The Morning Rant
— Open Blogger

talking ape.jpg
"So the zoo sends Sam the vet around once a month to check me out. He's a great guy. 'How's it going, GP?', he'll say, 'Oh, you know, same old same old, Dr. Sam', I'll tell him. Or, 'Hey Doc, I've got this scaly patch on my right butt you might want too look at.' But if I run into him at a cocktail party, I'll say, 'Hey, Sammy, how's it going?' Sam's a low-key guy, he doesn't stand on ceremony. He's 'Dr. Sam' when he's exercising his professional capacity as my vetinarian, and 'Sammy' when we're pounding down brewskis at a local tavern. And everything's cool. Sammy can tell the difference between the personal and the professional. So I don't get these elitist ass clowns who insist on being called "Doctor" no matter who they're talking to or what the situation is. Do they think that graduating from med school confers some kind of title of nobility? And not only the medical doctors, then there's the Ph.D graduates who prance around wearing their 'Dr' diploma like an Easter hat, insisting that everyone call them 'Doctor'. You know, you WILL respect my authority! Give me a break. If Julius Erving went around insisting that everyone call him 'Dr. J', that would be more credible than most of these smug pr*cks who think that writing words on a piece of paper is an awesome achievement."

"...Then They Walk Around In Its Skin And Demand Respect":

unearned.jpg

I glanced at her Twitter profile, not sure what she is a "Dr" of. But it's usually the least accomplished who make the biggest fuss over titles, degrees, and diplomas.

12 Ugh. My dad was a medical doctor - a great doctor - and *never* used "Dr." title outside of work. Never. I think anyone who gets huffy about that tile outside of work is an insecure jerk. And while we're talking about this, I do not like politicians that continue to referred to their position after leaving office, such as Governor Mitt Romney. He's not governor anymore - stop calling him that.

14 The only reason to refer to someone with an M.D. as "Doctor" is to know who to go to if you need to know "Is there doctor in the house?". Non medical doctorates (Ph.D's and J.D.'s) are not used unless they're in the classroom or a conference discussing their subject matter.

107 Some people insist on giving the title. Calling a Senator a Senator, a Judge a Judge ... ... but then again, some people get a thrill down their leg by giving submission. They really enjoy the process of Obedience. Personally - I don't think Free Men should throw that shit around like that. But - that's just me.

188 my fish and I get along ... I gave them a pond, sometimes I like to throw them some food ... and sometimes I hook em, clean em, cook em, eat em.  Kinda the same deal with the chickens.

Is that a relationship?  There is a sort of bonding with hunters and their prey, though it is mostly a one way deal ... the hunter admires then kills and eats.  But there is a certain awe and respect for God and Nature acquired, with man at the top of the food chain (until the Gaia/PETA worshipers come along).

Domestic livestock mostly has a pretty good life, till the bolt to the head ends things quickly.  The idea that "wild and free" animals have any notion of liberty is mostly projection.  Many starve or end up tortured by some "fellow wild and free" predator that eats them alive.  And fights over territory are constant.

Animals don't all just get along like in some fairy tale, especially when hungry.  It is like the "noble savage" that Columbus found in the Indies (?), where they were so noble and advanced, they kept fellow citizens in cages and ate them like other livestock.  (iirc)

Western Civilization is not the norm ... and wild animals are working to destroy it.

As I said, it could only take place in a professional setting where these distinctions matter--and usually then it's in the printed program only.

218 Going back to the last thread, I am actually somewhat puzzled/disappointed that the admin. does not appear to be applying much more serious bilateral pressure on Mexico over their hostile acts and violation of human trafficking conventions. Denial of visa services/admissions for a few countries was threatened to force them to receive deported citizens back from the US - I believe that worked, and all the countries folded. Trump or someone else at one point mentioned that NAFTA could not be shielded from such extreme and hostile actions as Mexico's abetting the horrible economic migrant flow from central America. But not aware that the US is (yet) using these sticks on this issue, which it should be. Sad!

The dissertation is supposed to be a piece of actual research. Now ... this basic requirement has been watered down for many STEM Ph.D.s and is totally laughable for whole fields that have no part being recognized by academia, to begin with, but the basic idea of a Ph.D. is that the person is a researcher, not just a knowledgeable practitioner. I'm not sure what so many of you have against Ph.D.s. Just because there are lots of fake Ph.D.s out there doesn't take away from the importance of real Ph.D.s, who are traditionally called "Doctor" in formal settings.

When that runs out, take over a nearby country and do the same. Oh, and lots of slave migrant labor. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at June 22, 2018 11:54 AM (39g3+) That is also the interest based economic model. You take over a country's currency production, sell it back to them at interest, bankrupt the country, then move on to virgin economies. It also, works within a country as well. Bankrupt White families. Give blacks money at interest, since they have no debt. That only takes a few minutes to do that, so you import a bunch of debt-free Mexicans. Bankrupt them, then import some Muslim invaders. Lather, rinse, repeat.

388 I have a PhD but never made a big deal about it. However, one of my former bosses used to always make cracks about PhDs, how they're not so smart, etc. I never said anything back, until one day I told him, actually you're right. Getting a PhD is easy. I got one with almost no effort at all. I think everyone should get one. He made no more cracks, but I was always on his shit list after that.

389 I have a PhD (don't judge). What the degree actually confers is that one is trained to add to the knowledge base within a discipline. In my case, this involved a heavy dose of statistics and research methodology. One might be brilliant and have lots of interesting ideas, but actually designing experiments to test hypotheses is difficult, often tedious work. We are currently overrun by bad science across numerous fields, and academia is overrun by new fields where there is no science at all. In addition to her horrific grammatical error, Fern is a self-confessed intellectual fraud because she wants to be an expert in multiple areas. It doesn't work like that. To be an expert in a field requires years of study. You don't get to apply your PhD in psychology to architecture or bridge design.

She will be honored as "Secretary" Clinton for the rest of her measly existence. Doesn't matter if you have undergrad or grad degrees in other subjects. And the freaking cost of the MEd is off putting. Once teachers with BEd's start teaching, schools will pay for them to get a Master's Degree, so they can get federal funds for administration- the school pays for the Masters, and gets that amount for the school budget. It's an interesting racket.

Here's the Abstract: "The time evolution of the fluorescence from a naphthalene "guest" and a betamethylnaphthalene "sensor" in a C(10)D( "host" was measured at 1.8 and 4.2 K. A rigorous heterogeneous kinetic model is used to fit the data, based on quasi-coherent exciton motion, giving a mean-free-path of >= 102 lattice spacings for pure naphthalene."

646 Subject: proposal Date: Fri, 22 June 2018 From: "MAJ. TMOTHY BANYA" To:XXX I am Maj. Timothy Banya, the commander and head of the Secret Unit in charge of Diamond dealing for the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) of Sierra-Leone. I was working directly with the former Rebel Leader Foday Sankoh who is languishing in government custody. They want to prosecute him for illegal diamond dealing and the killings of 21 people during a public demonstration outside his home in May this year, which I would be prosecuted alongside. The RUF is now headed by Gen. Issa Sessey who is determined in bringing peace to Sierra Leone, he signed cease- fire agreement with the government on Friday 10th Nov., 2000 and instructed us that peace must returned to our fatherland after nine-years conflict, pledging to allow U.N. troops unhindered access throughout the Sierra-Leone. My fear is that the government will try most of us and all our assets would be confiscated why all traceable accounts to our name and families would also be frozen. In view of this development, I am trapped with large quantity of diamond and some million of United States dollars that is in cash with my Wife who dose not have the know-how to launder this money without any trace to our name and how to dispose these unpolished diamonds accordingly. My situation is very desperate, as I cannot desert my profession at this point in my life with all that I have acquired. If you can assist me to legitimize these funds by paying into your designated account, I am ready to concede some percentage for your logistic and material involvement. Contact me for more details. Yours faithfully. Maj. Timothy Banya

Our son's fifth grade teacher in Chicagoland, quit giving out math grades because Self Esteem.  My husband asked her, "If you WERE grading, what grade would you give our son?  Because he cannot understand long division."

Her reply:  "He'd have a solid B+ at least.  And long division isn't important because we have calculators."

We sat slack-jawed and she finished with, "I really am so sick and tired of teaching."

And that right there convinced us our son would never set foot in another public school.

The question isn't about the police tracking someone for years and years but about their access to historic GPS data. The problem is not with the police, in this case, though, but with the service providers who should demand warrants from the police before releasing the data. It is wrong to demand that the police must have warrants for this data to start. The data is property of the providers and it is their responsibility to handle it properly. People should know which providers will puke up everything for any request (from cops or others) and which will actually safeguard their data. 689 so far it hasn't been abused , but I think it's a slippery slope and want them gone. I agree, its not that the idea couldn't be used properly, its that you cannot trust authority with this kind of thing. 694 People should know which providers will puke up everything for any request (from cops or others) and which will actually safeguard their data. That would make a big difference in many peoples' decision of which providers to use. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair ______________ You know good and well 99.9% of people will not look for this policy when they get cell phone service and the government will bully providers that don't cough it up without a warrant. If the government wants to track people, they can get a warrant. After what we've seen with Trump and the Deep State, why on Earth would you want to give law enforcement a black check? Also, you can make these arguments with your internet provider, why not let law enforcement look at all your browsing activity without a warrant? Every citizen is going to be tracked and monitored if we don't put up some roadblocks.

In fact, three of them explicitly asked us to not address them as 'Doctor.' Each believed it fed pretentiousness, and that attitude had no place in education. Posted by: Ragnarokpaperscissors at June 22, 2018 12:56 PM (puF5F) I view the two titles as interchangeable in the teaching context. 727 IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING STAR TREK WAS DOING DOWN ON THE SURFACE WAS RIGHT UP THIS ACADEMIC'S ALLEY.

For a long time, scholars of Kipling's ballad-style poems presumed that he was aping classical poesy, using English in Latin or Greek forms the way that Edgar Poe did.  They were highly irregular meter and rhyme schemes, but they did repeat.   Within the purview of poems that actually had meter and rhyme, they were incredibly creative.

Then along came a "Victorian cultural historian," and discovered that Kipling frequented the music halls, and used the meter of the pop tunes that cycled through there as the basis for new rhyme schemes.   It changed the understanding of Kipling's writing process, big time.

Now, being good conservatives -- you DO like Kipling, don't you?Are you going to say that the study of that work was a waste of skin and oxygen?

Doesn't matter if you have undergrad or grad degrees in other subjects. And the freaking cost of the MEd is off putting. I actually had a funny experience with a PhD from India. We were at a wedding reception and she wanted to be addressed as Dr and her first name. Then she looked irritated because he said, "You needn't bother calling us doctor." Honey; I'm a call you whatever I feel like. And unless you have something I really really need, I'm not going to give a shit if that offends you.

Frankly, with the way they greased the skids into college for women these days and the courses that they offer, I'm thinking I just may be smarter and at least more self effacing than you.

Let's see those diplomas bitch.

757 Justin Castro. It's not even up for debate at this point. Somebody needs to get a DNA sample from Justin ASAP and run a test.

758 The correct resolution to this specific case is either individual or legislative, not judicial. In the worst case it is to Congress to write a law requiring providers to provide an opt out for customers to safeguard their GPS data. In the worst case. But it isn't a judicial thing. Not to my mind, it's not.

The problem is wire-tapping laws as written involve, you know, actual wires.  Not wireless devices.

759 I glanced at her Twitter profile, not sure what she is a "Dr" of. But it's usually the least accomplished who make the biggest fuss over titles, degrees, and diplomas. Apparently, you haven't dealt with very many Dr's?!!!!!! Try calling one of those boy Dr's, Mr. and see where that gets ya.

765 I believe you will pleased to know that the cover of Fern Riddell's book does not identify her as "Doctor" Fern.

Also?  Its price has been steeply marked down.

766 I think that writing words on a piece of paper could be a very credible achievement. My life would be lessened if I hadn't read Jane Austen or Shakespeare, or even "How To Win Friends and Influence People", for instance, to say nothing of the immeasurable important of the Bible, but the authors of the those works didn't have their doctorates and didn't crow about " I'm Dr. So and so..." In addition, the people I admire who were professors didn't crow about their doctorates either.

767 Dr Fern Riddell's web site:
Dr Fern Riddell is a cultural Historian, and an expert in sex, suffrage and entertainment in the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Yeah, I'm a sexpert too....

768 Okay, well, since I'm the scripting expert, when it comes to Powershell, where I work, just call me "Dr. Powershell." What? No, I feel like I'm an expert, and that my expertise has been hard won. Therefore, I'm definitely an expert. I even have the participation plaque on my wall to prove my expertise. And, back off, dude, right now, unless you want me to go gangsta on your AD!

769 My good friend Melanie is a Doctor of Astrophysics (and a 3rd degree black belt) I call her "Mel." she's cool

770 From Fern Riddell's LinkedIn profile: "I am a Cultural Historian, and an expert in Sex, Suffrage and Entertainment in the Victorian and Edwardian eras - recently completing my PhD at King's College, London." I'll call her doctor if I happen to be discussing the Victorian and Edwardian eras but about everything else, as far as I can tell, she doesn't know jack.

774 Someone once described the Ed.D thusly: It's the yellow caution tape of the academic-credentialing world; when you see it, you can be almost certain that there's a gigantic wreck just beyond.

775 Doctor Fern is fond of Kitty Marion, a bomber, so be advised; it may be less painful to use her title than to pick Riddell shrapnel out of your tissue.

Posted by: Marooned at June 22, 2018 03:22 PM (8hRlF)

776 Someone should tell Fern that not only do we not have titles of nobility here in America, but if we did they wouldn't be given out at universities. What did she learn for that doctorate?
