
We shall see.

Um yeah, I came to this story late, like today, and I didn't dream that up. Its in one of the links I followed from this site. I'm sorry, I don't have time to look through all that stuff again.
I don't know what to say about this. Yes, presidential campaigns engage in bullshit. Yes, you also expect them to be minimally competent at that behavior.
The only thing shocking about this is that they got caught. THAT's the real story.
I mean, it's sort of one of the tests. If you cannot get away with this stuff in a campaign then obviously you aren't qualified to be president. These guys have committed the cardinal sin - they've indicted their own client.

You already know that Hannity will turn it into a farce.
Someone needs to be combing expenditures. If I knew how, I'd start with payouts to ACORN from the Obama campaign (there was a recent one for $800,000) and then cutouts from them to the PR firm or any number of middlemen, but ultimately leading back to Axelrod.

I wrote the following comment this morning. Guess what?
Jawa's original report is gone from Meme. Just in time for people to read it after work. I rest my case.
Watch how fast this falls off the bottom of Memeorandum. I've been watching Meme for a few weeks now and it has become increasingly dominated by pro-Obama, anti-McCain, and very anti-Palin links.
Today is unusual because there is so much bailout news but if you look at http://www.memeorandum.com/lb
Meme's Leaderboard
of the top 25 links 20 (including MSM which we know is in the tank for O) are clearly left, proO/antiMP. Only three (The Corner, Hot Air, Michelle Malkin) could be construed as proMP/antiO.
Why is Meme still treated as a reliable source?
