— Ace Quagmire One;
I didn't bother posting on this, of course, because I didn't see the point. The MSM is providing virtually wall-to-wall coverage of Al Qaeda's very bad two weeks; what's the point of bloggers merely echoing what the MSM is shouting from the rooftops?

For the umpteenth time - he's most likely in Pakistan. In the mountains. Turns out, liberal ignorance notwithstanding, our troops are not allowed to operate in Pakistan. The conflicted and not terribly effective Pakistani government is responsible for pursuing Osama in the mountains.
So the real question is, where's the liberal comprehension of military and political reality? At least we know where the liberal snark is.

Over and over again we've had liberal trolls show up here pretending to be soldiers when they're not. Personally, I think it's kinduv funny, actually, but most people find it annoying, especially those who are or were in the armed forces. (Not me; I'm a pussy chicken-hawk.) The point is, it's a common occurence here.
I believe that you were in the armed forces, but what exactly do you expect to happen as a result of writing that? Does not putting much stock in what some random person types on the internet really count as a measure of support for our troops?
This is a fun site if you stick around, but don't start questioning our patriotism just because some of us are a little skeptical of random ASCII characters out of the ether, especially when there's been such a history of fraud.

"You came in here sounding like a troll (i.e. snarky throw-away comment)"
Sandy - actually, I was trying to make a point. I think it's time we nab OBL. Congrats to the guys for nabbing these other two pricks that I've never heard of, but I am growing tired of hearing the President and many of his supporters trying to say "Osama isn't important anymore".
I left my family to voluntarily deploy in hopes that I could help in some small way to capture or KILL this bastard after 9/11, but now he's "not important" anymore. BULLSHIT! He's important to ME. I'll NEVER forget what he orchestrated, and it almost seems TREASONOUS to me that people would just play it off like "We'll get him when/if we get him." Instead, we've got our troops with their hands tied behind their damned backs in Iraq as sitting ducks. Frankly, it's PISSING ME OFF.
I saw the value of toppling Saddam, for the fact that he had too many leaders on his payroll (never really bought the WMD's bullcrap), but nobody said we were going to occupy Iraq and dress our troops up for war, but leave them like sitting ducks to be killed.
And as for this site, I poke my head in here when I can, and it's got it's moments - both good ones and bad ones. I wouldn't come back if it wasn't entertaining every so often.
"... and then demanded to be respected because you say you're in the military."

So your plan is to invade Pakistan? Our ally? Or perhaps to launch a remote strike like we did a couple of months ago? [There's a liberal commenter over at RightWingSparkle's grousing about that this very day.]
I'm really tired of the petulant "just find him" crowd, who seem to believe that by just wanting it badly enough, he'll be captured. If he's beyond our reach, which he is, the mature approach is to try to render him ineffective. Which we've been trying to do, with pretty fair success. Saying that he doesn't matter means that he's no longer the huge player in Al Qaeda that he was, not that he's not as guilty as ever for his despicable crimes.
Posted by: geoff at May 30, 2006 01:07 PM (nH1Ad)
Let me get this straight: You pop in here and make a trollishly snide comment that, when taken at face value, is a slap to our troops serving in Iraq. When people take exception to your snide remark, you then assert that you were just kidding around, afterwhich you smugly inform the group that of course you are happy that these thugs were captured, but you were making a point with your original comment.
Such a teachable moment for us all. You must be so proud of your sophistry. I mean, look, you even got me to attack a veteran like yourself! What a big moment!
Allow me to answer your question: Yes, I support our military men and women, both conservative and liberal. What I don't and won't support is the snarky bullshit you originally posted in this thread because it denigrates the effort of every person currently serving in our military.
I respect and thank you for your service, but I won't cede you the moral high ground because of it, nor will it be sufficient to earn my overall personal respect.
If you want to make some kind of point, then have the courtesy to say directly what it is you intend that we hear. Otherwise, kindly fuck right off. I've got friends who are still serving over there in Iraq and don't have the inclination to play rhetorical games on the matter.

How about we lose the "blame Bush" crap because we can't locate one guy who is hiding in territory we are prohibited from entering which also happens to be under enemy control. "You're obviously much sharper then all your liberal friends who REALLY believed it as early as 1998. Of course, when they contracted BDS their memories went blank and now they talk just like you. Huh."
Two things.
First, to clarify, I DID think Saddam had WMD's, I just never thought he intended to use them against us preemptively. I thought it was rhetoric, just like I mostly think about this stuff with Iran right now. I thought then, and I still think now, that the REAL reason for going in was because we had a third world extremist pulling the marionette strings an alarming number of western leaders.
Second, I'll repeat - I may be "Liberal" but I'm not a Democrat. Most of my "buddies" are also independents (small "I"). The Democratic Party has turned it's back upon "Red State" liberals at this time (guess we embarrass them), so until they claim us, I'm not claiming them either.

Posted by: Gun Toting Liberal at May 30, 2006 02:04 PM (OKBoD)
It doesn't matter if Saddam would have used them preemptively. It matters that he would gladly give them to AQ or anybody else who could use them without the finger being pointed at Iraq. My concern with Iran is exactly the same. I don't worry about them launching, I worry about them giving the f'ing things to people who have no such qualms.
"Second"
I didn't say 'your democrat friends', I said 'your liberal friends'. You identify yourself as liberal. If you don't like being called one change your nic. Maybe something like Gun Toting I Can't Make a Decision

I can't think of one American, save for a few of the nuts in ANSWER or one of the sister organizations, who wouldn't want OBL captured and punished and nobody more than Bush. Even if you look at it from a totally political approach, Bush stands to gain more from the capture of OBL than any person on the planet.
Posted by: JackStraw at May 30, 2006 02:19 PM (rnOZq)
Who, or what, was Randall Flagg?
I always thought that Stephen King modelled him on the biblical Nephilim. Like, in the opening chapters of the Book of Job, we're told that Satan and the "sons of man" approach God (concerning Job) after walking "to and fro" upon the earth, and "up and down." Or something like that. And son's of man is a rough translation of "Nephilim."

But is that what he meant? We've got something like 10,000 troops deployed in Afghanistan trying to flush out Taliban and Al Qaeda members. This is noteworthy because their mission is *not* to stabilize Afghanistan, like the UN forces are supposed to do (and I believe the other US forces). They are trying to get a lead on Osama's whereabouts, while continuing to pressure the radical Islamists and hinder their attempts to reestablish their power base.
I don't regard the deployment of 10,000 troops as an expression of disinterest in capturing Osama.

Sorry, but I don't know it. It struck my ears the way I heard it, and the way I expressed it here. Call it "blind tunnel vision" if you want, but yes, bringing OBL to justice is exactly what I want to see. I'm not a big fan of these "Wars" on "Terr'r", "Drugs", "Porn", and all of these other unwinnable, expensive (and perhaps even unconstitutional in many cases) "Wars". I'm more for making that bastard PAY for what he did, and yes, the sooner the better.

Me, I'm sticking with the original explanation concerning the Nephilim: they were the spawn of demonic creatures who had mated with human women. Okay, I know, that's magical thinking. But it shore [sic] is colorful!
Sandy: Neanderthals? Interesting. Possible. That was Crichton's explanation for the enemy in "Eaters of the Dead." Remember, in the 13th Warrior (the movie based on that novel--it was great!) the enemy warriors had unnatural upper body strength, like Neanderthals probably had, that enabled them to twist off the heads of their enemies by brute force. And they used atlatls not bows, which Neanderthals also used, because they had not achieved archery technology.
Concerning GTL: You know how some guys say they aren't gay and really believe but all their friends recognize that's he's gay but realize he just doesn't know it yet? That's kind of the deal with GTL: he's a conservative but just doesn't know it yet. What he needs is a few months in one of our conservative Cool Hand Luke "re-education" camps to get his mind right. You know, time spent on a road gang with Dragline, Babba-Loo-Guts and the rest of the gang, under the kindly supervision of Boss Godfrey ("The Man With No Eyes") should get him turned around real fast.

I'm a religion-type person because it seems to me that atheism is unreasonable, maybe irrational. That is, it seems more logical to me to be a believer than an atheist. Or something like that. I'm not saying I'm right. I'm not saying that atheists are wrong. I'm just saying what gets me through the night, what floats my boat--religion works for me. If it doesn't work for others, no worries. Certainly I'm not a hellfire-and-damnation type. Not at all. Heck, most of my friends are either atheists or very close to it. No big deal either way. King is a hack, you think he follows a SINGLE rule of his own plot development? King only survives because he sucks LESS than people who try to mimic him.
FUCKER, his best shit is completely ignored, like "The Long Walk" ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! and "Running Man" but ask King about his greatest accomplishments? and he will say the very books that made him a near quitillionaire.
OH! and "thinner" I loved thinner.
But all of those books were written when he couldn't hier a stripper to fuck his wife so he could feel massive each night, cuz he was broke.
"honey you are so HOT!" (after the stripper just pulled his cock from her poot) "Baby? your book is just so. . . SENSUAL!" note his books got more sexified after the bachs, when in fact, he was just dipping his little dick into sloppy seconds.
OH!, OH! OH! OH! OH! OH KAY! sorry.
I don't have a publishing contract, and I don't have the small bit of discipline king has, but king has gotten worse everyday because he realized he would NEVER be edited.
I was over the top, but REALLY!?
Anyways, EVERYONE creates a bogeyman, 2 of the most popular fantasy novel series floating around right now have bogeymen.
Robert Jordan has his "moridin" and George R.R. Martin isn't buiding up a bogey man, rather he is building up BOTH a bogeyman and a saviour at the same time.
Anyone who doesn't think that Jon Snow is NOT the heir of the Targaryens, born of whatsisfaces sister, is stupid. and anyone who doesn't think that daenaris isn't directly related to Snow, and destined to be the Bride of her relation as a Targaryen, is tarded, EVEN MORE SO, anyone who doesn't think that Bran al "whatever" isn't the re-incarnation of "Bran the Builder" really has to introduce themselves to Poe, Shakespeare, lovecraft and every other author who creates a "forshadowing" plot point.
Sorry, I'm pissed that George can't release all his books at once. Robert Jordan is boring me, cuz he really hasn't written a book in 4 8 years. I LOVE Herbert though. He wrote them all within. . . Well fuck me. . . .4 years.
