That's because so many of us have lost family members to the Chunky Soup death machine.

 

9 These are so disappointing.  Blatantly bogus.  Double exposures (including one which just HAD to be staged), blurry images of God-knows-what, stains on the negatives, or just taking the photographer's word that there wasn't anyone there.  And isn't it interesting how all of these "classic" pictures date from the early days of photography, before automatic cameras or digital pictures?

On top of it all, it doesn't make sense.  Light is light.  Our eyes perceive light and cameras detect light.  Anything a camera can see, the photographer can see.  How could a ghost affect the film and not the eye?  Now, a truly "psychic" phenomenon might be visible to the photographer's mind but not show up on film . . . but then they wouldn't be able to take their bogus photos of it.

The biggest flaw with all "paranormal" phenomena -- ghosts, aliens, whatever -- is that they're created by stupid dishonest people to fool stupid crazy people.  The aliens don't look like what a scientist of a science fiction writer would imagine, they look like what a stupid person would come up with after watching old Twilight Zone episodes.  The ghosts look like a stupid person's idea of a ghost costume; I'd expect something genuinely supernatural to look genuinely amazing.  Even Bigfoot is pretty damned stupid when you think of it -- basically a stupid person's idea of a caveman costume, disguised with bad photography because stupid people can't make convincing-looking costumes.

Someday, an actual clever person will invent one of these frauds; until then I'm going to be disappointed.
