— Ace The Kinks' Catch Me Now I'm Falling, also known as Captain America Calling, at least to me.
Just thought I'd share.
Over and over again. Both the long and short versions.
It kept going through my head after 9/11. The lyrics were pretty damn spot-on:
I remember, when you were down
And you needed a helping hand
I came to feed you
But now that I need you
You wont give me a second glance
Now Im calling all citizens from all over the world
This is captain america calling
I bailed you out when you were down on your knees
So will you catch me now Im fallingHelp me now Im calling you
Catch me now Im falling
Im in your hands, its up to you
Catch me now Im fallingI remember when you were down
You would always come running to me
I never denied you and I would guide you
Through all of your difficulties
Now Im calling all citizens from all over the world
This is captain america calling
I bailed you out when you were down on your knees
So will you catch me now Im fallingHelp me now Im calling you
Catch me now Im falling
Im in your hands, its up to you
Catch me now Im fallingWhen you were broke you would come to me
And I would always pull you round
Now I call your office on the telephone
And your secretary tells me that shes sorry,
But, youve gone out of town.*This is captain america calling
This is captain america callingHelp me now Im calling you
Catch me now Im falling
Im in your hands, its up to you
Catch me now Im falling*Alternate Lyric:
I stood by you through all of your depressions
and I lifted you when you were down
now it's your chance to do the same for me
and your secretary tells me that
you've gone out of town
I guess the Katrina disaster makes me think of it too, except now Captain America can help its own (scan down for a list of relief charities).
On My Wavelength Update-- Tres writes:
The thing that makes me feel as if my Cheerios have been pee'd upon is that I have yet to hear of any relief efforts being offered from our "friends" throughout the world. Lord knows we've put it out there for any of them time and time again.
That's sort of what I'm thinking.
Again, the lyrics:
I never thought that you would let me down
But the next time youre in trouble
Better not come running to me
Just So You Don't Think I'm Calling America A Weaking Update: Some ass-kicking Captain America lyrics:
When Captain America throws his mighty shield
All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield
If he's led to a fight and a duel is due
Then the red and the white and the blue will come through
When Captain America throws his mighty shield!

And we don't "need" their help. But they weren't as forthcoming with help as they ought to have been.

As the article says, it's a general offer since they don't know what we need exactly, but they're willing to pitch in where and when we need them.

'Captain America THROWS his MIGH-TY SHEEEIIILLD!'
What is that FROM?! Why must you torment me? I had just come to terms with the idea that it was a figment of my imagination.

Gosh, it only seems like a few months back that whiny little pissant bureaucrats around the world were criticizing the U.S. for not doing enough for the tsunami victims. To all of them:
SHOW ME THE MONEY!

And yes, they've been throwing them water, food, and ice from overhead, as well as water. They're doing what they can.
Meanwhile, the CNN schills, with their 'I'm-a-reporter-to-the-core-and-nothing-affects-my-Vulcan-composure' attitude are coming across as losers. The only thing they have is passion for lib spin.

Why "ought" they have been more forthcoming? Most of the world is anti-American; why lay that aside simply because one of our cities is underwater? My attitude towards them is the same as Giuliani's when he handed that Saudi cocksucker's check back to him.
You know what the reductio ad absurdum of your argument is? This.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that she has contacted U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and advised him that Canada stands ready
to provide assistance if needed. In addition, the Minister of Health, Ujjal Dosanjh, has directed the Public Health Agency of Canada to contact the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services and offer any assistance that may be helpful, such as emergency medical supplies contained in the National Emergency Stockpile System.
And those Mafia-Commies in Russia:
An adviser to the Russian emergency situations minister, Viktor Beltsov has said two Ilyushin-76TD transport planes are ready to leave the Ramenskoye airdrome any time. They carry rescue workers, light helicopters and other equipment essential to effective operation in disaster areas.
Hell, even that evil Commie Chavez offers help:
Chavez said that not only is his government interested in initiating this program for low-income heating oil, but would also be willing to help provide aid for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which is devastating the coast of Louisiana these days. Chavez mentioned that the Venezuelan military has a special humanitarian assistance unit that could carry out rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the tsunami victims remember that the help we gave:
"At that time America helped us a lot, and they were genuine too," said Reza Saputra, a 19-year-old student. "One of their helicopters even crashed here."

We wouldn't need their help even if they didn't kick us in the shins every chance they get.
Even other countries that are pro-America- what exactly can they do that we can't do for ourselves? Or did you just want the empty gesture for the sake of appearances?

This kind of made me smile sadly - I mean, yeah flooding is not a big issue in modern day Israel, but still, there is some historical experience with floods and other watery phenomena - think the Flood and the Red Sea.
Too true about the collapsing buildings part.
