Obama Never Vetted Hillary For VP?
— DrewM

PUMAs! Attack!

There’s one Democrat who would seem to have little or no chance of being picked by Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) to be his running mate – his former opponent, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).

But it’s not for the reason you think.

Obama has often said, most recently on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on July 27, that Clinton “would be on anybody’s short list.”

But apparently not his.

“She was never vetted,” a Democratic official reported. “She was not asked for a single piece of paper. She and Senator Obama have never had a single conversation about it. How would he know if she’d take it?”

Allah can't imagine it's true and thinks it's either part of the most elaborate head fake ever or a poison pill from a jilted Hillary.

Me? I think Obama is both dumb and arrogant enough to do just this. He hasn't exactly kept his promise about helping retire her debt, has he? And totally blowing Hillary off is one way to say, 'this is my party I'll do what I want, do what I want'.

Meanwhile a new name has popped up in the 'The Other One' sweepstakes...
Texas Congressman Chet Edwards.

Edwards, a nine-term congressman from Corpus Christi who serves on the House Appropriations and Budget committees, is a favorite of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who went on ABC’s “This Week” and said, “I hope he will be the nominee.”

What's their slogan going to be? Obama And The Edwards Without A Love Child!

More: In the comments Brad asks what PUMA means...People United Means Action. It's an actual PAC. Some hardcore Obama opponents also refer to it as Party Unity My Ass.

Needless to say, they are my favorite Democrats and I hope they show up loud and proud in Denver next week.

Shouldn't we be referring to him as Obama's Simon Peter, or his Rock.  Or whatever othe term you can think of for the additional messianic imagery.

3 Chet Edwards is ineligible to be VP. His mother was only 14 when he was born and had him while on a binge in Tijuana. He was naturally born in the back of a newly upholstered (2-tone tuck and roll) Chevy but he ain't no natural born American.  I'm suing.

Maybe a stupid question.. but hasn't she been vetted up the ass already since about 1992.. what's the point?

Posted by: IreneFingIrene at August 22, 2008 08:25 AM (nqlWD)

5 This does sound plausible to me.  Obama has already shown a considerable amount of arrogance towards Clinton and her supporters (saying they need to 'get over it') and is a generally self-centered sort of guy.

6 IreneFingIren,

That was my first thought two but there's two things...one is the Clinton Library records. That never got looked into fully and could be embarrassing and the other is the lack of a conversation about it.

Personally, I don't think Hills wants the gig. She probably doesn't think Obama will win and she can really walk to the nomination in '12 as the "I told you so" candidate.

More than that, even if Obama did win, does she really want to spend 4 or 8 years playing second fiddle to him? She's sort of been there, done that already, right?

8 He is arrogant enough to discount PUMA anger. Does anyone think Obama has succumbed to his own propaganda? If he has surrounded himself with enough yes-men he may actually think his comments have not become more and more delusional lately. China? Superior infrastructure? Where does he get this garbage? He is like a spoiled little boy who insists on sitting in the pilot's seat of a jetliner, and proclaiming that he's flying the plane while at the same time fiddling with his Nintendo or necktie. Meanwhile, some adult who dresses him and cleans up after him will have to operate the controls from another seat. Who?

...and it's exactly this, on top of crap governance, that would make the next four years really, really unbearable. What a smug cake-eater--"you're all just going to have to wait for me to announce it."

His VP candidate, whoever it ends up being, is going to end up being a bootlicker. Kaine, call your office.

11 Just to clarify, this libtard represents Waco and central Texas, not Corpus Christi.  He was born here but left many years ago.  Thankfully.

Good point.  I laughed when Obama said he picked someone who challenges his thinking.  All I could wonder was "why start now?"  He's too full of himself to pick someone who might challenge his sense of superiority.

It's for the "bootlicker" reason alone that I'd really relish an Obama-Clinton/Clinton White House. The ritual and comprehensive shaming of her and Bill, the finger-wagging, the pursed-lipped dismissal of Mrs. The One, the outrage, the resentment--c'est magnifique!

Can't you imagine? Obama giving orders to his chief of staff at the very outset, making it abundantly clear that Hillary Clinton is a charity case, a political pity-fuck, and that she should be treated with complete, codified disdain. "Our administration must endure her," Obama purrs to his toadies, "but we must make clear that she knows her place." Anyone who shows her favor will be ridiculed and then dismissed.

And that means no, Hillary!, you can't use the White House formal china. Oh, and Blair House? We'll be reserving that for special guests. You and Bill have a walk-up in G-town, don't you? We'll also expect you to live our promise to the little people by flying coach, like a good dear.

Too rich.

16 Even if O was to bend over backwards to coddle and be nice to a VP Clinton, I still wouldn't recommend going on a tour of Ft. Marcy Park or eating from the lovely fruit basket sent over by the veep's office.

17 I don't blame Obama for never vetting Hillary. I was forced to do it myself long ago and it still gives me nightmares. Think comatose polar bear on a frozen lake.....

18 It ain't gonna be the Hildebeast. Too much extraneous drama, too many "3am commercials." But, this dissing of her is really going to hurt The One in the general; see today's WSJ--her supporters are still pissed. I hope he picks Chet E.; he's an unknown, somewhat non-fellow traveler liberal guy who is part of this to be failed strategy of running to the middle that our fellow is trying to execute. It'll be a disaster.

19 I'm sure Obama will UNITE the party under the slogan "Get Over It". After all, this whole thing is about HIM.

20 The Maverick now has another VP pick option, and I'm sure Hillary would accept.

23 I doubt Senator Obama even considered Senator Clinton for the VP job, why would he go through the motions if that's not even what he remotely thought about?

24 'this is my party I'll do what I want, do what I want'.

Except he's gonna let the Clintons dominate what should be his convention.

25 I'm hoping there will be close-ups in hi-def whenever Hillary and Michelle are in the same vicinity at the convention. Can you say "visual daggers worthy of a half-hour infomercial"?

I predict that Kristol will predict Jim Webb.

28 I tried posting on this once, but it just disappeared into the ether.  Probably for the best.  The main points are these:  Chet Edwards endorsed Obama very early in the process, even though he gets elected by conservative Democrats.  He poses as a big supporter of the military and votes like a lib most of the time.  He talks a good conservative game to his constituents, and they know nothing about what he does in Washington.  As long as he supports the local VA hospital, he's gold to them.  But when they found out he had endorsed Obama (and most still don't know), they were livid.  I've been telling people for months that Obama had to have promised Edwards from the beginning that he had at least a good shot at the VP spot in order to get his endorsement.

What TMF said. Absolutely. Have you seen the polls?

Chet Edwards my ass.

30 Frankly I view Obama's dismissal of Hillary along the lines that Hillary should be familar with. Just think of him as saying. "Put a little ice on it honey".

32 Even if Obama wins the presidency, he doesn't wear the pants in that family, and no way will Michelle let him pick Hillary. That woman does not want another female in the spotlight with her baby-daddy.
