— DrewM Update: Confirmed by Obama spokesman.
Breaking on CNN from Obama shill Roland Martin.
Remember, "I could no more distance myself from Pastor Wright than I could from my white grandmother"?
I guess grandma is on notice.
Below the fold is the Pfleger spiel on Hillary that Obama denounced. Will he be asked if he felt out of place among people who laughed and cheered something he denounced? How could he spend 20 years worshiping in an environment like that?
Related [ace]: To let you in on a little secret, I've been a member of the Illinois Nazis for twenty years.
But I now am surprised and disappointed to find them saying that "the Jews are using the blacks as muscle to move in on you, and you are left defenseless."
I just didn't know Illinois Nazis said this sort of thing. They certainly didn't say anything so controversial at all the Hitler Rallies and Cross Burnings I attended. You also have to understand the "context" in which these sorts of things get said, and also note the various grievances Nazis might have against the US government. Like, you know, they're still pretty pissed about that whole Dresden thing. And driving Hitler to suicide in his bunker. And various other anti-Reich activities.
Honestly, if you're not an Illinois Nazi, you really are in no position to judge what might be said inside the Aryan Church.
At any rate, as I now am surprised and disappointed to find my political viability as a blogger damaged by my utterly-innocent association with the Illinois Nazis, I am "distancing myself" from them at this late date.
I do not expect to be asked any questions about my lifelong association with them from this point forward. Some people are allowed to associate with hardcore racist extremists for all their adult lives and then simply disown their entire past history with a meaningless politically-expedient gesture, and I insist I am among the select few permitted this license.
Furthermore, this entire controversy is a "distraction" intended to draw attention away from my message and the issues that really matter.

ha.
it's too little too late - IF it's true.
he'd have to also divorce her and disown reszko, khalidi, ayers, acorn, et al AND compile a reasonable legislative record of success over a few terms before he's off the truly hook and trustable.

I surely hope you're right. The Pfleger ads are still fair game as it can still be cast as an earmark issue. And it will be enough of a reminer about Obama's 20 year church, without really having to talk about his 20 year church (because that's not fair because he dropped his membership, blah blah).
Maybe he can get Ayers and Dohrn to move, or to decide to take extended sabbaticals in New Guinea or something.
And Rezko can always have an accident in prison.

I'm grateful he and his lovely wife aren't as smart as Oprah. She left years ago even though I would guess she didn't personally object to the sermons either. She did understand what association with that kind of trash could do to her career, IMHO, and bailed for that reason.

Don't you just sort of, you know, start attending a different church for whatever reasons and simply join and/or transfer to the new church?
Who the hell announces a "resignation" from a church?

I guess with some churches it puts them on notice that you will not give them money. Not that the Obamas were ever big in the charity department. They gave about $24k last year but considering what they raked in that's pretty chitnzy.

The press did a lot of this bullshit with Bill Clinton. I don't know if anybody remembers. It was kind of pre-new media back then. But between 60 Minutes, the other networks, and the newspapers, they pretty much coronated Clinton before the election even happened.

If he stays in his church, a) the closet-racist and b) bad judgment while insulting voter intelligence conclusion sticks.
If he abandons his church, the political expediency destroys a) hope-change meme and b) bad judgment while insulting voter intelligence conclusion sticks.
Obama's savior? The Democrats still vote and shill for him. The MSM still votes and shills for him. (But I repeat myself.) The undecideds remain disinterested enough until around election day at which point they'll hear the moral equivalence that Wright-Pfleger-Meeks-Ayers-Rezko-etc. : Obama :: Hagee : McCain.

If the disinterested moderates make that analogy, then they haven't been paying attention. McCain never claimed any kind of "spiritual mentor" relationship with bonkers Hagee. He never wrote him up in a book. And he never held a press conference to say that there was no way he could abandon Hagee.
So, the analogy is a bust. It's not even comparable. Let's hope most rational people see past that smokescreen, which will become popular soon enough when Obama's campaign starts tanking.

Either he's an idiot , a corrupt hack from Chicago, a subversive, or a combination of these- either way he is a total disaster for this country. Carter actually mouthed enough platitudes to make you think he would at least be mediocre in 1976. No issues about that with BO.

I think the church should resign him! Excommunicate semi-whitey!
It frustrates me that people will say this is a made up issue by the RightTM, without hearing what is being said, it's a matter of judgment. The ramifications of a Prez's poor judgment are HUGE! SCOTUS appointments, Cabinet positions, whom he speaks with in the foreign community...
BO has shown a huge lack of judgment, and MSM will not call him on it, and the people who do are seen as shrillish hacks, that are tools of The Man...and we all know The Man is really Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity once they work their Voltron magic.

An analogy: Some talking head show presents some issue. There's the vast majority point of view (POV-M) that POV-M is correct. The overwhelming minority POV (POV-m) is a relative blip on the radar. Due to show limitations on time or producer/editor bias designed in to the debate, the discussion panel includes one member to support POV-M and one member to support POV-m. The perception now is not that the majority POV-M dominates, but that each POV is equally valid, that there's equal acceptance and truth to both POV-M and POV-m because of the structure of the debate. It's sort of a cloak of "fairness" that really conceals the truth.
Now repeat that scenario on multiple fronts. The MSM exhibits this groupthink/stylethink regularly. They are masters at delivering messages. Sometimes they get clumsy and the mask falls, but they remain the best in the world at shaping opinion due to a) training, b) experience, c) ideology, and d) monopoly.
I used an extreme example to illustrate, but don't underestimate the ability of those who would still be aware of the original analogy (despite not following every development) to be persuaded that the equivalence is valid. What proportion can be persuaded? I don't know, but these federal elections are always close at the ballot box (perhaps less so at the electoral college level), so a percent here or there can and will make a difference. Bush's unpopularity (in spite of a Democrat-controlled Congress w/ even less popularity) and McCain's milquetoast remain in the moderates' minds. Bush/the GOP's unpopularity probably will be enough to trump even the thoughts of those who would find Obama's POV (as spun by the MSM) unfair. Enough, however, will still find the MSM drumbeat compelling.

Obama will speak to this decision later today. My bet is he will attempt to do the same thing he did with Reverend Wright and make it about how the Church has changed recently.
If that is the case then Obama needs to explain how he can change his mind about his church of 20 years when facts on the ground change but is unwilling reevaluate or even visit Iraq or General Petraeus to see how the facts on the ground there have changed!

He's already on record, defending Trinity United and how wonderful it is, just a few months ago.
Better believe it, people will run that via 527's ala "I actually voted for it before I voted against it." It makes Obama look weak, politically craven, and says that he really believes what Trinity United stands for, but doesn't want to upset "Whitey."
I'm just waiting for Michelle Obama's "I hate Whitey" speech to surface. Good times, good times.

Well, that was just too easy. The "right wing noise machine" took Barry O. from defending his Uncle Wright (Retired) to resigning from his church in less than 3 months. I say the "right wing noise machine" needs to take on something a little more challenging now. There are still more than 5 months to the general election. I say the "right wing noise machine's" next task should be to make Obama name a Republican as his Vice President. And not just any Republican. Obama should get a Republican that agrees with him on the war. Obama should get a Republican that agrees with him that America is a disaster. Obama should get a Republican that is as naive about foreign policy as he is. Obama should, nay must, pick Congressman Ron Paul. Ron Paul for Vice President! Yeaarrhhgghraaa!
There it is, "right wing noise machine." Go to it.
