National Guardsman Attacked [posted by Harrison]

The soldier was walking to a convenience store when a sport utility vehicle pulled up alongside him and the driver asked if he was in the military and if he had been in any action.

The driver then got out of the vehicle, displayed a gun and shouted insults at the victim. Four other suspects exited the vehicle and knocked the soldier down, punching and kicking him.

But don't you DARE question their patriotism.

9 DU is making the same sort of rationalizations, but with some interesting additions. A couple of posters have asserted that it was a drug deal gone bad or gang related. Another poster there cited an interview on KIRO 710AM that said that the victim was black. Those are some very unliberal assumptions about the victim.

14 Word has it that the Guardsman was a black guy, and the attackers all were white. Might have been a racially-motivated thing rather than an anti-military thing. (They're still pricks for doing it, don't get me wrong.)

If it was an anti-military thing...jail time, no ifs, ands, or buts. I'm a Guardsman myself, and this kind of anger and disrespect for a citizen who's just trying to serve his country is galling in the extreme. I hope they find these shitbirds and throw the book at them.

Thats also true, Wicked, had it happen to me several times when I was in. Where I live, we have a huge Navy population, and there are plenty of people that hate the fact they are here, even though the military has made this place what it is.

26 About a year ago we had an incident here in Oregon where an OSU football player assaulted a guardsman at a club in Corvallis. Turns out that one WAS racially motivated -- the (black) football player objected to seeing a white man (the guardsman) dancing with a black woman. From what I recall, the guardsman gave as good as he got, and the assailant is no longer wearing an OSU (or ANY) football uniform.
