One of the Coleman Ballots Al Franken is Challenging
— Ace

You have to see the picture to believe it.

Kinda hard to "divine voter intent" there, I admit.

2 Which proves that Al Franken is an idiot and has no business being an elected offical let alone a senator.

3 It's hard out here for a douchebag.

4 but they drew outside the line, clearly an error

Posted by: billypaintbrush at November 19, 2008 01:44 PM (VfyB/)

5 For all Al knows, they could meant to vote for Charles Barkley.

Posted by: ben at November 19, 2008 01:44 PM (ueTby)

6 I think I'd have to hold that one up to the light for a bit.

Posted by: a4g at November 19, 2008 01:44 PM (LLF8h)

7 Um..maybe Franken just felt that the voter wanted to vote for him, but somehow knew that this particular voter is functionally illiterate, and that's why he made the markings next to Coleman's name?

Posted by: shibumi at November 19, 2008 01:45 PM (tZB/c)

8 Hello.  What they're not showing in that picture is on the ballot the guy wrote in mandarin he meant to vote for me.  Clearly, that is mandarin character in the bubble that indicates "NOT", meaning NOT Coleman (or the other guy above him), but YES Franken.

Gawd - anybody can figure that out.

Posted by: Al Franken at November 19, 2008 01:46 PM (GTpOW)

9 Sure looks like a write-in for "George Washington" to me. Seems like a wasted vote, but if the voter wants one of the guys on the dollar bills to represent him, then one of the guys on the dollar bills gets to represent him.

It couldn't be more clear. Next.

C'mon, Ace, it's clear that not filling in the oval properly and colouring outside of the lines means this is at least an invalid ballot if not a clear vote for Franken as he's the candidate who plays outside the lines.

Posted by: Mr. Star Tribune at November 19, 2008 01:47 PM (6rN+7)

11 so franken is part of 3 parties?

wow

Posted by: chris at November 19, 2008 01:49 PM (A+Pqo)

12

You need to understand that folks from Minnesota are truly different from ordinary Americans (except for those on the respective coasts).  An over-dose of lutefisk and kringla can damage the mind.  This makes certain motor skills difficult.  Hence, the "drawing outside the lines" and swirlys.  Living long-term in Minnesota can effect your sanity (sorry, Powerline guys) which is why I choose to stay out of it.

Did I mention that the Iowa football team has the best half-back in the nation?  Or, that Iowa plays Minnesota this weekend?  Or, that I played for Iowa?  Nevermind, it doesn't impact on my analysis.

Posted by: Fierce Scorpion at November 19, 2008 01:53 PM (DE7cN)

13 On HuffPo yesterday they cited a study some egghead did, predicting Franken would win the recount, basically because Dems are dumber than Republicans. They don't know how to fill out a ballot correctly, so there will be far more Franken undercount than Coleman undercount.

He's probably right.

BTW, this study was referring to ballots on which the intent is clear, but the scanner couldn't read it--for example, when someone checks or scribbles in the oval instead of filling it in.

Posted by: xbradtc at November 19, 2008 01:58 PM (qgtU8)

15 Somewhat ott, but notice that Franken is triple listed on the said ballot as the "Democrat-Farmer-Labor" party...is that an offshoot of the old granger party?

Posted by: adagioforstrings at November 19, 2008 01:59 PM (5mK/2)

16 I wonder how funny it is going to be when this piece of shit is elected? Just keep counting and challenging until you get the right result. Then stop.

Why Republicans put up with this shit is beyond me?

Posted by: Travis at November 19, 2008 02:00 PM (6rWRX)

17 Recount is just another word for "litigate until the dem wins"

Posted by: brak at November 19, 2008 02:00 PM (pmc0S)

18

so franken is part of 3 parties?

Five if you count the Communist Party and ACORN.

I don't expect any problem with the recount. What could go wrong with this guy in charge?

http://tinyurl.com/6dllvf

Posted by: JackStraw at November 19, 2008 02:01 PM (VW9/y)

19

There's actually a story at that same StarTrib on how to look for clues as to who's winning the recount! Oooweee! Didn't realize that there were clues to counting. Missed that episode on Seasme Street apparently.

Mare-I think that the crazy pills are everywhere. Like they've been crushed up and sprinkled into the air -er something. OH WAIT. That's the pixie dust preceeding the rainbows and my shiny new unicorn. My Bad.

20

I don't know the history behind it, it's probably in Wiki, but Power Line always calls the Dems by the local, DFL title.

Posted by: andycanuck at November 19, 2008 02:04 PM (6rN+7)

21

Ah...apparently the DFL in MN is like the AFL-CIO:

http://tinyurl.com/6362rv

"The Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party today is the Minnesota arm of the national Democratic Party, the oldest political party in the world. Its history is distinctive, however, because it also has its roots in third-party protest movements. The DFL came into being in its modern form when the Minnesota Democratic and Farmer–Labor parties merged in April 1944."

Posted by: adagioforstrings at November 19, 2008 02:04 PM (5mK/2)

22

And if the "Clues On Counting" story wasn't enough for you, there's a judge who's now ruled in favor of Franken that he gets to see the list of absentee votors and why each of their ballots was rejected/not counted. What are they going to do--verbally poll each voter? I'm asking. For what it's worth, I can't say that I see any "Repbulicans putting up with this shit"; all their efforts are seemingly thwarted.

I'd love to see him on the news saying "Damn right I voted for Coleman, and I'm going to kick Franken's ass."

Of course, Franken would produce some moron saying "It's mine, and I just don't know how I wrote in the wrong place."

I keep telling you people, the answer is THIS IS MINNASOTA, the democrats (or equalvilant) own this state and the limited mentality of the people (mostly thru the very poor school systems that exist here).

I have had to watch the stupidity and corruption of the DFL during this campaign. They don't even try and hide it. The authorties actively participate in it and those that aren't are quickly removed or bribed. I came from Virginia and I saw some questionable thing there but compared to here it is by the book.  Most of the people know their politicans are corrupt but don't give a damn, and know that they can do nothing about it because of the embeded problems.

The politicians only care about their personal power closely followed by the party power. They really only care about the party, so that the party will cover their back if by some miricle they get caught and can't bribe their way out.

The "Red Star" of Minnasota is useless, finding any honest reporting here is like attenpting to find gold on the streets of  New York.  The media is either owned or controlled by the party. All the major state agencies are controlled by the party.

Don't get me wrong the adverage Joe and Jane on the street are great people kind, friendly and honest but so used to being used by these clowns that they do not even notice

I am praying that my current contract is up soon and I can get out of this political hell hole before I lose what little common sense I have left.
