— DrewM Obama's been getting a lot of heat for opposing the Illinois version of the federal Born Alive Act, which would have provided protections for babies that survived an attempted abortion.
His campaign now says he opposed the bill because it would have undermined Illinois abortion law.
The funny thing is, as recently as Saturday Obama claimed that he only opposed the bill as a state Senator because it didn't include language that would have prevented it from undermining Roe v. Wade.
Brody: Real quick, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. I gotta tell you that's the one thing I get a lot of emails about and it's just not just from Evangelicals, it about Catholics, Protestants, main -- they're trying to understand it because there was some literature put out by the National Right to Life Committee. And they're basically saying they felt like you misrepresented your position on that bill.Obama: Let me clarify this right now.
Brody: Because it's getting a lot of play.
Obama: Well and because they have not been telling the truth. And I hate to say that people are lying, but here's a situation where folks are lying. I have said repeatedly that I would have been completely in, fully in support of the federal bill that everybody supported - which was to say --that you should provide assistance to any infant that was born - even if it was as a consequence of an induced abortion. That was not the bill that was presented at the state level. What that bill also was doing was trying to undermine Roe vs. Wade. By the way, we also had a bill, a law already in place in Illinois that insured life saving treatment was given to infants.
There's only one small problem, Obama actually voted for an amendment (that passed) which added the same exact language the federal bill included to protect Roe and yet he still voted against the full bill in his committee.
How extreme was this vote? The federal version of the bill passed the Senate unanimously.
So to recap, Mr. New Politics, Mr. Let's Have Less Abortions, voted against a bill identical to that which passed the US Senate with the support of pro-choice politicians, then he lied about it while accusing others of lying about his position. And to top things off, he has now come up with a new and equally implausible reason for his opposition to mandating care for infants that survive an abortion.
There's only one name for a man who can do all of this...Captain Bullshit!

BTW-Andrea Mitchell just left me a teary voice mail. The only thing I could make out between the sobs was, "Leave Barack Alone!"

How can someone be lying if all they do is show the bills and how you voted?
No commentary is even needed. To lie someone needs to say something right?
It's pure idiocy to use this excuse. He would have been better off saying that was one of the days I inhaled.

Senator Obama believes in Roe v Wade. Stop bringing up irrelevant distractions about how Obama voted against medical care for babies. It's that kind of divisiveness that prevents America from uniting together to elect Obama president. You and John McCain should stop dividing America!

"Let me clarify this yet again, this is my position as we know it right now. I do not support the clubbing of botched aborted babies, but if you want to throw them into a trash compactor, I have no problem with that as it has been John McCain's and Dick Lugar's position for years and we have worked in a bipartisan manner for this."
This is turning into The Decade of Barry.

Qwinn, new site is being a biatch with embedded .jpgs. You can see them on old site, and if you happen to see them there, you'll probably see them here thereafter (I assume they're cached at that point).
It's issue number 14 on the New Site Bitch List.

You're not the only one.
I use Firefox at home and and work and have just resigned myself to the fact that I am missing out on some of the good stuff here at AoS.

Nope, that wasn't exactly what I meant either. I guess you should keep 2 browsers open, one on the old site and one on the new. No, 4 browsers. Two Firefox and 2 Internet Explorer.
- What about the versions? Which version of IE and Firefox?
+ Just shoot me now. OK?
- Kablam! OK.
