— DrewM He won't be visiting Ramstein Air Base or Landstuhl Regional Medical Center as scheduled. According to a statement from one of his advisers, the visit is off because his campaign is funding this part of his trip.
During his trip as part of the CODEL to Afghanistan and Iraq, Senator Obama visited the combat support hospital in the Green Zone in Baghdad and had a number of other visits with the troops. For the second part of his trip, the senator wanted to visit the men and women at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center to express his gratitude for their service and sacrifice. The senator decided out of respect for these servicemen and women that it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign.
That's about the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Who cares if his transportation around Europe is being paid for by his campaign? He's a sitting Senator for God's sake. As a spokesman for McCain put it, "It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military..."
If he was worried about making a political spectacle of those serving there, especially the wounded, he could have gone without the press. I'm sure the US Air Force has the means to keep unwanted visitors off the base.

If there is one thing more pathetic than a liar (take John Edwards... please), it is a liar who is so fucking stupid that he begins to believe his own idiotic lies and is thus amazed to find out that others don't. Mr. Obama has entered, nay soared, into this rarefied stratum of elite liars.
Gawd it must suck to be a Dem, knowing that you about to nominate yet another incompetent serial liar-loser, and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it without your core competency, identity politics, biting you in the ass.
Rove, you magnificent bastard!

"I'm sure the US Air Force has the means to keep unwanted visitors off the base."
Ramstein is HQUSAFE, a TAC base. You can bet your sweet bippy they know how to keep the press off-base.
Another FYI tidbit, Landstuhl is the German town right next to Ramstein (great old castle up on the hill there), so we aren't talking about a long commute between the two.

Maybe they got Ramstein the airbase mixed up with Rammstein the German metal band?
'Cause while that "Du Hast" shit is kicking it, it's inappropriate for a Presidential visit.
Uhhhh. Will be Presidential.

Meeting with the brass in Iraq? Fact-finding mission to evaluate diminish "surge," therefore appropriate.
Hopscotching over to Berlin? Now a political campaign with visiting injured/maimed grunts inappropriate.
The Obama campaign: Anything you want it to be. Everything you want it to be. Nothing you want it to be.
I hope the accountants are keeping track of when campaigning begins and ends. Be a shame if funding and asset reallocation got all buggered up such that laws were broken inadvertently. I'm sure His staff thousands are all over that. That, and making sure He doesn't offend the troops.

Posted by: Penfold at July 24, 2008 03:46 PM (lF2Kk)
Oh, the Lefty Donks will let 'em vote; they'll just do their damnedest not to count their ballots. It's only the illusion of caring He's after... and I'm not sure He's even up to that.

Yeah, they did that in 2004, can't let those doing the real work have a say. And yeah, BHO couldn't give two shits about any one served their country, he doesn't understand the concept of duty, honor, country.

It just shows you one major flaw Obama has. He is a coward! He is probably afraid of the reception he would get from the soldiers. And if he was worried about it looking like a campaign event. DON'T LET THE PRESS COME WITH YOU!
When will the Obama robots see this phony for what he is? He is nothing but canned speeches about hope and change. He wouldn't know an original idea if jumped up and bit him on the rear. He is afraid to go on Fox News Sunday because they might ask him a tough question. He is afraid to debate McCain in an open town debate. He is afraid to admit the bravery, sacrifice, courage and performance of our troops during the surge is what made it work. And he is afraid to admit he was wrong about the surge all along. He is afraid to do anything that is not carefully scripted.

"Subject: An Army Captain's view of Hussein Obama's Visit
Subject: Obama's Visit
Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened."
Comments: The above comments are not only "factually incorrect," but also "inappropriate" for uniformed Army personnel, according to a statement by Bagram Airfield spokesman Lt. Col. Rumi Nielson-Green.
Barack Obama paid a visit to the Bagram air base on July 20, 2008, but neither went to the "Clamshell" nor played basketball, Nielson-Green told NY Daily News reporter James Meek in a statement published July 24. He said Obama took time out to greet home-state troops, shaking hands with them and posing for pictures
News photos of the candidate's visits to Iraq and Afghanistan show that he interacted with rank-and-file American troops while in both countries.

I clicked on every hyperlink I could and saw two pictures of Obama posing with soldiers. So yes and no. I'm not sold keephopealive. It was pretty minimal. Like as in; the least he could get away with. I was expecting a series of photos, not bare minimun.

What a maroon. He could have sealed the deal if he'd just go to Landstuhl and heal the sick. Hope, indeed.

This, translated into plain speaking:
"The senator isn't going to spend time with our military unless someone pays him to."
