— Ace I know this has been well-covered. But I've been catching up (sick, again) and I just need to post the video anyway.
This is jaw-dropping: At around 5:00, Nancy Pelosi asserts that her top aide, whom she sent to the Feb. 2003 briefing on her behalf, only told her that a briefing had happened, but did not tell her a single nugget of information from the briefing itself.
That is her claim. Her aide came back and said, "Yes, as expected, there was a briefing." She claims she didn't then ask the follow-up, "Yeah, I know, what did they say?" or for some unfathomable reason he refused to tell her.
PELOSI: Have a nice briefing?
AIDE: Oh yeah, super. Very interesting.
PELOSI: What about?
AIDE: Torturing terrorist suspect Zubaydah.
PELOSI: ...
AIDE: ...
PELOSI: ...
AIDE: ...
PELOSI: I'm going shoe shopping after lunch. Come with?
She also claims that she didn't feel she had the responsibility or the time to write a letter or co-sign Harman's letter, or raise any objection at all, because she was too busy doing the real work of trying to stop torture, i.e., fighting partisan battles to take back Congress and then, much later, the Presidency.
There may be some truth there, though Pelosi didn't intend to reveal it: The reason she didn't object is that EITs were then, as they still are, politically popular, and therefore any party which wanted to capture Congress or the Presidency had better appear "tough on terrorists" and not confirm the public's perception of them as weak and overly fussy about terrorists' comfort levels.
So really, basically, she's claiming what we all know to be true: She didn't object because she realized that would be politically damaging, were it leaked, and all she really cared about was winning elections.

Sorry I'm late. Hey Dad, I raked the leaves today and man there were a lot of leaves but leaf-raking is important so I raked them. Then I put the rake away after I got done with the important work of raking the leaves. If I see anymore leaves on the ground I'll rake them, because it's my responsibility to rake them and it's important work. Now Dad, I don't know what you heard about why I'm late and drunk but it's not true. I was the designated driver and I was telling all the guys that we had to go, but Kevin passed out and we thought he had alcohol poisoning so I gave him mouth-to-mouth and he barfed all the beer into my mouth and I guess now I'm feeling the effects, but at that time I was not drinking. I was trying to get these guys home so I could get a good night's sleep so that tomorrow I could get back to the important work of raking the leaves. Well, goodnight Dad.

Don't think this was part of Il Duce's master plan, the moonbat/dems walked into a swamp of their own making They and only they are concerned about torture. However CIA would not play along and it blew up in BB's face.
Il Duce had to change in mind on the pictures (after Cheney spoke) and can you imagine the thousands on people in DHS and involved in security who actually understand the risk, do you think they will stay slient, do nothing and not leak any documents. This risk is very bad for WH. Maybe some focus group told them it was a bad idea.
If congress wants to expose themselves to ridecule and remind voters how concerned they are about the "rights" on terrorists...this is a great way to do it. Club Gitmo may go away, but the problem won't. Conservatives need stand tall and mock Pelosi et al and ask voters Do you want these people responsible for your security ? These people who are more concerned about international law and what the EU thinks about us.

Panetta is a political animal. He knew that responding to the Republican's request was going to create a firestorm and could have deferred the decision to the White House.
Either he did it on his own because he was tired of being pissed on; or the White House gave him the green light.

Hell, even Lindsay Graham was on Shep a few minutes ago saying what a bunch of hooey it is.
Shep, of course, in his usual style, kept repeating to the audience and to a prior guest what amounted to a chant of sorts, basically, "waterboarding = torture = illegal"...over and over again. I was just about to scream when Graham came on and, while not directly addressing Shep, addressed the assertions of Shep's 'prior guest'.

Hi all. Forgive me, but I was just wondering when waterboarding was officially branded as torture? I saw a video of the practice a couple of weeks ago (I believe it was done for the Playboy channel (I think). It was done by what seemed to be an experienced interrogator and it lasted about 7 seconds before the subject signaled him to stop. The subject did indicate that it was incredibly terrifying and that the sensation of drowning (along with panic even though he knew this was only a demonstration) was overwhelming. You can probably find other videos that are similar.
From what I can see, and listening to the subjects comments afterwards, with the exception of the severe fear that was induced (along with rabid breathing, a racing heart, the subsiding feeling of panic) the subject was essencially unharmed. He was certainly left shaken by the experience but then if you are trying to extract information (possibly time critical) that should not be surprising. He did recover quickly. In any event, there were no body parts left on the table, no blood, no broken bones, no crushed fingers, no blinding, no scars etc. When compared to what the Gestapo (and yes, they waterboarded as well although their version was a great deal harsher) or the KGB (to name just a few) this form of interrogation seems almost tame.
I'm not trying to make light of this as I think it is the central point of a number of these arguments going on currently. If waterboarding is not strictly speaking torture then there is no kerfluffle regarding the opinions written by the lawyers, no issue about what Pelosi knew or didn't know (with the exception of the veracity of what she said she knew and when she knew it), no need for "truth commisions" on handling of prisoners (remember that these are not regular POW's) etc.
Just like to know what people think. Ace, if I'm in the wrong place for this let me know, not trying to hijack the thread.

"The longer and more complex a defense, the more likely it is a fabrication."
Add to this the fact that she had to find her place in her notes / prepared remarks to repeat herself, just to make sure she gets it all right.
If it were the truth, she would be able to spew it all off the top of her head. It is usually the lies that you need a script to get straight.

Quietly, I will say just in my own opinion, that I hope there are interogators that have the ability to do a great deal more than waterboarding in the extraction of information from our enemies, and have the presence of mind to do it in such a way that they not be caught. I consider them heroes.
It's not like we picked up the people we're waterboarding off the street at random. In most cases they were found actively shooting at us, or otherwise caught purposely trying to harm us. I honestly could give a damn if we break some bones in the process. These pieces of human excrement hardly do that for us, indeed they would gleefully take our women and children and give them a horrifying death.
To the sanctimonious political animals that say we are above that eat shit and die: You can be sanctimonious when we're fighting a real war. This isn't a war against a nation or against a military. This is a war against subhuman fanatical garbage that will blow up our children and their own children to prove a point about how great their god is. They should be treated as such.

So the first she heard of waterboarding was when the CIA mentioned in a briefing that they were not engaged in it? Was this just a turets like blurt out o their part "shitbag! we are not waterboarding anyone ASS!" or did they run through an entire list of things they weren't doing... eye gouging, cigarette burning, purple nurples etc etc.?
Why would the CIA proactively announce in a briefing that there is this one EI technique that they are not doing? Makes no sense.

61., Interesting post. The left feels that most questioning/interrogration is not permitted under Geneva (sp?) accords. Accords apply to soldiers representing a nation/state fighting a war, but don't apply to terrorists.
Moonbats/MSM/Libs feel that all treatment of terrorists by US should be with our constitutional protections in place..regardless of citizenship. So even if waterboarding was not torture, it still should not be permitted. Think of the full protection provided to any one accused of a crime.
So if the Left/Dems/MSM had their way, any prisoner would be in a jail, have a lawyer and be provided a public trail with process of appeal. Like a common criminal.
Most people understand that terrorists will take any acts necessary to kill and injure people After all they are happy to die for the cause. First role of any government is to keep it's people safe, so it is reasonable to expect the US government to do everything in it's power to protect people by preventing attacks. Information is needed to prevent attacks, you get it any way you can.
BB would rather let an attack happen, than have her moral sensibilities (and those of the left) questioned. Dems are outraged by Gitmo, but have never proposed a workable alternative that can keep us safe. Dems have never responded to the threat islamic fundamentalism poses, other than to pretend we are the cause.

Speaking of torture, waterboarding ain't it. I have had done worse things to myself on purpose than that, it is all a psychological deal. They soften them up for months, then do that.
