NY 20- It's Over, Tedisco Concedes
— DrewM

Damn.

"This was a closely contested election that perhaps lasted a little longer than anyone may have expected or wanted," Tedisco said in a just-released press statement. "But it was important for our electoral process and for the hard-working people of upstate New York that it be resolved fairly and decisively."

"Earlier today, I called and congratulated Scott Murphy on a hard-fought contest and wished him well as the next Congressman of the 20th Congressional district. I also expressed my willingness to work with him to ensure that the families of Upstate New York are not left behind as our nation strives for economic recovery.

Murphy's lead has been growing as the absentee ballots have been counted. He's up by 400 and change at this point.

It was always going to be a tough race but it was winnable. Not ACORN's fault. Shitty candidate.

Will this be the end of Michael Steele? I doubt it. This was a Tedisco/NRCC production.

1 How the fuck do you blow a 14 point lead at the beginning of the election. Dumb Republican motherfucker. Thanks for giving it the ole' one-two Tedisco. You really put the screws to that piece of shit lib.

2 Yep

We need to go ahead and make clear that we will fight every election for as long as possible.  Even if it's not Acorn's fault, the democrats have changed the rules and fight in a way we need to match in certain ways.  Stealing votes is wrong.  But conceding elections should never occur.  Simply never.  Even if the dem is ahead by 30, we need to make clear that too much vote fraud means every election gets the fullest challenge.

4 1 How the fudge do you blow a 14 point lead at the beginning of the election.

Usually?  Negative ads.  You know, "Tedisco was accused of eating babies by a major weekly newspaper."  In this case, unforced errors on Tedisco's part too.

Still, not too bad.  For all of the crying about this being a GOP district, it elected Gillibrand twice easily and she fooled 'em pretty good.

5 I don't think there was fraud, per se, but I'd like to know the demographics of those registered Republicans who voted Dem.  Usually that means somebody is filling out great-grandma's ballot for her.

Hamburgers.

Dust off, and spring back into action in 10.

7 This really isn't that big of a deal. In all fairness, Obama hasn't had enough time for his colossal screw-ups to permeate the electorate (another story in 2010) and like others have said, the candidate was not that great. No biggie in the big picture sense.

8 Sweeney didn't help either -- but he really needs to focus on his family.

9 This candidate was John McCain on a different, smaller stage (i.e., someone we had to support, despite "reservations than a Hilton Hotel") (can I take credit for that phrase, assuming it's funny ;-). Most troubling about this election: this was pretty much after the Obama/Dem Incompetence Machine was fully up to speed. How then did this guy lose? Was he worse than a generic Republican? PLEASE, SOMEONE, SPLAIN THIS ONE TO ME.

Posted by: floofyparisparamis at April 24, 2009 10:56 AM (VKn7o)

10 Oh, I mean't MORE RESERVATIONS THAN A HILTON HOTEL....

Posted by: floofyparisparamis at April 24, 2009 11:00 AM (VKn7o)

11 (i.e., someone we had to support, despite "reservations than a Hilton Hotel")

Er, not to be overly sensitive but I'm pretty sure John McCain and Hilton jokes (it being reminiscent of the Hanoi Hilton) aren't the way to go.

12 I'm not inclined to jump on every conspiracy theory and lay blame for any and all loss on chicanery. However, I still can't get past the deliberate disenfranchisement of deployed military voters. The tactic resulted in nearly 800 military votes being discounted. I don't know if those votes would have made any difference to the outcome, but those men and women should have been heard.

13 Overly sensitive, but within character.

Posted by: Pelvis at April 24, 2009 11:24 AM (LlaBi)

14 Oh.  Hilton..McCain... I never intended that connection; just looking for a generic hotel brand.  No disrespect intended.

Posted by: FloofyParisParamus at April 24, 2009 11:52 AM (SRr22)

15 I suppose it's conceivable that many moved out of the district to escape the economic blight of Upstate New York, but wanted to hand onto their vote Upstate.  Which would make such votes all the more disgusting and stupid...

It's just as well. Tedisco was a bit of a RINO anyway. I hate what's happening to the country, but the more of these butt monkies that are in office when the public finally wakes up to how screwed they are, these guys will own it all.

McLame and the rest of the squishy GOP are why the socialists are in control now. The public will not settle for Demoncrat Lite when they can get the real thing.

I hope that Diaper Boy wins Minnesota when it's all done, too. Coleman is a semi-moron. He's for fiscal responsibility and then touts for global warming. That's about as smart as being pro-life while working in an abortion clinic.

17 No Republican will ever win these close ones, since Bush/Gore the libs are always going to find a way to dig up votes.

Posted by: ken at April 24, 2009 12:04 PM (9zzk+)

18 He wasn't RINO enough, we can't win without socialist lite candidates, Meghan says so

19 Well, since we are no longer allowed to employ naughty words in our posts, I just have to write golly gosh darn & oh bother....

20 The RNC called me today asking for money.  The woman made her plug on the basis of  "We need money to stop the radical agenda of the Democrats.  If we don't get the money, we will not be able to stop them, If they get 60 votes in the senate..."  I cut in with "It's too late, baby.  Al Franken won.  I am so sick and tired of the Republicans.  They have no guts and don't take a stand for anything.  They are letting Obama get away with all kinds of malfeasance without a whimper.  Where is Michael Steele?  He has been strangely absent as has any Republican dissent of the Democrats."  Click--she hung up on me.  We are so screwed!

21 SOROS you can always blame him. Or if you don't want to blame anybody then play the victim card. ACORN the MSM they were all against the GOP. Or voter fraud or whatever other excuse is easiest to swallow.

Actually this is no real big deal. I never expected Tedisco to do as well as he did. This isn't really after Obama has had all these problems, because a huge portion of the country HAS NO CLUE ABOUT THEM. They don't follow politics, or don't understand them/or care, they watch MSM, read local papers, and assume the noise that O is doing AOK. And, on top of that, Tedisco is Rinoish, and I guess the hardcore conservatives decided not to push hard for him. Chuck is right, hopefully the Rinos will get flushed, the people will always take pure Dem over Dem lite.

Floofy, I didn't associate your joke with the Hanoi Hilton at all. I took it to mean either Paris Hilton or Perez Hilton. No offense there, I don't think.

Just take one point since clearly all of those are fair game.  If the MSM could be proved to be filled with journalists who made campaign checks to one party, rather than the other, would that be considered evidence of bias?

June 25, 2007
MSNBC.com identified 143 journalists who made political contributions from 2004 through the start of the 2008 campaign, according to the public records of the Federal Election Commission. Most of the newsroom checkbooks leaned to the left: 125 journalists gave to Democrats and liberal causes. Only 16 gave to Republicans. Two gave to both parties.

Sorry guy, the MSM IS biased.   Pointing out the truth, is far from liberal professional victimhood.

24 fucking fucker fuckety fuck.

i'm pissed off. shouldn't have been close. dumbass fuck.

Of course, I've got Greg Ball going to go up against the Dem we have (John Hall... damn, these guys have generic names) next year... cross fingers. I handed out fliers for the Repub challenger against Hall last year, but it was almost a lost cause. Poor kid, he was probably my age. Oh well.

Anyway, I like being in NY except for all these fucking Yankees. I thought they were all moving down South (where I had left).

26 Gosh another close race and the Democrat wins. Hard to believe, really, it's just amazing how that always happens.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at April 24, 2009 06:08 PM (PQY7w)

27 The Republicans blew it. Tedisco was a TERRIBLE candidate. He doesn''t even live in the district. It was by no means inevitable that the Democrat would win, but now, with reapportionment coming, the district will become permanently Blue. It's only the Republicans' fault, starting with the appalling John Sweeney who beat up his wife and lost the seat. The Dems didn't steal this election. Pure incompetence by the Republicans. Aargh,
