New Bond Trailer

The new Quantum Of Solace trailer is up. Conservative film blogger Dirty Harry has the link and is impressed.

I was never a huge Bond fan but the most recent one and this trailer are changing my mind. It looks like all the worrying about rebooting the franchise was for nothing.

Now if they can only finish the movie without anyone else getting hurt or killed.

1 Well, the reboot is more just a generic action film and less a James Bond movie (he's not as much the character of the suave, world-knowing super agent as some guy that blows stuff up and beats people to mush) and he's still freakin' blonde, like they couldn't do something about that, but the Casino Royale movie was well made.

4 Christopher, the one thing you have to remember about Casino Royale is he just became a 00. It was the story of how Bond became Bond.

We are all used to seeing James Bond as he was in Dr. No, the first movie. But it wasn't the first movie. We knew nothing of James before that movie. The struggles, the heartbreak, what motivated him to become the suave, yet distant man he was in Dr. No.

Casino Royale and it looks like Quantom of Solace shows how Bond became those things. Yes, there is more action in these than in previous Bond movies, but all movies are heading that way. But as Daniel Craig does more of these movies, that character will hopefully develop into the Bond we know.

5 If you are not a Bond fan don't jump on the Bondwagon now. There is no room for the likes of you. We've suffered with good Bond films and plenty of bad Bond films. If you finally want to be a Bond fan after the 2-bajillionth one you can go pound sand. Maybe there is a Miley Cyrus concert you would rather take in? Hmmm?

6 Yeah I don't buy thug becoming suave, to be honest. I don't buy that this knuckle bashing action hero becomes the smooth talking stud that James Bond is meant to be. He's been Americanized, which is just weird for the character.

The same with Olga, she looks like a mail order bride. Pretty lame when you have to wear a dress cut to your navel in order to make it appear like you have cleavage.

Bond should be funny, Craig isn't, and Bond girls should have big assets, Olga don't.

12 As I said, I was never a huge fan but isn't this James Bond more along the lines of the Bond in the novels? I'm only going by what I remember hearing at some point so I am not sure that's true.

In the end, it doesn't matter if this is more faithful to Fleming's Bond or not, it's a taste thing. Since I was never attached to the iconic Bond stuff, this new incarnation is fine with me.

13 The trailer looks good--probably the first Bond movie I'll be eager see in a while. Now, is it just me, or is there a definite Bourne-ification of movies going on. Not that I'm complaining, but with the success of the Bourne franchise, it seems like a lot of movies are following the same character formulation. Or, maybe I just don't get out enough.

22 I liked old Bond but I like new Bond too; you can think that one was cool without hating the other. Personally, I think Daniel Craig is believable in the role. It makes sense that an agent at the beginning of his career would be brash and impetuous, rather than the confident, debonair charmer played by Connery et al.

Old Bond had pretty much run out of steam anyway. I don't know anyone who liked the last two or three Pierce Brosnan ones, because they'd turned into parodies of themselves. The choice seems to have been to either give up or take the franchise in a new direction, and so far I think they're doing a pretty damn good job with it.

It'll be interesting to see if they try to get Craig to grow into the role during his run, maybe ending up a bit more mature than he was in Casino Royale.

26 Craig's a damn sight better than the last two (I remember Brosnan being feted for the role in the 80s - sheesh! He was too old 10 years later!) I grew up with Roger Moore, but I'm a fan of George Lazenby in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". Maybe that's why I like Craig - he's more like that than the last two or three. Sean Connery is still the first and the best - his "bootleg" "Never Say Never Again" was SOOO much better than "A View to a Kill". Ever see Duran Duran after that? Nuff Said....

I'm not a huge Craig as Bond fan, and didn't care for the last Bond near as much as the critics did. There were plenty of good ideas and plot lines, but the problem was that it appeared that they were about to pass the acceptable time limit for a Bond movie and decided they needed to rush the wrap-up. There was nothing whatsoever to substantiate the sudden mind-numbing, death-defying type of love and devotion that Bond emoted towards the last Bond gal as they did not allow for proper character development.

As for the current gal, she's beautiful. The fact that I immediately noticed the not too subtle shading they applied to her cleavage notwithstanding. Women just tend to notice those things. Take, for instance, my first ever lesbian crush, Karina Lombard. She too, will never be confused for Dolly Parton.

When is she going to be chosen as a Bond girl?

Huh? What devotion? He was pissed off and wanted to quit his job. He wasn't sure what was up before he tried to save her from drowning. It was only later did he find out she had sold him out sort of. Then he hated her even though she did it for him.

I think Craig is easily the best Bond since Connery. Just like Batman is supposed to be dark and violent, James Bond is supposed to be a bad ass; a killer, not some fop who knows one karate chop. Craig plays him like he's a SAS type with expensive tastes instead of some trust fund dandy.

Oh, and that Russian broad is atomically hot.

36 To be honest, I like this Bond that Craig portrays much better then the other Bonds. He's more edgy. He hasn't lost the classic Bond wit, the classic Bond smarts, he isn't anything the old Bonds were, he's more. Explosions are good, too much talk is boring. I never really like the pretty-boy fruitcake Bond Brosnan plays anyways. Rodger Moore was blond, too, gentleman so lets not rag on the man's hair.
