— Ace The word has come down that they can't malign the soldiers whom they desperately wish to spit upon. Mostly they restrain themselves from doing that (mostly), but channel their hatred towards the non-forbidden focus of hate, civilian contractors.
You know -- security guards on the most hazardous duty on the face of the earth. Protecting unarmed civilians, relief workers, diplomats, and journalists from being murdered.
Obviously they're getting what they so richly deserve.

Marybeth, I am sorry for your loss. I presume that since your husband was fighting for all Americans, he was fighting for my right to disagree. They make it possible to run an illegally "justified" war and make an obscene amount of money while doing it. I myself am concerned that since Blackwater bows to the highest bidder, and are so close to Washington that the orderly transition of power is threatened. Your husband while a good man, was a mercenary. He did not take his orders from the U.S., but from an ultra-conservative billionaire and the likes of Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney. He made a lot of money doing it. He in no way equates with the grandmother from Ohio, in the National guard who lost her life, she and those guardsmen, and all soldiers like them are heroes and to be greatly admired. They were following the orders of the U.S government and died carrying them out. Sadly there is a difference....

Dear Ms. Laguna: I am sorry for your loss, but no matter how noble your husband may have been, in many ways, the fact is that he was a thrill junkie who was being paid as a mercenary in a bad war at the time of his death. He loved to fly and to help people, but he also loved the adrenaline rush of watching tracer rounds go past his cockpit. Otherwise, he could have stayed right here in the US and flown and helped people. "Blackwater" and "hero" do not belong in the same sentence.

Sometimes I just let A.E. Housman do my talking for me:
Epitaph on Army of Mercenaries (1914)
These, in the days when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.
Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood, and the earth's foundations stay;
When God abandoned, these defended,
And saved the sum of things--for pay.

Liberals are the most self-indulgent, sheltered, dillusional, worthless people on the face of the planet. I have never met a happy liberal that's content with life and enjoys what they do. Never met one that was willing to make a sacrifice without expecting something in return.
Thank God men like this woman's husband had the courage to make these sacrifices, rather than poo-pooing concepts like courage and honor whilst jacking off to their lemming-like liberal groupthink under the guise of being 'intelligent'.

Is the security guard that just shot the guy at the Scientology Celebrity Center a mercenary, then?
The left hates Blackwater because Eric Prince is a Republican. They should like him, because he came from a rich family and joined the Armed forces, which is something that supposedly doesn't ever happen. So they choose to demonize him and his company. It's easier.

WTF?
These mouth breathing cretins have their facts in hand? Just because you choose to employ you skills in a better paying scenario does not make you a mercenary. I have an extensive military background as an Army Grunt of verious flavors and I could easily have gone over to the sandbox to do intel, since the military has chosen to rehire separated military types to supplement its meagerly thin ranks in logistics, intel, transportation and a huge goldmine of maintenance functions that the military just doesn't have the folks to do...Are they mercenary as well?
You can consider yourself whatever you please, but before you apply your self-described title to someone else consider what you're doing carefully. I had a number of offers from the US Govt to go over join in the fun at the outset but I had a marriage and a career to deal with here. I never considered what I might do as being mercenary, since the term when used pejoratively describes someone who fights for money...and under whoever has that money's flag, regardless of their side of a conflict. Contractors do not act in that manner.
Looking at it from that realistic viewpoint, unless a person is willing to fight for Al Sadr, Al Qaeda in Iraq or whatever side offered the best pay, that person, being under a one sided contract is indeed a "Contractor" or person acting under such a Contract, a legal instrument. Not a mercenary. There is a difference.
Moomintroll, whatever you consider yourself, and whatever you did in the military, aside from playing Gears of War, you malign this man and anyone else who chooses to supplement the standing military by acting as a contractor, and you, sir, are a cockholster.
And definitely a Troll.
Do whatever you want, join whatever you want, call yourself the freaking Pope if you want but don't call these men what you call yourself. Let your actions speak for you and you alone.
Oh, did I mention that you're a cockholster?
If I didn't, you are a cockholster and a snatchfaced candy-ass.
There, that about does it.

True baldilocks, but it doesn't end there. When I joined the army in 1993, we used to have lots of cooks to make hot meals, engineers to build hardstand housing, and truck drivers to haul beans, bullets and gas to where it was needed. All of which were organic to their respective units. We also used to have a lot more mechanized infantry (of which I was one) to guard these trucks full of beans, bullets, building supplies and mailbags full of letters, pogie bait and fuck books from home. You know, morale-builders.
By the time I got out six years later, most of those cooks, engineers, drivers, and a lot of the infantry had been cut so we could enjoy our "peace dividend." Problem was, we immediately increased our number of "peacekeeping" commitments worldwide in Haiti, Kosovo, Croatia, etc. As a result, troops are spending months in Macedonia in a GP Small tent with a wooden pallet for a floor and eating MREs and shitty K rations because now there's no troops who build housing, or cook hot meals in the field.
Enter the evil empire - Halliburton. Or more specifically, it's subsidiary, Kellogg, Brown and Root. They build the shitters, they cook the food, and they drive the trucks. What they DON'T do is provide their own security. And with BJ's drawdown, we have less of our own assets to guard our own logistics tail. Now you need another evil company to pull security for the first evil company.
What these idiots don't understand is that "mercenary" denotes a hired soldier deployed in both offensive and defensive roles. What Blackwater is doing is supplying security guards to a government that doesn't have enough of it's own, through it's own fault. They may be highly-trained and well-equipped security guards, but that's what they are.
Rebuild the capabilities that Clinton destroyed in the nineties, and these cockholsters won't have to worry about mercenaries anymore, and they can get back to hating our soldiers directly, with no middleman.

I spent two years in Iraq working as a police advisor, which is about in the middle of the pay range for armed contractors. My pay was about double that of one of the Sgts I worked with a lot (and talked with about how much money each of us made). But then, I had to pay taxes on mine, I got no VA benefits, no GI bill, no retirement, etc. No complaints, the terms of the contract were clear and I knew what I was signing up for, and the vast majority of soldiers I knew had the same attitude regarding their own contracts (Ooo...that's right, they sign contracts and get paid too...does that make them mercenaries?).
I don't mind somebody calling me a mercenary, because I don't consider the term perjorative, I just wish these asshats would get a clue about the real world before spouting off. Oh, and I wish I did get paid as much as they seem to think I did.

... hence actual military personnel are becoming more concentrated into the 'combat arms' branches/MOSs wherein they go on offensive ops; conversely, there is no limit to the number of civil service and contractor personnel in the 'support' lines (while experiencing similar hardships, these REMF positions are generally safer); so why not go for the pay raise...
.. while the dnc drones piss-and-moan about the 'mercs' they chose to hire.

Mercenaries fight for the highest bidder. Period. They don't have a side. If Al Qaeda put up a better offer for a mercenary, they'd take it because they're only in it for the money.
Civilian contractors, on the other hand, are US citizens who are not going to flip to the other side simply because someone on the other side made them a financial offer greater than the one their home countrymen made them.

Like so many in todays society the uneducated are always the loudest.
To those who spend way to much time reading fiction magazine, and should have picked up a dictionary, Mercenary: An individual who fights for monetary gain AGAINST his own country - meaning he fights for another country. Art and blackwater employees protect AMERICANS and work for the United States Dept of State.
Secondly: The US Military has not felt the burden of companies like blackwater. Art RETIRED from the military and it was long after that he went to work for blackwater. If you look at history Southwest Airlines was originally made up of all fomer military from the vietnam war. My point is simple - men and women from the beginning have always sought a second career AFTER serving our nation - unlike most on the BLOGs who sit back never having served but write about it like they have.
Do your homework boys and girls before you come packing opinion.

I read comments from people and sit amazed at the level of Stupidity and low intelliect. More often than not people choose to malign things they do not understand, do not know and do not even comprehend. I called these MORONS "Keyboard Commando's" because they go by the mantra "I have a keyboard but not a brain and will type anything".
Military Contractors are not bad people. They are your next door neighbors sons, fathers, brothers, husbands. When was the last time YOU turned down the opportuntity to make more money for your family in a Legally and Morally acceptable and reasonble business? Yea, thought so.
I would Venture that every single person maligning Art Laguna or Any Contractor has NEVER been overseas in combat at anywhere, anytime, anyplace. They probably couldnt point out Iraq on a map without help (if the names were blurred out). But they are "Experts" on how bad and how immoral contractors are. What they fail to remember is that even the Military has its own bad apples - remember Abu Graib.. not that I'm even thinking that was really that bad either. All contractors who provide PSD (Personal Security Detail) or actual Combat assignments are PRIOR US MILITARY, mostly Special Operations, Navy SEALS, Army SF, Marines etc. They are VETERANS - some of them, some of them have Purple Hearts from their Service to this great Country.
Military Contractors provide security to alot of people and alot of things over in Iraq and the Stan. They are out there on the front lines and they are dying just like everyone else in these wars.. and they are serving our Country too.
Liberals and Asshats, go to war and then come back and then give us all your wisdom and knowledge. Until then, shut your stupid pie holes because you are making yourselves look like MORONS.
God Bless the USA, God Bless our Troops AND our Contractors

If only we could eliminate the reckless, underpaid military and replace them all with these professional Blackwater peace-keepers. They are doing such a great job in Iraq, just ask the Iraqi government. They'll tell you how much they appreciate the hard work and sacrifice the Blackwater patriots are giving. Blackwater peacekeepers eat flags for breakfast and shit bibles for lunch. They are so patriotic, they cry tears of holy water which cure disease.
