What If A Major Party Candidate For The Senate Held An Event And Only One Person Showed Up? Ask Al Franken, He Knows.
— DrewM

This is probably bigger than his Air America audience was but still, it can't be a good sign for a campaign.

There’s an old saying in politics that elections are won or lost one vote at a time

On Friday, DFL-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken demonstrated how true that saying can be, when a roundtable on veterans issues at Brigitte’s Cafe his campaign scheduled drew only one participant.

Josh John, a St. Cloud resident who said he served in the Navy from 2000-04, had Franken to himself for an hour as he described difficulties he faced returning from his tour of duty and the help he received from his Veterans Services Office and the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.

I think the real victim here is Mr. John. The poor guy wound up spending an hour talking to Al Franken. Somehow I doubt even the most rigorous military training can prepare you for something as horrifying as that. The bastards being held at Gitmo aren't even subjected to such torture.

1 As much of a shithead as I think Franken is, at least he had enough class to stick around and talk to the guy.  That actually is surprising to me.

3 Finally, Franken has done something funny.

4 This is funnier than anything Franken ever wrote, AND he's the butt of the joke.

So I guess this means we're entering the Josh John decade. As the campaign progresses, I think we need to focus on what's best for me, Josh John.

6 Give the people what they want and they'll show up.  Give them Al Franken, and they won't.

7 I'm sure they'll start using a video of this at SERE school in the future.  Personally, I think I'd rather take a bit of waterboarding before having to listen to Al Franken for an hour!

Oh yeah?  Well, you're a big fat lying liar doodyhead!

(God, I'm such a cutting-edge political satirist.)

9 Sounds like a great premise for a Saturday Night Live sketch.

So, did they take up an entire table or did they just sit at the bar?

That wasn't a round table discussion, it was more like a casual chat.

11 I had no idea things were so desperate for Al. If he hadn't been such an asshole these past 30 years, I might have some sympathy for him.

12 Wow, I'm so glad to hear about this.  For awhile, I was really quite worried that this unhinged cocksucker was actually going to be elected to the Senate by those Minneapolis Moonbat.

On the plus side, Franken's finally providing some comedy after 30+ years as a "comedian."

13 I don't know Drew, Franken was a writer at SNL from the very first show. If he has some good stories about those legendary aftershow cast parties (Belushi on coke benders, who screwed who, how big a dick Chevy Chase was) then an hour wouldn't be long enough. However, should he start talking about that whole politics thing...

15 Hmmmm.

I'd rather be waterboarded.

Ummmmm.  It occurs to me that the Bush administration has this thing all wrong.  Let's not *waterboard* terrorists.  Let's use BEER!!

Who the fuck on Earth could possibly object to Beerboarding someone?

Fuck!  They'll be doing in college in an hour after that's announced.

And Guantanamo?  Sure as shit a tourist mecca.

16 For someone who can actually earn money as a comedian, Franken is, remarkably, quite a humorless dickhole. In fact, he seems to have the all the sense of humor of a low-level North Korean bureaucrat.

On the other hand, he's been to Iraq more than once to entertain the troops, so he's not a complete waste of skin.

17 Hey memo...beer board me all you want, I'll never talk!

18 "What If A Major Party Candidate For The Senate Held An Event And Only One Person Showed Up?"

Trick question, right?

I'd say the event had two people too many.

So, what'd I win?

20 They seem a perfect couple.  A lazy welfare seeking idiot who can't take anything like a man and a commie senate candidate.

13 - Franken was a writer at SNL from the very first show

Actually, the cast and crew just used him as a drug mule. He'd go buy the drugs for the cast that, you know, actually had talent? Who cares if Al Frank-fuck gets arrested? But John, Dan, Chevy or Gilda or even Eddie gets arrested? That's bad news!

After a few years, they felt sorry for him and let him do a skit or two. He sucked, but he'd still go mule for the real stars.

Yeah I was horrified that he'd get elected in Scandi-sota, just south of the 49th y'all! Too close to home for comfort. Bad enough we elect the NDP here, but jeez! Franken? Actually elected? For sure the third sign of the apocalypse.

The scoop - they use anti allergic fine fabrics and super soft materials like. For greater comfort, guests are offered x cm beds, anti allergic mattresses and as a matter of course, it offers anti allergic mattresses and anti. Thank :-) Richard from Tonga.
