Many Layers Of Fact Checking At WaPo
It's over at Malkin's and in the sidebar headlines here, but really deserves a post because it's a lie that has legs running all over the internet now.
In their mad rush to smear Palin for something- anything- the WaPo fails to notice that their evidence actually refutes itself.
Here's the hack's headline: Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms
Proof:

Check out the description right on the appropriation.
Covenant House Alaska- Covenant House Facility Expansion (HD-1732)
Emphasis me. The amount appropriated for EXPANSION was reduced.
Paul Kane. "Journalist" for the Washington Post.
You. Are. A Fucking. Retarded. Douchetool of an Obama Ball-gargling Cunt of a Hack of a Fake-ass journalistic dick.
Why do people like life insurance salesmen and carjackers better than they like journalists?
This.
Furthermore, according to this link and accompanying text provided by a commenter named 'Washington Post Lies Again' on the original article (which still has not been retracted), this is a pretty generous EXPANSION.
This is an increase over previous years. See prior funding.

This is getting way out of hand. There isn't anything they won't say, no reed too slender to support the lamest criticisms. I can't say I've seen anything like it--even Gingrich and Quayle didn't get this treatment. And for what? Why are they in such a frenzy over this woman?
Paul Kane's editors should be taken out and horse-whipped.

I've seen this shit before when I was an "elected" official, and increase that is not approved is a cut. The budgets always include increases, whether or not they are justified. When Republicans raise hell and keep the bloated budget at the previous year's level, they have "cut" it by the 20% increase the Democrats wanted.
Just your usually Democrat slime.

Just as the first amendment doesn't give corporations the liberty to intentionally speak falsely to a significant degree, or even unintentionally speak falsely with deficient controls, neither should journalists and publishers be permitted to do so.
Lacking such regulatory structures, the mainstream media will continue to pump out filth and work as a wing of the DNC as it has no expectation of negative consequence.

Here is what I emailed -
Subject: Post needs to correct Paul Kane's basic mathematics error immediately
Governor Palin of Alaska did NOT slash funding for teen Moms. In fact, in the year in question in Mr. Kanes article, funding for Covenant House Alaska actually went UP to $3.9 million from their revenue of $1.2 million in 2006.
How in the HELL does Paul Kane report an increase from $1.2 million to $3.9 million as a slashing cut?
Are Paul Kane and the Post so in the tank for Obama or so afraid of Gov. Palin that they will simply manufacture lies and present it as actual reporting?
Perhaps Mr. Kane is on medication, or does he simply not understand basic math?
One final question how did such a glaring error get past YOU, Mr. Ombudsman?
Regards,

The 2007 Covenant House Alaska government grant revenue was $1,335,073 and is the better base for comparison. See here.
Note that this is the total for all government grants, but there's a high likelihood that the governmental agency in question is the State of Alaska.
Note also that Covenant House is a faith-based organization. If not for Bristol, the MSM meme would be "Evangelical Governor Tripled State Grant For Religious Organization."

I'm guilty of using...gasp...Google and even more of a GASP, the Alaska budget website to fact check (note to Paul Kane: it took a total of three minutes to find what I was looking for) and sending some of this info to the AOS mail box last night.
I'm not going to use the word "hate"--but how about this: I wouldn't mind seeing Paul Kane, his editors and pretty much everyone outside of FOXNews(Fred Barnes and Alan Colmes excepted) strapped to a chum raft in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. This hit job on all things Republican and "ignore Wright, Ayers, Rezko, the whole EXPERIENCETM thing, and how colossally wrong he was on the surge" on the other side is just infuriating. I know why Bubba was getting all red-faced and spluttery during the primaries now.

Here's what I sent:
The headline "Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms" and the accompanying Washington Post article is false and misleading. Specifically, the statement that "Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million" is demonstrably false. While $5 million of funding was requested in 2008, the $3.9 million grant provided in fact tripled the $1.3 million of government funding received by Covenant House Alaska as reported in their 2007 IRS Form 990. Only in Washington can a cut in a funding request that results in a mere 200% increase in actual spending be viewed as "slashing funding." Out here in the hinterlands, we call this type of action by Governors "fiscal responsibility," a quality which is urgently needed in Washington. Please replace this false and misleading story on your website immediately and run a prominently-placed correction as soon as possible.Posted by: Andy at September 03, 2008 07:12 AM (C3mTI)

A recent dispatch by one of your newspaper's reporters "Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms" (Sept. 2, 200
If you look at the picture from the proposed budget at the top of the story, it states that "Covenant House Alaska" was set to receive an appropriation increase of $5 million. Governor Palin decreased that proposed increase to $3.9 million. In other words, the teen pregnancy center still received a significant funding increase - it was simply not as much as the legislature proposed. Kane's story misrepresents Governor Palin's action - she did not "slash" their budget as he states. Budget and appropriation are not synonyms, and Kane's constant use of the term shows either a disregard for the truth, or an ignorance of government budget processes.
This story is misleading and should be either re-written to reflect the reality of the budget process, or withdrawn and a correction published as soon as possible.

I believe the media and the dems have just gone insane...
1. US Weekly a magazine that normally fawns over Hollywood starlets decides to do a hatchet job ("The Palin Scandal") in which they use a disgusting quote from a shithead democrat: "It's conceivable a 17-year-old girl just screwed the GOP," Democratic strategist George Lakoff tells Us Weekly.
2. On the NBC Today Show David Gregory claims the media has not been pushing the idea that Palin can't both be a mother and VP. Apparently David doesn't read the New York Times, listen to NPR or Sally Quinn.
3. Per Howard Fineman If the McCain team complains about the poor treatment they are accused of working the refs
4. A video of Palin speaking in church is newsworthy but Obama speaking at Daily Kos is not. You know the same Kos where low lifes still insist with all evidence to the contrary that Palin is the grandmother of her youngest son and that she should take a DNA test to settle the matter. Some MSM types with help from their Kos friends have also claimed Palin may have caused her youngest son's condition because she flew back to Alaska. I now understand they've deep sixed these claims.
5. Hey Sally Quinn when did we stop allowing women with 5 children to work in high level jobs?
6. James Carville shows a picture of Wasilla's city hall to mock Palin's term of mayor of this small community. He neglects to mention the fact that she's a sitting governor.
7.There are many others of course like Paul Kane, Mark Shields, Alan Colmes, Andrew Sullivan et al... Can we now retire the expression stay classy dems? My objection to this expression is that it assumes that in the not too distant past they were classy.

The only solution is for conservatives to buy an alphabet. I've been saying this since the 80s. Either that or kill the newspapers.
Granted, the newspapers are dying, but it is a relatively slow death, and the alphabets are not affected by the switch from print to Internet.
No matter how much it costs, conservatives have to buy an alphabet.

This has been proven false, and yet has not been retracted:

Might be worth mentioning--in fact, it's probably a bit late, but anyway--Kane and his editors are the ones who deserve the horsewhipping. Sounds like some of the anger here is misplaced.
The ombudsman is merely a conduit for complaints about the paper; his/her job isn't to review the author's work prior to publication. If you want to tar her for working for a shitty rag--and it is that--fine, but the actual prepublication content of Kane's screed isn't her reponsibility.
I've written to Post ombudsman Deborah Howell before, and found her to be very gracious and reasonable--the issue was that silly gash who squeezed out an entire Style section article mocking Fred Thompson's first name.

Would Obama prosecute conservatives? What's next after that? Freedom of speech? Gun rights? The media would fawn over him, and I suspect only Obama's respect for this country would be a limitation.

She's lucky they didn't accuse her of planning the Pearl Harbor attack along with Yamamoto.
I hope she and McCain are planning an attack right now... on the media.
So how do you like your old friends "across the aisle" now, John? Since we are judged by our friends, I think it is time to "reach out to them" with a 2X4 upside the head.

Anybody catch the cosmically full of shit hack Lanny Davis on Fox & Friends this morning trying to spin that the media attacks on Palin are just "the way a new candidate is treated"? How that shit-nosed little weasel didn't explode in a mushroom cloud of ironic dishonesty rebukes science as we know it. Gov. Palin should come on stage tonight and immediately give the finger to all the news cameras there. Go swim with sharks, you soulless bastards.
Also, LauraW calling that guy a "cunt" made me a little tingly.

You really need to work on expressing yourself. Seriously, don't hold back next time!

I know how to destroy them. Ill walk ya through it.
Lets go to the WaPo link above, shall we. (Try not to puke - this has a purpose, believe me!) Click on the WashingtonPost.com logo at the top of the page, which will take you to the WaPo home page.
I see ads for SAP (business management software), Exxon Mobil (gas/energy company), NewsWeek (media company), Sprig (a green guide), Budget Travel (travel site), Express Night Out (entertainment). Any one of these ads is a good one, just pick one.
Now, send a letter to the site, telling them you are no longer going to support their product, because they support - through their advertising - the kind of sham journalism that is on display for all to see. 50,000 letters - angry letters! - and theyll be having some serious come to Jesus talks with the WaPo. When advertising revenue falls off, so do jouirnalists paychecks, and before too long, if they dont mend their ways, the paper dies.
And in the current climate, thats not gonna be a bad thing, is it?
Works the same with print advertising, too. Take a full-page ad in the paper-and-ink version, note the advertiser, and get to writing.
Pretty soon, WaPo down, a few more to go. I suggest hitting BIG advertisers, who can have the same sort of come to Jesus speech with as many MSM outlets as possible.
At this point, I dont really care if the NYTimes, the LATimes, CBS, ABC, NBC, et al, bite the dust. The argument can be made that we are better off without their noise than we are with any semblance of journalistic objectivity they claim to be able to bring to the table.
Good riddance to bad pennies, I say.
THATS how we beat them. Hit em where it hurts! Hard!
