During his three decades in power, Saddam was accused of widespread oppression of political opponents and genocide against Kurds in northern Iraq. His execution means he will never face justice on those charges.

11 Before Saddam went swing dancing, Hannity and Colmes had some gal with the last name Cho (?) complaining that Saddam didn't get a fair trial, and that although "there may be evidence out there" of his guilt in crimes against humanity, she didn't see it, and therefore can't be sure of his guilt. Further since the judge was removed from his trial, it was obvious he didn't get a fair trial. (Now, did the judge get removed in the second trial, instead of the first? The judge who started out calling Saddam 'your excellency', and then went on to extol President Saddam's virtues, etc...)?
Anyhow, it was all so unfair to her, and therefore illegitimate.
And somehow Bush's fault.

Capital punishment has a deterrent effect (obviously the criminal won't be committing any more crimes). Is it just that the media takes times like this to show how bend-over-backwards fair it is by arguing that even Saddam Hussein needs to be tried fully and fairly on all counts? What is it?

I was puzzled because my nephew, who is an Army Ranger, is here for New Year's and told me that he was shipping out to Iraq next Wednesday..his mission: Guard Saddam until he was turned over to the Iraqis. I thought that Iraq would drag this out for a few more months, at least. Now, the kid is 21 and might have been spinning a tall tale for all I know, but I come on here and see that Saddam is pretty much dead. I start blog-hopping, and at Malkin, she has a screen shot of CNN's Saddam tribute. I then switch my TV to Fox, where Gretathe Ugly is interviewing a Saddam defense attorney.

I admit, I'm on my 10th beer and 5th shot of Grey Goose (sorry, no Valu-Rite on THIS holiday), and I may be rambling like WickedPinto....but if an asteroid destroyed the world tomorrow, I probably wouldn't be too upset. Cnn is the treason channel, no doubt, but Fox is much more liberal than many will admit. MY news channel, if I were a billionaire, would had had a countdown clock and confetti at 10 EDT, if not a live feed of the hanging.

That's when it dawned on me that he wasn't just another mid-tier member of that cold-war club, "Our Bastards"; but that he was an actual enemy of humanity. Sorry to jack thread, but IRT the Kurds, the best part about supporting them is that by protecting their autonomy, we're giving Turkey the finger.

Before the war started in 2003, I was an operations officer in the European theater. As you may recall, the 4th Infantry Division was aboard ship sailing in the Med seeking a port in Turkey. Our NATO ally would not give us clearance for a land invasion and only allowed overflight, so we could only employ one airborne brigade in the north (notwithstanding Spec Ops, who are not equipped for holding ground.) The invasion was left for the 3rd ID to launch from Kuwait, with the 4th ID following on. Had we been capable of opening a large northern front, I honestly believe we would not have the level of violence we have now.

We could have had every single soldier and Marine at the ready in Kuwait, but the limitations of throughput meant that we could only extend our front in the south so far. That left a large part of Iraq unpacified and allowed an effective escape route.

So, when you hear "not enough troops," "bad strategy," etc., you can thank the Turks. There was never any doubt that we would succeed in toppling Saddam, but the Turks chose the wrong side in history.

Holy smokes! This place just gets worse and worse. The bathroom is a unisex one-holer. No urinal, just a very small toilet stall. So small, in fact, that to take a crap I had to contort myself in such a fashion that had my right leg resting on top of the toilet paper roll dispenser. Not only was it unconfortable, such a position caused me to shit up my back.

Also the toilet paper consists of poison ivy coated with industrial strength abrasives.

Strangely, even in hell, the toilet seat is cold.
