— Ace Miami's loving this guy.
Williams told The Miami Herald for Tuesday's editions that when players were given Friday off, "Automatically your mind, which is so constrained since training camp began ... says, 'I'm free, what can I do?' ""So there was definitely an urge," he said. "But I just thought about what I have to lose, and it was easy. The urge didn't last very long."
Since 2004, the Dolphins running back has played only 16 NFL games, including three this year. If Williams were to smoke marijuana again, he would likely be out of the NFL for good because he already has violated the league drug policy four times.
"There's no space, no wiggle room for me," Williams said.
He said that doesn't scare him, because he feels he's in control and on the right path. He said he successfully fought off the latest urge to smoke by meditating instead, which gives him the same "feeling of being free" as marijuana.
And you know what helps relax you for meditating? Pot.
Thanks to Dave at Garfield Ridge.

Williams said he will not smoke marijuana again while he's in the NFL, but he's uncertain whether he'll abstain when his career ends in six weeks.

How fucking pathetic are you when you throw away a chance to live the life people dream of, so that you can smoke something that white trash kids, do tokes of one hitters off of at lunch time?
If I so much as drank in the 6 months leading up to my Summary, It was gonna be upgraded to a Special.
I didn't drink, because I liked where I was (minus the CM thing) and things were bad enough without me making it worse,

I'm having trouble figuring out the exact word I want to use here.
I'm going to go with "absurd". It is definitely absurd that a football player's career would be artificially cut short because he wanted to smoke a particular plant, instead of tobacco and didn't make alcohol his choice either. Those would be ok. MJ ? No, not that. No football for you.
That's just nuts.

And 2 months of working at a salvation army, ain't that fucking easy. (not to mention, but I will anyways, a year suspension of liscence, 3 years of additional insurance filings, the skyrocketing insurance, the 7 years of DUI on my record, the fact that my full name and address were printed in the local papers, the phone calls from my family and a bunch of other shit)

Drug war propaganda. They tell us everyone back in the '60's was smoking ditch weed while today's reefer is super potent. Ooooh, scary!
People who long term self-medicate with reefer usually have other underlying psychological issues. Are they any more daft than someone who's swallowing valium all day?
Ever been around alcoholics? It's not like they're a swift and rational bunch. Any addiction can be a problem depending on its severity.
As mentioned, drug prohibition is the cause of the worst problems associated with drug use. Treating every user -regardless of how casual - as an "addict" is a joke. So what if Ricky smokes some reefer*? How does that hurt anyone?
* Unless his employer has made clean pee a condition of his employment, which they obviously do. Another remnant of the War on People Who Use Drugs, since reefer is hardly considered performance enhancing. Unless you're in the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest...

I have to agree with something you didn't say,but I think you insinuated.
I don't believe addiction is a physical thing. There are aspects of physiology that make the psychological addiction easier to accept or rationalize, but fact is, it's all in your head.
Doesn't mean you don't have problems, it's just that those problems aren't your chosen addictions. It's you.

When I was a teen, I got popped for underage possession of alcohol. The judge sent kids like me to the Salvation Army detox center as "volunteers" to get a look at the folks who got dragged in on PI/DUI arrests. Pulling the urine soaked pants off an incoherently screaming, wheelchair-bound Sterno bum stays with you.
But they let us smoke there, and the drunks were as obedient as a dog begging for a Milk Bone once they saw I had a pack of cigarettes.

Marijuana should not be illegal. It is less harmful and less addictive than tobacco or alcohol.
This is America, the government should not be dictating what fully informed adults choose put in their bodies in the privacy of their own homes.
Laws against marijuana are no more relevant, sensible, or constitutional than laws against sodomy.

The FDA and truth in labeling could have solved that. After 100 years of the drug war illicit drugs are easier to get than beer for most teens. Setting aside the constitutionality, arresting people for addiction is pointless and inhumane.

I've attended a fair number of AA meetings (mandatory) and something I noticed?
All the people who have replaced their addiction to Alcohol with an addiction to AA meetings, where they become important people, tend to MAKE SHIT UP!! Just to scare the new recruits.
Sorry, If it wasn't for the addiction scare, a lot of people wouldn't realize that "hey I can get TRASHED! on cough syrup!!!" so that they can capitalize on it.
Stories about how sipping the sacremental wine during mass is bullshit.
It's not an addiction, it is a guilty pleasure, and eventually, when you realize it's available, you go hogwild. Not because you are addicted, but because you can.
I did No drugs other than cigarettes and beer for about 11 years. I knew it was a waste of time, but I hate being lied to. "If you do drugs you will get fired."
It was absolutely stupid, but I realized that damn near everyone I worked with was doing coke (in it's variations) or heroine.
I'm the Kinda guy that attracts attention, even when it's not intended, and I got sick of it, so I went out with a coke fiend (a true coke fiend) and I did coke.
Another coke fiend friend got shitty, and loud at work "Pinto's" (I go by my last name more than my first) "been on the straight and narrow for 11 years, and one night with you he gets geeked!!!"
ONCE! in . . . . 15 years now, have I done any illegal drug, and I wouldn't have done it that one time, if I didn't see the hypocracy of the measures of drug use.
So I can see that argument, thing is?
Booze is the best buzz, and it takes a lot of effort to lose track of who you are with booze.

I actually had the most respect for Ricky when he quit the NFL because he liked toking and didn't want to have to compromise.
Now that golf is instituting drug testing (god bless you, Gary Player!) one of the things on the banned list of "performance enhancing" substances is marijuana. Pot is a lot of things, but to call it performance enhancing is ridiculous.
As to ILLEGAL, well, that's not the same as wrong. I don't smoke anymore because it makes me more stupid than I can afford to be these days, but I still drink enough to risk stupidity and that's not ILLEGAL.
And, uh, WickedPinto? Bummer about you almost killing a guy and all, though your subtext suggests you wish you had. I'd wager dollars to donuts that whatever meds you're on or off right now are a hell of a lot more potent than ganja.

I find government intrusion on my personal health, even for the good, to be akin to fascism. Still I have a hard time with the legalize it mentality.
I've worked with many a user and the memory problems were pretty obvious. Plus, males who use regularly tend to turn into bitches.

Just another POV, I don't think it's a damn bit funny.
As a recovering alcoholic, I understand that addiction is a bitch. It takes a long damn time for a brain that is used to associating regular normal activities with drugs or alcohol to quit making that association.
Now somebody will follow this up with "I'll drink to that", and yes, that's kind of funny. But making fun of addiction is not really funny. Sorry to be a spoil sport. Someone over at Hot Air scolded me for using hyperbole, so I'm in a foul mood.

Pot makes you stupid. I know. You stop, you get better. I know. But the god's honest truth is that Ricky Williams is a fucking cunt who can't keep his shit together enough to pass an NFL drug test. Those things are so telegraphed, they might as well be done by Western Union.
