— Ace To Hell with him.
He continues claiming that somehow he was making the joke that if kids don't study hard, they're doomed to grow up to become President of the United States.
He's definitely taking a page from the netroots with his tough, strong (crazy) talk.
Update: In case anyone's keeping track of educational credentials, both Kerry and Bush attended Ivy League Yale, and Bush edged Kerry on grades.
Update: Michelle Malkin catches moonbat AP reporter Jennifer Loven, wife of Democratic operative, spinning to make Kerry's "I was trying to scare kids into studying lest they become President" claim by Dowdifying his remarks to make a reference to Bush immediately poceed his denigration of his fellow soldiers not-quite-our-class-dear social inferiors.
Remember When I Said Kerry's Ludicrous Denial Would Keep The Story Alive? I was wrong.
I forgot the MSM had a terrific option when it comes to stories that can't be spun to the Democrats' advantage -- embargo them entirely.

In Georgia today:
....I cannot tell you how proud I am to be the Commander-in-Chief of such incredibly brave men and women who have volunteered to wear the uniform of the United States. And even in the midst of a heated campaign season, there are still some things we should all be able to agree on – and one of the most important is that every one of our troops deserves our gratitude – and respect. Yesterday Democrat Senator John Kerry was speaking to a group of young people in California, and gave them this advice, quote: “You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t you get stuck in Iraq.”
The Senator’s suggestion that the men and women of our military are somehow uneducated is insulting and shameful. Our troops did not enlist because they did not study hard in school or do their homework. The men and women who serve in our all-volunteer Armed Forces are plenty smart and are serving because they are patriots – and Senator Kerry owes them an apology.
Whatever party you belong to, whatever you think about the war in Iraq, we should all agree that our troops deserve our unwavering support. And when it comes to supporting our men and women in uniform, I don’t have any doubt where Mac Collins is going to land. He is a strong supporter of the military. And he knows what I know: Any time you have American troops in harm’s way, they have the right to expect the full support of the American government.

The Honorable John F. Kerry
United States Senator
304 Senate Russell Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear John:
I was dismayed to hear your recent comments about our military men and women in Iraq, suggesting that they are stuck there because they're uneducated, perhaps because they didn't work hard at their studies. I write to demand an immediate apology from you in light of those comments.
On October 30, 2006 at an appearance in California on behalf of Phil Angelides’ Governor Campaign, your comments were truly despicable and offensive. It's a slap in the face of all of our intelligent, dedicated, brave men and women in the military. Of course, there are many of these from Louisiana, whom I have the honor to represent. I take particular offense on behalf of them.
I interact with our fine military regularly, particularly those from Louisiana. I'm always struck by their courage, dedication, AND intelligence. It's an objective fact that our military today is better educated and trained than ever before. In light of this obvious reality, your comments suggest that either you don't interact with today's military in any significant way or, even more troubling; you have a basic and deep-seated contempt for them.
They aren't stupid, uneducated, or lazy. They're heroes. And they deserve your immediate apology.
Sincerely,
David Vitter
United States Senator

After 30 seconds of that I wanted to set myself on fire and jump in a pool of gasoline as I figured it was slightly less painful than listening to him speak.
My bullshit meter broke 2 seconds into that rediculous rant.
He let the cow out of the barn yesterday. It ain't comin back.
Karl Rove must be beside himself today. Even the evil genious couldn't have dreamed up a better scenario.
As far as I can tell, NOONE on the left has come to his defense today.

Don't underestimate Darth Rove. Kerry is easily controllable so who's to say this ISN'T part of Rove's master plan?
It's genius. GENIUS!

If the Dems had come up with anything but egotistical self deluded windbags they could have won either of the last two Presidential elections.
(I hope they're not looking.)

Like him or not, when McCain called for an apology from Kerry, he put Kerry in a no-win situation. It's really already too late to apologize, but McCain's demand for an apology means that the story won't just go away in a day or so. It will fester like a wound on the Democrats, as all candidates are forced to either back up Kerry's lame denial or refute Kerry and support the troops. If even one Dem in a close race does this, it makes it harder for the next person to pretend that Kerry wasn't insulting the troops with his remarks.
At the least, the gaffe takes Democrats off message at the worst possible moment, when the 90% of the voting public who are not political junkies are starting to pay attention.

This from the man who trashed Rove and Libby for over a year, beat the macaca crap for weeks and was the most vocal voice saying the RNC Harold Ford ad was flat out racist. Why does anyone bitch about Fox when MSNBC is so blatant about their bias.

Yeah, but - he's Kerry. The difference between Kerry outright lying, and Kerry being too much of an arrogant prick to admit he screwed up, is small.
I'll put it to you this way: let's imagine, just for the sake of argument, that it *was* intended to be a joke about Bush (and crew) being dumb, lazy, whatever.
How would you expect him to have acted, differently than how he has acted? (Keeping in mind that this is KERRY we're talking about, not an actually talented speaker, good politician, non-asshole, etc.)
Posted by: Knemon at October 31, 2006 01:44 PM (k4zdv)
Really?
I thought the opposite.
He was just responding to Gibson and enjoying the moment. I liked it -- I liked it a lot.
No reason for him to say too much today. Kerry did his work for him.

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
Wicked & Knemon, I don't see how you can say this was a joke about the Pesident gone wrong. The "study hard & do your homework" line doesn't wash because they are both pretty much equally educated (with Bush earning the higher grades I understand), the work hard line doesn't apply because if anyone has been more sucessful in their careers it would have to be the President (Kerry's only accomplishments that I'm aware of are being elected the the Senate & marrying a rich widow)
This was clearly a (if I may borrow a phrase) "Textbook" Democrat attempt to stir up class envy & hatred.
Posted by: CAD Daddy at October 31, 2006 01:47 PM (U6x6j)
But it wasn't meant as a comparison of Bush and Kerry - it was just another variation on the endlessly hilarious "Bush is a retard" theme.
Hell, I don't know what he meant - maybe he did mean it the way everyone's taking it - but (and I never thought I'd say this), even Kerry isn't THAT stupid.
Posted by: Knemon at October 31, 2006 01:58 PM (k4zdv)
What I think some people are missing is that even if the word "us" had been said, Kerry gravely insulted the president of the United States.
Who isn't running for anything.
Who has a BA and an MBA.
AND
Being educated doesn't make one intellgent, just as being uneducation doesn't mean a person is stupid.
I have utter contempt for Sen. Kerry.
Posted by: goddessoftheclassroom at October 31, 2006 01:59 PM (/RCvK)
I'm not trying to say that Kerry meant to say that our troops in Iraq are lazy stupid & uneducated. But it was not a Bush joke gone wrong. It was a typical Deocratic class envy thing gone wrong.

The other hilarious part is that his explanation would probably be given the benefit of the doubt if he didn't already have a history of trashing the military for his own political gain.
I love how he came roaring out in full attack mode, all full of piss and vinegar and hardassed catch phrases. Kerry is a fucking pussy. Always has been, always will be. The whole toughguy routine is an overcompensation for this flaw.
Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men…”
Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Absolutely. And Sir John of Douche Kingdom isn't fooling anyone. He's an effete, narcissistic, self-important lightweight, and it's hopelessly obvious five minutes after he starts talking. John Kerry is the fucking embodiment of all that's wrong with American politics; he's undeserved entitlement coupled with crass opportunism.
