NYT: Obama's Finally Picked His VP Candidate
— Ace

The final three, according to the NYT: Tim Kaine of Virginia, Evan Bayh of Indiana, Joe Biden of Delaware.

Bill Kristol hears a different three: Kaine, Biden, and Sebelius.

So did he pick Sebelius? Does the NYT's final three not include her as a head fake? And did John McCain psychically cheat by anticipating Obama's selection through mindreading and precognition?

Meanwhile: Tim Kaine has attempted to raise taxes several times, each attempt blocked. He now faces the prospect of "difficult" cuts in education and transportation, which of course he's attempting to hide until the November election.

Heh. Two weeks of "will he or won't he." Let's get it over already.

I don't see bayh bringing obama indiana.

Indiana is a very purple state, but one of the things that everyone in indiana, well, people who've ever been to chicago, while living in indiana tend to hate, it's chicago politics.

Chosing bayh won't just not do obama any good, but will do bayh a lot of harm.

All three of these would be welcome picks from a GOP standpoint. Sebelius and Biden will send the Hillbots into fits of gnarlacious frothing rage. Bayh is a yawner. He'd be a more attractive candidate if he had been in and left Congress and was today serving as a governor, not the other way 'round.

6 If it's down to the final three, he didn't pick one. I can't say I'm sitting on the edge of my seat to find out. And all these teasers have become just annoying. The last great VP was Dick Cheney.

Biden's a loser from day one, might as well chose schumer, at least schumer can lend some armor when obama starts to turn right, if obama ever learns how to do it without sounding like a retard.

Or rather, like I did when I was in second grade, stuttering like a retard when required to read aloud in class.

Good on you obama, you sound like a drunken lunatic, when he was 8 years old, intimidated by large groups.

"So, Senator, what is your opinion of an individuals right to bear arms?"

13 Still praying for McCain to pick Sarah Palin. I am so down on my knees praying for McCain to pick her...as a matter of fact, I would blow John McCain if he promised to pick her as his VP. If Obama picks some lame leftie white guy, and McCain picks Palin, this thing is sewn up.

14 Please, oh please, let it be Joe Neil McKinnock Biden, king of hairplugs and plagiarism. After all, he called Obastard a "clean" black man. On the other hand, the genitalia/melanin ticket has its attractions. One is half-black, the other is a surrogate for Hillary!, who is half-female. Or so I've heard.

15 Hmm, Well RCP puts Obama up .5 in Indiana, but that has decreased alot (as it has in FL, OH, VA, CO, NM, and NV). Maybe he could carry IN, I mean Indianapolis, and Gary and pretty Liberal (especially Gary). Perhaps IN, could sway, I would say more than VA. One person who few people have spoken of is Elizabeth Dole, why not her for McCain? I also still really Rudy...

But if Obama picks Sebelius, and then McCain picks Palin, we are treated to weeks of "the Republicans are just 'me too' on a female VP nominee".  I am so sick of us reacting, or being portrayed to be through the lens of the MSM.

BrokGrowBarRock,

WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN!?  Not your post, your name, at least mine, can elicit speculation, That moniker means something, but I cannot fathom what it might be without an explanation.

As for carrying indiana, just cuz gary is SAID! to be the second most populous, and just because Indy, IS the most populous, you forget the way in which they keep track of geographical populations.

Gary, which I live VERY close to, is liberal, only because of the dominance of blacks, but the whites, and mexicans (the mexicans are SKYROCKETING in gary) in gary are fucking sick of the corruption, so while the broad demographic is left, the refined (remember it's statewide) is turning against the left, also remember that in the last . . . . 9 presidential elections have shown that polls have been off by as muchas 5% in their assumptions, (I'm wrong about the 5, but it was more than 5% in ohio last time) so basicaly national, and state polls always lean dem.

Also, our current governor, daniels, managed to not just pay teachers, but increase income, reduce waste at the state universities, and turn an (I'm gonna fuck this up) almost 4 billion dollar deficit, into a damn near balanced, and likely create a surplus.

If indiana is actually up for grabs, then that is an IMPORTANT point, that every indiana rep, and state rep needs to make.

Also, while NW IN politics dominate the majority of the state (they do, cuz we get a LOT of money from people who work in chicago, a LOT!) and even more than money we get media, Indiana which is still a largely rural income (not lifestyle, but income) don't trust those folks from the big city, while watching flatscreen HD TV's in their gigantic farmhouses, realizing that THEY will be treated like big city folk in taxation.

Trust me.

I am broke, and don't have a job.

Indiana is McCain, and if Obama Chose Bayh, Bayh will not have a job, I will lay the wager.

Posted by: wickedpinto at August 18, 2008 04:16 PM (ul7te)

23 Bayh carries Indiana for Obama like Pawlenty carries Minnesota for McCain. Meaning: not. I say, pick Palin; pick her now. Make all the Dem's rewrite their speeches before their convention. I'd love to hear Hillary's speech: "but We Have A Woman At The Top Of The .... oh, damn." And what could Bill POSSIBLY say the next night. "I'd hit it!" wouldn't go over well at the Democrat convention.

Posted by: notropis at August 18, 2008 04:18 PM (FvFgp)

24 I've had another thought... Is it possible after all these nauseating months of Hope and Change and Unicorns, will the electorate decide, as the cosmological scale of Obastard's vacuity becomes more evident, that the smart vote is for known quantities? Will a McCain/Pawlenty ticket look like the adult choice precisely because it doesn't sell itself on image, bloviation and kewl grafix?

Posted by: George Orwell at August 18, 2008 04:19 PM (AZGON)

25 Please let it be Joe Biden, please!

27 Since we, as Republicans, are used to the taste of bitter, bitter disappointment (cf Gerald Ford, Dan Quayle, Bob Dole) just a couple of theoretical questions:

30 Guaranteed sure-fire crash-and-burn GOP death: McCain/Huckabee. Only marginally worse than McCain/Lieberman. I still think, as someone else suggested elsewhere, that the true, honest, ideologically sincere ticket for Dims is Obama/Barney. The dinosaur, that is.

While talking to Sobek, famous of the IB, I mentioned to Sobeks wife, that I heard a recommendation from one of the pundits (I forget now, I mentioned this in february) that McCain was courting Huckabee, Sobek's wife's eyes widened and said "don't tell (sobek)"

Well, I'm me, so I told sobek.

There was as close to a fury that a nice guy (a VERY nice guy btw) like sobek can have, and sobek made it clear he MIGHT vote for McCain, but not if it was McCain/huckabee.

Then I mentioned how thompson openly endorsed McCain, and I saw almost the same response.

I don't know, you would have to ask Sobek, but I don't think his opinion is unique.  It might have to do with "principles" something many politicians, and politophiles are ignorant of.

Pawlenty would be a fine pick for McCain.  He pretty much eviscerated Kaine when they appeared on that Sunday morning taking head show, and he would humiliate any of the folks on Kristol's list in a debate.

I don't know much about Bayh.  I've heard he isn't an absolute dumbass though.  If that's true, he may have just declined Barry's offer.  Hell, even Chuck Hagel caught on to the fact that things aren't too swell in Obamaland.

36 Ahem, Barry could pick Al Franken.  Twenty years of SNL experience should lock in the moderate Dems that want a VP with live TV experience to counter McCain's POW stint and his 20 years in the Senate.

Of course Jack Murtha could do that, too.

Bayh isn't retarded, he's a pussy.

I explained this to Mesa, he went off on a tear one time (how do you spell it?  "tear?" "tere" tare?, whatever) about how indiana as a moderately "red state" (btw, you notice that the MSM has assigned us RED? as in commy?  I think it was deliberate, to use the red white and blue concept, to deflect the RED concept attached to communism to the 'Pub's, but since it's supposedly a "red white and blue" theme, why aren't the undefined states, WHITE, rather than purple?   See?  a simple man can see complex motivations.)

Anyways, Mesa was in a . . . okay, fit, but fit isn't accurate, he was perfectly rational, about why indiana keeps electing republicans, but they trusted bayh, and so on.

Well, the reason is, (as I said) we are a truly balanced state, unfortunately, thats not always a good thing, thing is most of our 'pub's are Pussy's, but benefit, is that most of our dem's are rationale.  Unfortunately, most of our dem's are also one issue politicians, I know one of them personaly.

Bayh will NOT, and NEVER WILL sell next to Obama.

Bayh works in Indiana, as a pussy, as a false centrist, but NEVER as the right hand of a leftist.

I can't see any reason why Hillary would accept the VP offer.  If I was her I'd already have my plan to depose Dingy Harry as Senate Majority Leader.  It's no compliment to Hillary that I think she'd do a much better job.  And Senate Majority Leader is a hell of a lot more powerful than VPOTUS.

And if she's VPOTUS and Obama somehow wins the election, he's gonna majorly fuck up...and she goes down with his ship for good.

no way--she didn't put up with BJC for all those years to humiliate herself (accepting VP) for the chance to be destroyed politically by aligning herself with Obama.

Obama is WAY TOO BAD to be trusted at all, I think that nixon, and garfield are the only failed candidates to have achieved the position a second time.

But I don't think there is any history of a 1 term presidency, not being immediately followed by a 2 term presidency of a member of the other party.

If Team McCain already knows that Obama's pick will not be a woman, they are right and it is better to wait until just after the Dem Convention to sabotage O's convention bounce. Then he can announce our Sarah as his running-mate and preempt all the media coverage. Schwing!

I have to presume that McCain has kidnapped a high-ranking Obama aide and is torturing the fuck out of him with all the tricks he learned the hard way in Hanoi to learn who Obama's pick will be. If not, he just lost all my respect - I expect a President who can get the job done.

81 Wickedpinto - no, Garfield was assassinated shortly after taking office and was succeeded by Chester Arthur. You're thinking of Grover Cleveland, who served a term as President, then a term as governor of New York, then another term as President. He was the 22nd and 24th President.

89 It's hard to say who the Obama camp will pick since they're so retarded and out of touch. However, since they are running a cult of personality campaign, they need a VP who will extol Obama's "virtues" with abject devotion at all times, no matter how shameless and pathetic.

The only man in American politics who can possibly claim to be the king of sucking ass for TV time and the mere possibility of an increase in status goes by the name of Joe Biden.

That man can kiss like no other. I officially change my pool choice from Jimmy Carter's swollen prostate on Tuesday, noonish, to Joe Biden, whenever the hell Obama feels like it.

Posted by: runninrebel at August 18, 2008 06:38 PM (qAMnO)

90 However, since they are running a cult of personality campaign, they need a VP who will extol Obama's "virtues" with abject devotion at all times, no matter how shameless and pathetic. This is a good point. Whomever Obastard selects will be expected to slaver and support the flipflop of the day, as well as repudiate any possible previous views to the contrary of Obastard's current weathercock position on any given issue. Biden seems a good fit, right in between the nether cheeks.

Posted by: George Orwell at August 18, 2008 06:44 PM (AZGON)

91 One thing I'm sure of is that Biden is on a short list, and Obastard's henchmen are having contingency discussion about how to defuse Slow Joe's comment about Barry being a "clean" black man, if and when it comes up should The One choose Senator Hairplugs.

Posted by: George Orwell at August 18, 2008 06:50 PM (AZGON)

92 Yeah, it makes sense.

Ahhh... just want to correct one thing. When I wrote, "That man can kiss like no other" I really meant that he can kiss ass like no other, and I meant that in the metaphorical sense, of course.

Posted by: runninrebel at August 18, 2008 06:51 PM (qAMnO)

93 Although that Tim Kaine fellow showed quite an ability to commit to the rimjob with that little, "Thank you, Putin, for listening to ma man(!) Obama--and agreeing to cease fire and stuff" comment. That was pretty pathetic.

Posted by: runninrebel at August 18, 2008 07:03 PM (qAMnO)

94 One other thing Biden has in common with Übermessiah is his remarkable ability to bloviate and expand with geologically scaled verbosity upon absolutely nothing. I offer in evidence any Biden performance in a Senate hearing of any kind. Two peas in a gas-filled pod, as it were.

Posted by: George Orwell at August 18, 2008 07:05 PM (AZGON)

101

I predict Barry picks Tim Kaine, who is the only man who likes Obama nearly as much as Obama likes Obama.  I was leaning toward Sam Nunn based upon the B.'s answer to his "three wise men" question in Saddlebrook... but it's true.  Sam Nunn would accentuate Barack's empty suit status.  So I say, Kaine.

Either that, or he'll decide by an American Idol-style text message voting scheme.

And while we're on the topic, it won't be Sarah Palin who John S. McCain picks as his cholostomy bag-caddy- it'll be Charlie Crist.  I've believed it since January 29th when Crist threw the Florida primary to his pal McCain, and I will continue to believe it until it becomes a matter of fact rather than a matter of belief.

Best regards

Posted by: rabidfox at August 18, 2008 08:06 PM (AIVrP)

113 They may be further vetting Bayh somehow, but this just further makes Obama's camp look like a bunch of kids.  The whole SMS idea is just unprofessional.  Demeaning.  This isn't a fucking game.  There are men and women guarding a wall right now who want a presidential leader.  This isn't American Idol.

Bayh is a nice guy, not that I agree with him.  I am guessing it's got to be Hillary.  Obama probably wants this shock to be superstar-awesome-neato in order to garner lots of hopey changey press.  The less optimistic Obama is, the more he realizes he needs Clinton.  And he can't be very optimistic right now.

I just hope her ego and his ego are too big to be on the same stage, let alone the same ticket.

He's worried about the Midwest- Sebelius makes some sense. That said, that's a whole lot of upheaval on one ticket. That makes Kaine make more sense- he wants Virginia bad, and Kaine will likely yield him Virginia.
