Get rid of the "religion" part, and you pretty much some up 3/4 of the people immigrating to the US... or anyone from CA.

Too bad you didn't turn up back in the 1890's Haji. They'd have buried you up on boot hill just for being too slow to arrive with your shine box.

Uh no. My grilled cheese kicks my mom's grilled cheese's ass.

There are several really important things that will never fail to disappoint me now that I can't have my mom's versions anymore:  the Thanksgiving turkey dinner (we also always had for Christmas), corned beef and cabbage, home made potato salad (insanely good), as well as great grilled cheese.

My mom had lots of great qualities, but I swear she could not cook her way out of a paper bag. Velveeta on white bread, burned on one side...well, actually...burned on both sides, and cold in the middle.

Posted by: Peaches My Mom treated us like gods; we got burnt offerings at every meal, I mean, I could always tell when she REALLY overcooked something, because the first thing my Dad would say was "Where's the ketchup?!". Having said that, she was a wonderful, wonderful woman, and I miss my Mom terribly. She's been gone just over four years (she would have been 93 last week). It was a full year before I stopped feeling so depressed. You never realize just how much someone loves you until they are gone. Last week, a co-worker's wife just had her first baby, a little girl. Just one day after the day my Mom died four years ago. "...and when I die, And when I'm gone there'll be one child born And the world will carry on Will carry on..."

Bossy Con, that's so cute about the burnt offerings!  And, yeah, it's very weird to have all the Mother's Day stuff all over the place now that my mom is gone (fall of 2011).  Never really thought about it before, but it's definitely odd.

So Europe stood up to Putin's aggression by ... voting for the bearded lady circus freak to win the eurovision song contest thing. So ... yay?

I just want to share something that seemed sort of sad to me today. We were coming home from church and we passed a box turtle crossing the road. We came back to try to get it off the road (and some guy pulled off behind us to try to get it too) but by the time we got back either some idiot had run over it deliberately or he didn't see it. When I picked it up it's shell was broken and bloody. I know this kind of thing happens all the time, but I had never seen a box turtle hit on the road and I have always really enjoyed seeing them alive ever since I was a kid who spent most of my time outdoors.

That would make me sad, too, Fenelon.  And some assholes do deliberately run over wildlife on the road, when I was in Ohio, they thought it was great sport to do it to raccoons.  Hateful people.

Well to stand up to Putin's authoritarianism, Europe is trying to show how open-minded and freedom-loving they are by: 1) Banning euro-skeptic political parties 2) Arresting and fining anyone who says anything mean about Islam and 3) Giving awards on TV to trannies with beards.

The thing that seems to bug me the most about the administrations response to boko haram is the utter lack of concern when they blow up christian church after christian church, with people in them, and they say nothing. Mind you plenty of children were killed in all those attacks. But now that they are taking heat for some of their utter incompetence in north africa they care suddenly. But how will they tie together dem talking points and hashtag diplomacy when the bodys start piling up in Ukraine? Maybe they can get the Guardian to blame it on global climate disruption.

My mom was also a terrible cook, but she everything else well! She used to make me a "maraschino cherry cake" for my birthday and I thought well she can't cook but she makes a great cherry cake. Then when I was grown I said "You made a great cherry cake." She said oh, it was from a box...lol

Once when I was a kid I saw a (presumably) drunk guy in a Santa Claus suit, driving with his head out the window because I guess the windshield was too dirty, run off the road trying to hit a possum. I'm 100% positive I will never in my life see that again.

When I was a teenager near Seattle my friends and I would always used to try to hit crows with our cars, and I have very little regret. Disgusting, obnoxious creatures.
