— Dave in Texas That droning sound you hear off in the distance might be a drone.
A Pakistani military spokesman confirmed an incident had occurred in Waziristan, but said he was unaware of details, though intelligence officials in Wana gave a clearer picture. One official told Reuters the madrasa, or religious school, was a militant base and the owner of the targeted house, a tribesman named Malik Sallat Khan, had ties with the militants.
"The owner of the house and seminary had some links with militants, and the madrasa was not used for education, but as a compound," he said.
UPDATE: Abu Khabab al-Masri, confirmed among those who recently suffered Sudden Entropy Increase, as sherlock puts it.

Uh...yeah.
"The owner of the Mustang Ranch had some links with the sex worker community, and the whorehouse was not used for whoring, but as a ....Kennedy Family Compound."
(OK, the last part's a stretch -- but not by much)

Potosi Joel, you are welcome. But after I hit enter, I realized that "Sudden Entropy Elevation syndrome" would sound even better, no?
And another indicator: rapid cooling to ambient temperature after transition from solid to gaseous state.

It's a race between some weak, inconsequential sound vibes and concussive effects along with shrapnel pretty much traveling above Mach 1. The shrapnel and concussion win. You need a mop to clean up afterwards.
Quite frankly, Taliban and Al Qaeda leaders in Afghanistan and Pakistan have
to be terrified of this weapon. Whoever is targeting them is getting damn good
at it and often. Intelligence has certainly improved a lot.
It's a minor point. I get a raging mating pole at this war porn. It's why I come to this blog.

Seriously, won't win this war anytime soon blowing up Saudi-financed madrassahs. Every time you blow one up, you're killing some poor tribesman's idiot kid. You will make enemies you didn't have before.
Thing is, I don't give a shit. The Saudis are funding a kind of jihad brainwashing and it has to stop. If it produces more terrorists we'll have to SESS them too. And maybe their grieving families will think again before sending another of their idiot boys to a madrassah.

As unpopular as it may be jeff's got a point. There hasn't been a single instance where airpower alone has won a war, USAF wishful thinking aside.
The best news out of this is that Pakistan's objections to this strike are pro forma. While strikes like this are good, the only long-term benefit is going to be to make Al-Queda leaders more cautious. Eventually things will reach an equilibrium, Al-Queda will continue to operate, and we'll blow up anyone who gets too big for their britches.
If you want to end this, once and for all, there need to be troops going through these villiages looking for Al Queda leaders and equipment. They can be Pakistani, US, NATO, or goddamn Dark Elves, but until they're actually there looking for the enemy and killing them in their "sanctuaries" we're going to lose this war.

I think that is true, but nuggatory. Blockades alone also never won a war, but they darned sure made the win possible. Ask Germany in WWI.
In WWII, strategic bombing crippled German industry, preventing the mass production of their jets and other advanced war machines that would have played hob with our conventional forces. Bombing alone took out the Romanian oil fields that would have fueled the German defense.
As we've seen in Iraq, the enemy is not 10 feet tale. They grow tired of taking a pasting just like anyone else. Keep targeting the leaders (expand the ROE so that these martyr funerals become their own death traps) and try to funnel the infiltration to our killing zones.
Large scale invasion of the tribal areas just seems like a bad idea to me.

Strawman. There are numerous examples of airpower taking out key Taliban and Al-Qaeda leadership, disrupting command and control, operations and supply.
Dude, just because a hammer can't tighten a lug nut doesn't mean it's ineffective.
And FWIW, airpower pushed Japan to the deck of the USS Missouri. They would have come eventually, but at a far greater cost.
