That diva act, Jesus. You married a hundred and forty year old corpse, parlayed that into a super-impressive gig on the Detroit city council. Get over yourself. You're a gold-digging, no-account minor governmental layabout.
And you can't even put your ego on hold long enough to just say "I did wrong" to a kid.
And so, the delightful result: A kid makes you look like an even bigger assclown than you are.

That class act is Sen. John Conyers wife? Ya don't say... I like how her response is to start pointing fingers at the kids. That last girl was too smart to be manipulated with the we're all the same speech.

2) Why on earth did Conyers' aide prompt the kids to ask a question that she so didn't want to answer?

But Detroit is a different sort of place. The Conyers brand is built on paranoia and hatred. We're talking Rev. Wright levels of sickness. They want to stay in the news by acting like this. It's pretty sad for Detroit, but most people with any sense would have left D-town long ago. People like this make be awfully proud to drive a Honda.

I think Detroit would do well by canning everyone on council and replacing them with that panel of little girls..
...and give Kwame's job to Kierra

My God, if I heard right, there was a middle-school student telling a city council member, 'you're an adult, act like one'.
A small spark of hope...

This goes a long way to explaining why Detroit is fucked up beyond all repair.

I'm probably going to get clobbered for saying this, but she sounds like roughly 50% of the women (white, black, brown and green) that I have the misfortune to have to see and listen to, each and every f'ing day.
You know the ones- they sit in their SUVs, running the AC, talking on the phone, idling for forty-five minutes in the parking lot, burning God knows how many gallons of gas, and then vote Democrat because they're the ENVIRONMENTAL party.
Fuck you, you stupid fucking bitches.

Don't call names is a rule drummed into their little heads from the time they discover the word "poopy".
And trying to explain that the behavior of children is a standard for the behavior of adults "because we're all human" is just digging a hole. The *adult* thing is to own the behavior and apologize or at least be honest and say you did it on purpose to make the other person mad.
Also interesting that the kids expected there to be repercussions. They expected her to get in trouble with the "authority" she was mouthing off to. That says more about a lack of understanding of authority and power relationships and more about what it's like to be a kid in school with no power at all. I can just see those girls getting into an argument with a teacher and calling the teacher "Shrek".
Which is *also* interesting. Shrek? He was kind, gentle and a good guy all around. But he put on a gruff exterior because he was supposed to be an ogre. What was she trying to *say*?

Speaking of abusing staff, I worked for a state senator a long time ago who had staffers write his daughter's college application essays.

Matt - #39,
Correct. One of the latest signs of the city's collapse is the relocation of Comerica Bank from Detroit to Dallas.
I once took a client to Cleveland to inspect a potential real estate investment. I have never seen devastation on that scale since I drove through Dresden in Germany in 1992. There was still rubble piled high from the WWII bombings. I suspect that this condition will persist in cities such as Detroit, Cleveland and Philadelphia for many years to come.
This video shows why the future is more bleak than the past.
Last one to leave, please turn off the lights.

Kierra is one very smart girl! I give major kudos to her parents for raising a mature, intelligent daughter who is not afraid of arrogant, supercilious divas. ~ : beckyj
Hear, hear! Giving credit where credit is most certainly due. Because, as we all know, it can't be the schools that should get the credit, especially in a city like Detroit run by the likes of Mrs. Conyers. (I'm sure she isn't the only one of her ilk on the Council.)
