WaPo: Obama's record "tissue thin" and "troubling"
— Purple Avenger

Ouch. This going to rankle the Obama bots considerably.

...Still, the record now, while tissue thin, is troubling...

1 What a racist thing for the WaPo to say.

Posted by: DSkinner at August 02, 2008 10:17 AM (TOaf/)

2 How dare you criticize him, WAPO!  Don't you know he is THE ONE?

Posted by: Kaitian at August 02, 2008 10:19 AM (on8IE)

3 What!? How dare Cohen question the OUTSTANDING record of the Chosen One. Why, He single handedly, uh. ah.....and, oh yeah, he, ah.....and there was.....not to mention.....and who could ever forget.....and by the way, he's black! So there! Cohen. Hmmmm....sounds Jooish to me. Racist!

4 Ignore the video, the lyrics is what it's about:

5 And he won't even debate McCain before the convention, as I'm surprised to see Yahoo news is running as its top story right now.

6 Old!

Posted by: Dudley Smith at August 02, 2008 10:26 AM (uVCZA)

7 A surprisingly fair assessment given the source. He'll still vote for Obama even though he's not sure why and a tingling feeling that he's about to make a huge mistake.

Posted by: CozMark at August 02, 2008 10:26 AM (GX4F0)

8 yeah but he spends more time talking about what a bastard McCain is than about Obama's ill qualifications and notes he still will vote for Obama.

Fucking Old!

We have standards here, Dudley old boy.

Well-played, #10, well-played indeed.

One has to get up pretty damned early in the afternoon to beat you to the Val-U-Rite stash.

12 Wow, I'd never had guessed this was written by Richard Cohen if I hadn't seen his name on it--Obama, you have a problem! (and I love it!)

Posted by: ECM at August 02, 2008 11:17 AM (q3V+C)

13 Richard Cohen? Ah.... Hillary's support is starting to show. Her people on the left are just attempting to show Obama where his weak points are so he can move forward more gracefully, if less successfully. See you in '12 or Denver.

Posted by: Potosi Joel at August 02, 2008 11:47 AM (TPRbZ)

14 So who's left that's 100% in the tank for Ohbummer:  Herbert, Rich, Overbite, the Tingler and the staff of the Today show?  What a crew of mensas.

Posted by: Captain Hate at August 02, 2008 11:48 AM (eP9wS)

15 This is crazy. Didn't WaPo get the memo? Obama is The Hopey McChange We've Been Waiting For, and McCain collaborated with the NVA and passes time on the Straight Talk Express by drowning kittens in a bucket.

Cohen writes

I know that Barack Obama is a near-perfect political package. I'm still not sure, though, what's in it.

There NOTHING in it, motherfucker! Flush out your headgear!

17 baroque obozo tissue thin record, not paper thin, but tissue thin...

Disposable dilettante bandwagon platform
constructed of paper mache
paste, pulp and inflated thin air

1. Charmin, gentle but strong (*sswipe Pelosi)
2. Bounty, the quicker picker upper (MSM)
3. Kleenex, let it out...let it all hang out '70s (Sen./Mrs. Obama)

BARACK OBAMA

20 Is WaPo setting up to endorse McCain? Second, and I believe this a fascinating possibility, is the Post looking at the NYT self-destruct, and making a gambit to become the new 'paper of record?' They're left of center to be sure, but they rarely cross that threshold into 'irresponsible' for lack of a better word. Unlike their brethren in Manhatten.

Posted by: Lee at August 02, 2008 02:48 PM (+kJAy)

21 Rove, you magnificent retard! I want to dip my balls in the WaPo! I already have the CoolWhip, let's play uppers and downers, Cohen.

Posted by: Hillary Clinton at August 02, 2008 03:07 PM (N8eC4)

22 Technical note:
While it *is* troubling that a guy like Cohen would say this, you really shouldn't cite it as "The Washington Post says Obama's record is thin" or whatever.  Cohen's just an op-ed columnist, who technically speaks for the Washington Post just as much as fellow op-ed writer Charles Krauthammer does, which is to say not at all....

It looks a little amateurish to just label the blog piece "WaPo".

24 Posted by: David C at August 02, 2008 08:24 PM (iuKoW) I found a link that will highlight the policy differences we've seen between Krauthammer and Post: http://www.townhall.com/columnists/charleskrauthammer/archive.shtml In lieu of another link I've appended a list of all the major policy differences between the WaPo Editors and Cohen.

#20 hey, where's the second list, dude?  No really, where is it?  Oh for fuck's sake, there must be something on the list, right?

This rankles no one. The Obambots love him precisely because his resume is paper thin. They think it makes him mysterious or something. The have watched too many movies where the unknown, downtrodden nobody has a moment of glory.

Except in this case replace glory with "raising taxes" and "rise of the nanny state."

27 Carl Gordon has it. I knew I shouldn't have loaned it out.

I suspect that the reason that BHO’s record is paper-thin is that there are too many of the wrong kind of failures, very few successes, and more than a few unearned rewards.

This article in the NYT suggests that BHO’s years as a Community Organizer were essentially a study in uninspired mediocrity.

I recall reading, somewhere, that the law firm BHO worked for refused to comment on the subject of BHO’s work. I also understand that this is when the Rezko connection started and/or matured.

Most of BHO’s papers from his time in the Illinois state legislature were disposed of (by BHO); the remnants, his voting record, indicates a penchant for voting "present". Did BHO in fact do anything as a state legislator? There is evidence that BHO proposed state legislation, but for others.

Then there are the housing refurbishment projects, many of which went bankrupt, and he seems to be somehow involved. Where did the $43million go?

Then there’s BHO’s time in the US Senate; not even half of one term completed, and he’s running for the Presidency. What significant legislation has he roposed?

I think that the WaPo (could be someone else) lists BHO’s voting record. IIRC, he’s missed 44% of the Senate votes during his term in office.

I think that the shine is fading fast, and many people are starting to ask tough questions.  I think that most of them realize that the answers won't be good to BHO.

Posted by: Arbalest at August 02, 2008 06:03 PM (XUQkf)

29

Now add in the known record of BHO’s personal connections and actions:

- 20 years at TUCC under the tutelage of Wright (and who knows who else)

- Start in politics in the home of one Bill Ayres (Bombthrower - Weathermen)

- Business associates / friends like T. Rezko (a $2.6million house for $1.6 million)

- The contents, verbatim, of his book "Dreams . . .".  Remind me, who abandoned him and who raised him?

- Which came first: the grant to the hospital where Michelle works, or Michelle’s fabulous (and presumably well-deserved due to hard work) 190% (?) pay raise?  Remind me; what particularly importand, difficult and hard-to-fill senior executive job does she do?

All old news, but put enough of the pieces of the puzzle together and the picture looks bad.

Then there’s the race card.  Who played it first?  Who keeps trying to play it by trying to be seen to not play it?

Is the WaPo starting to have suspicions, or am I misreading Cohen’s writing?

But hey, he wears tight slacks while cruising for foxes, so that the protruding bulge will be more easily noticed by the foxes.

Plus, he's black!

that's all anybody needs to vote for the Swingman.

'Tissue thin?'  I do not have a thin skin. It's you paleocon knuckledragging  white rascists that keep bringing up the skin thing.

33 Don't you bastids get it?

The "One", by definition, must have a tissue-thin record.  It's fundamental.

God.  Wake up.

34 Shorter Cohen: I'm so deep in the tank for Obama, no combination of facts will deter my devotion.

Hey look - it rankled one already!

36 "Tissue then?"  To get a thinner resume you have to go back to Lar "America First" Daly.  Serially.

Even when you duly note the fact that Cohen was not writing an official WaPo editorial, it apparently gives him (like most libs) the willies to vote against a black guy, whatever the reason. I think Dickey was trying to point out that, even when he factors in the "skin" thing, Barry is still mighty weak gruel.

Which he is, of course.
