— Ace I kid, actually. I disagree with Captain Ed about the un-patriotic pastelization of the American flag's colors-- I think the lighting design is damned nifty. If it were the Republican platform, I'd be singing its praises.
Then again, I've been forced to watch Trading Spaces and Project Runway more times than I'd like to admit.

Compare that to the Republican stage (hit the link). Our stage? Damn, I like that too. Simple and strong. (Actually not so simple; it just looks that way.) If we're knocking stages for lacking fidelity to the actual colors in the flag, well, I think the Republicans have changed the colors a bit too; a bit oversaturated, and a bit darkened with black. Fierce.
I'd love this stage if I didn't see the Democrats' cotton-candy lightshow. Now I worry a bit it's going to come off a bit flat and static compared to the Democrats'. I mean, they're going to be able to Change lighting schemes as someone's talking.
It worked for Bill Cosby in Himself. Adds a little sense of scenery to an old guy just sitting there yammering at you.
Also note that the Democrats' backdrop will be interesting enough in close shots, as each element is small enough to be part of the background; the Republicans' backdrop will look grand in long shots only. Up close -- in the range of 90% of the pictures -- it's just going to be some dude standing in front of a couple of red and white stripes.
Captain Ed quips it seems the two stages are designed for two different audiences. Well, yes. But I think they're both good, and both play to the intended audience.
I give the Republicans' state 3 WWII-Era Captain America Shields out of four, and the Democrats' three and a half Zorro-snaps with a Tim Gunn "Make it work" kicker.
Dual-Use Thread: Obama's veepshit in the sidebar.
Here's the news:
It's either Bayh, or Biden, or someone else.
You heard it here first.
Biden Head Fake? Obama's plane en route from Chicago to Delaware. Possibly to pick up Biden, more likely in a planned fake (pre-arranged by Biden) to paint him red herring to disguise real criminal, I mean running mate.
PS, on Fox, they note the bumper stickers reading Obama/Bayh seem kind of crude and lack the fabulousness of Obama's cutting edge/retro-Stalin graphic designers. So, almost certainly just a company hoping to get product out the door ahead of competitors.

If I say it's too flashy, will that be interpreted as racial code for "pimpin'"?
But seriously, it looks like DNC hired X-Zibit and said, "Pimp My Convention!"

I don't see where the Banker sits (and with the recent discussion about the Big O, money & ACORN, looking for where the girls set their briefcases might be considered in poor taste), so I suppose that the theme they're going for is "Weakest Link". But WL takes more than 1 player.

The dems set is very American Idol. I think the word in the 'community' for it is "Fabulous". I don't know if it will play with the swing voters in middle America.
The GOP's set looks strong and proud. I like it. It has a "don't fuck with America" kind of look that should compliment McCain's personality nicely.

The Repubs looks like usual. The big flag backdrop is a big screen not just a painted flag. The floor reflects the flag because it will be shiny, as in not covered with carpet.
The Dems looks flashy but is a waste. Over 50% of it won't appear in even one newspaper pick or tv highlight reel. There's just too much going on and too many people to use long shots where you can't even tell who's on stage.
The Dems look like a concert stage but the only people who ever get to appreciate a concert stage are those in attendance.
The Repubs setup looks better on the long shots anyway because of the better floor layout and carpeted aisles. Frankly the audience section for the Dems looks rather cheap and even more so due to the elaborate stage.

Quote ap story:
WASHINGTON (AP) - The University of Illinois said Friday it is releasing records of Barack Obama's service to a nonprofit organization linked to former 1960s radical William Ayers.
<snip>
The records of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an organization that Obama chaired and that Ayers co-founded, will be made available to the public Tuesday, the University of Illinois at Chicago said in a statement. "

Interesting, but not my cup of tea... but since laws are variable in Denver; when is the free murder week?
I mean, there's a guy I know in Denver who owes me a couple bucks. Not enough to risk jail for it, or even make an issue of it, but if it's law-free time; I'd hate to miss out on the chance.
Screaming "Where's my $7.50?!?" while beating him senseless with an axe... that could be cathartic.Or Free Arson week... the fires would be pretty.
