Hoffman will remain a Conservative and a Republican.  In New York, if you are running under two or more party lines, you get all the votes received under each. Alot of Republicans (and even a few Dems, like my local city councilman in Queens) run under the major party label AND the Conservative label concurrently.  Doug Hoffman, unless he goes full RINO in office, would have no problem getting his name on the ballet under both the GOP and the Conservative lines.

There are quite a few of these "third" parties in New York, and the collection of lines the candidate runs under gives you a pretty fair read on their ideological makeup.  A Democrat who is also nominated by the Conservative Party is probably not a leftwing moonbat.  A Republican who is also nominated by the Working Families Party (i.e. ACORN) or the Green Party almost certainly is a leftwing moonbat.

When the premise is flawed you have to say "No, no, a thousand times no," as compromising with error only puts you closer to error. Romney concerns me because he strikes me as a deal-maker. Making deals is acceptable if the deal gets you closer to your goal, but making a deal that gives government more control should never, ever be considered, which is why Romneycare should be viewed as intolerable by any conservative or libertarian.

If Romney would have disavowed Romneycare as soon as this debate began I would feel a lot more comfortable with him. Instead, he doubled down. A shame, really, because I think his business acumen would serve us well, but on these big picture issues I question his judgment.

His failure to endorse Hoffman strikes me as an entirely political attempt to stay in favor of the GOP establishment.

Hi all.  Well, this is good news.  When the election is over I would sure like to see a story on what revolved around this district.  How was DeDe picked, what sort of lobbying went on (and by who), why the 13 ward/district heads picked her over other candidates etc.  I think it would be make some pretty interesting reading.

I think the one that clearly took the most damage over this is Newt Gingrich.  Prior to this he was a strong figure in the GOP and wielded a fair amount of influence.  In addition he was a favourite MSM "conservative".  Politics and showbiz don't like losers and Newt picked wrong, for the wrong reasons and held that position to the bitter end.  I suspect he's lost some support in the GOP and the MSM won't be looking to him as an "expert" commentator/pundit as much.

The winner here (besides NY23) are the conservatives both putside and inside the GOP.  It's possible to take back the party from the rino's but you better start doing from the inside, on a district by district basis.  This election saw a perfect storm coming together.  An almost textbook definition of a rino being chosen over a better conservative candidate (DeDe also didn't run a good campaign), the district heads picking a candidate who didn't represent the districts voters, concern about vote splitting actually getting attention of the GOP and real conservatives stepping in (the biggest of course was Sarah Palin) to finally take sides and finally this election becoming less about winning and more about political philosophy (conservatives vs rino).  Win or lose the seat, this was good for the party.  It's really out on the table now and politicians will be forced to actually choose a side.

It doesn't have to be Palin or Thompson or anyone we know right now but the important thing is that we think for ourselves and not accept the pre-conditions put on our choices by the media.  That is losing the battle before it is fought.  If you don't think they can do to Mitt what they did to Palin then you haven't been paying attention.  You also encourage their behavior by giving in to them instead of calling them on their bullshit.

If enough seats can be picked up in Congress then it won't matter so much who is president.  We can weather that storm either way.  The key is getting enough relatively sane people in power who don't think looting makes for good economic policy.

Finally, it is pretty clear that much of the electorate only has a very tenuous grasp of reality.  No sane country could elect the monster we just put in office with his affinity for Marxists and terrorists, and his inability to understand even the simplest of issues.  I am not sure the cause of this but that is where the bulk of the work will have to be done to save the Republic in the long term.  Getting more people into the news networks and academia may be just as important as getting control of the levers of power. 

Everything is now political because the left has made it so.  The sooner we realize that and act accordingly the better off we will be.
