Palin Now Viewed More Favorably Than McCain... and Obama
— Ace

Actually, she's viewed more favorably than either man's high-water mark of favorability all this year. Superstahhh.

While you're at Patterico, just cruise the page. There's more on there lately than I can link.

Stubborn Facts refutes the media's insistence that Sarah Palin "came out of nowhere."

After documenting Palin's well-received appearances on TV and the growing enthusiasm for her as a pick -- Ross Douthat at the former respected general interest magazine turned gay gossip site The Atlantic, for example, expressed his increasing confidence she was a risk worth taking -- Stubborn Facsts writes:

So - decide for yourself. Did Palin's nomination "come out of nowhere"? And what does it say about the MSM that they thought it did?

It says they're hyperpartisan leftists, most of whose work is actually done for them by the DNC and David Axelrod. And, increasingly, by the Daily Kos, who publishes the stuff so depraved that the DNC and David Axelrod require an additional layer of insulation to hide their fingerprints.

If something's too vile for the DKM (Daily Kos Media) to publish, then just leak it to Kos first. Kos puts it up, his fellow leftists chatter about it endlessly, Andrew Sullivan injects into into the legitimate media by posting it at the gay gossip site The Atlantic, and then the media can report it, because now "everyone's talking about."

Once again, the anger: These people are being paid to follow trends in politics, including trends on the conservative side, and yet they absolutely refuse to read right leaning blogs even while being paid for their time.

If they had read right wing blogs, they'd have known that Sarah Palin had become a GOP hero the past six months over her tough, articulate advocacy on drilling, and many people were touting her as a Veep-pick. Including Beldar, and including that guy who set up the Draft Palin website.

Maybe if you stupid fuckers could tear yourself away from your precious Daily Kos and FireDogLake for two fucking seconds and do your jobs, these "out of left field" surprises wouldn't keep sneaking up on you.

McCain knew the Republican base loved Palin. He knew this because the blogosphere, acting as a large ad-hoc (self-selected) focus group, had already indicated its enthusiasm for the choice, and therefore, most likely, the enthusiasm of the base as a whole.

I had written to someone at camp McCain about the inadvisability of choosing Liebs as a running mate. "McCain is aware," I asked, "that Giuliani lost, and McCain won, largely on the abortion issue, isn't he?"

He didn't respond. But an hour after the Sarah Palin news was out in the media, he wrote back, faintly crowing:

"How do you like McCain's judgment now?"

Or words to that effect. He wasn't asking; he was gloating. The point is that he already knew this choice would go over well, and I wasn't even on the "Draft Palin" bandwagon. Not that I wasn't jazzed about her; I just didn't think it was likely enough to push.

Why is it that the news media -- supposedly highly professional objective journalists who have no overt partisanship, but are merely hounds for a "good story" -- cannot even stand to read right-wing blogs?

Or alternative (not liberal media of any kind for that matter-- apparently they don't even read or listen to Bill Fucking Kristol, who's as big a macher as you could want?

Surprising? Only to the eternally oblivious DKM, because they're so absurdly partisan they cannot even bear to read opinions from the conservaties they so loathe, even if doing so is in fact part of their general job description. And even if doing so would help them get a handle on their political enemies.

Every goddamned rumor or attack floated by TPM, Daily Kos, Greenwald, etc. the media knows about. Those blogs they're reading. Glenn Greenwald need only mention Joe Klein before Joe Klein is involved in a blog-feud with him.

I can call Joe Klein a diseased sodomite and there'll be no response -- because he doesn't even know about it. It's a right wing blog. No point reading it, and no point rebutting it -- our opinions don't matter.

Well, gotta tell you assholes, if you're supposedly non-partisan, or at least able to put partisanship aside when you do your work as you so often claim, you should be able to work through several hours a week keeping track on the right wing blogosphere (and not merely what you find out about the right wing blogosphere by reading the Daily Kos' claims about the right wing blogoshpere).

Even if you have to clench your teeth while doing so, you ought to be able to fucking hack it. No?

If you are so repulsed by conservative opinion you can't even bear to read an opinion different from your own when you are, I must stress, being paid to do so, forgive me if i doubt you can set such seething animus aside when typing up your stories Barack Obama campaign talking points.

Trust me. He cannot win a 2 on 1 fight.

6 They just have a difficult time getting their heads around that fact that the insults from this side are so much funnier and insightful than those from the suckers of Satan's barbed cock. When it comes to internet humor, the conservative blogs just whomp them all to hell. They just cannot stand it because they are supposed to be the creative force in the world, or so they've been led to believe.

9 Ace -

Funny little detail over at Sullivan's kookhouse: in the interests of integrity and evenhandedness he is now also calling for Joe Biden to release HIS medical records alongside those of Sarah Palin.  Why, he even boldly promises that "I won't relent on making sure that Joe Biden's full medical record is available to the press!"

He's fighting FOR us, Ace.  For our right to know.

Oddly I got the buzz about Biden being the VP off of democratic sites. Huffpo and Dkos were really spinning him the last few days before he was announced.

I wouldnt have know that if I hadnt read it.

I keep waiting for the media people to snap out of it but they never do.  I am an optimist though, being a moron.

Although again, I understand the people who don't follow politics because of the WTF crappy bias and errors in the MSM. How our so-called politcal elite deals with that and normally just contribute to it.

Palin is a hit among people because she is not playing that game.

It is a shock and so refreshing to be treated as an adult that the behavioral effect is slamming through all levels of US society.

It's exploded and ain't no way for the MSM or anyone to unexplode it.

HOLY SHIT

I'm watching O'Reilly (don't ask me why) while I surf and SALLY QUINN is on there RECANTING her Sarah Palin remarks!!!

"I was wrong"

This is huge.

14 Jeff B.

I read that too. What a sly little devil he is eh? No clue what he's after.

I wonder if Sullivan saw that Joooo Documentary maker article where he says he followed her around pregnant and even has a pictorial image of a pregger tummy that Andy KOSivan can examine for proof.

15

Damn.  Stubborn Facts fucking nailed it- she's been mentioned as a possible VP pick all year, and the MSM either didn't know, or are simply pissed that McCain tricked them into thinking that she wasn't on the short list.

But that's what happens when you get used to writing "stories" consisting of warmed-over DKos blog posts and Obama press releases.

16 Sally Quinn was wrong and she was an insulting snot when she said what she said.

Posted by: Topsecretk9 at September 05, 2008 03:26 PM (9Mhkt)

17

Sally Quinn just said on O'Reilly that she was wrong about Sarah Palin and that she made a judgement about her before she knew enough about her.

(But of course she says that she would have said the same thing about Sarah Quinn had she been a democrat.  Sure.  Please, woman.)

Sally Quinn has no clue that conservative blogs exist.  Or more specifically, Sally Quinn has no clue.

Posted by: SlaveDog at September 05, 2008 03:26 PM (6Gy0q)

18

So everyone who says they never watch O'Reilly, just happens to be watching O'Reilly.

Heh.  It's a coinkydink.

Posted by: SlaveDog at September 05, 2008 03:28 PM (6Gy0q)

19 If her nomination came out of nowhere, we wouldn't have been talking about her as a pick months ago.  Over two years ago in her gubernatorial campaign, she created a national buzz. People were excited about her and predicted that she was the one to watch. So, I don't know how anyone can say that she came out of nowhere.  I would have expected the msm to have a better grasp of the current political scene. ... hahahaah!

oops.  Must be some kind of Freudian Slip related to my relationship with my mother, or something.

But Sally Quinn is kind of hot, in a mature, non-mom-like way, of course.

21 Palin seems real- much more so than Obama and Biden- who are about as genuine as a plastic blow up doll (sorry, I've insulted the doll.). She also seems to soften McCain and make him more likable as well.

Hey! We're much more genuine in the 21st century. Hell, even the 90's models had more realistic hair than Biden.

25 "Why is it that the news media -- supposedly highly professional objective journalists who have no overt partisanship, but are merely hounds for a "good story" -- cannot even stand to read right-wing blogs?"

If I was being mocked and vilified as cruelly, effectively, hilariously, and WELL DAMN DESERVEDLY as these media phonies are, I bet I couldn't stand to read about it either.

26 I would be very interested to run a national poll, simply asking one question: "Name the most dishonest profession in the United States of America." I imagine we'd get a lot of "lawyer" and "politician" answers, but something tells me variations on the "journalist" theme would be a pretty hefty percentage across the political and geographic American spectrum.

29 Bit of a segue, but I was just listening to the radio and heard an interview with Tom McClintock. For those of you who are NOT current or ex-Californians, Tom is one of the VERY FEW sensible politicians left in California, a budget wonk and a hard core conservative of the Reagan school.

He LOVES Palin.

He is of the opinion that she MAY be the second coming of Ronaldus Magnus himself. I (and he) say may because, obviously, she has the deck somewhat stacked against her, what with the media being on the lookout for any time she sneezes in the wrong direction. So, if you needed another endorsement, there you go, from a man who has the respect of most if not both Conservatives left in California (of which I am not one. Fuck that place, I couldn't leave fast enough).

BTW, he does NOT like Sen. McCain all that much, for reasons that I need not repeat here (hint: immigration is a BIG one, but not the only one). Just so ya know.

Posted by: Militant Bibliophile at September 05, 2008 03:51 PM (cXseo)

30 Oh, I should have mentioned, McClintock was the OTHER Republican who ran against Ahnold in the recall of Gov. Davis. Wish to God I had voted for the man then! If he ever chooses to come up to Oregon, I would offer anything up to my firstborn child to help him get elected to office up here.

(Okay, maybe not the firstborn, but I would consider donating my pr0n fund. A close second, you know...)

Sully wants Biden's medical records so they can hopefully find an honorable excuse to get the distinguished gentleman leaden hoof-chewer off the ticket in favor of some sexy.

They ain't got sexy. But they'll tell themselves that's what it is.

35 Daaaaaamn! Ace is MAAAAD! I am too. These loopy cunts don't give a damn about anything but electing the one they love. But their shit is getting fucked up by demographics. Every newspaper's circulation is getting dropped like a bag of hair. And MSNBC is running dead fucking last in ratings every sungle fucking day. Love it. They're holding a revolver to their head with 1 bullet chambered. And over and over again they are pulling the trigger trying to figure out what's going on. It's amazing.

Posted by: Rasputin at September 05, 2008 05:32 PM (tunH+)

36 Why doesn't The Excitable One ask for the rest of Obama's medical records.  Has he released more than a one-page document yet?

37 MSM, please read Ace's blog. He has some good, informative stuff and he really would like you to see it. Please, we're not begging here, but really, please read AOSHQ. Thanks. That ought to do it. Our blog could go either way, maybe I'll make a lefty post or 2 and they'll start reading ours, and I'll link you or something, get them over here. Don't worry, it's all good.

38 As a high school student during the 60's, William F. Buckley was my hero.  What an enchanting man.  Yet he was reviled (then) as a nut case, and beyond the pale of acceptable discourse.  I actually knew other teenagers at the time who also disregarded the  absurd criticisms, and saw the man for who he was.

To focus on the relevant (to Palin) characteristics, he was authentic, not a phony, a man of integrity, gracious but pointed, full of humor, forgiving but not weak.   He accepted and most often embraced the humanity of every person, which is what made him a conservative, and not an ideologue.

Ronald Reagan, ditto.

Sarah Palin, ditto.

These are rare humans, because they are what we average humans know is the best we can be, and can translate it into the  bizarre and repulsive world of politics so seemingly effortlessly.

Yes to Sarah.  Thank you to Whomever.

40 Now cable news is alive with the story that Elizabeth Hasselbeck of "The View" "outed" the fact that Michelle Obama came on the show with a negociated list of topics that would not be touched, while Ms. McCain came on with not such list. "... but this is standard for celebs" they say ... but apparently not for political figures.
