Law & Order Episode: Evil Pharmaceutical Companies Are Tricking Sick People Into Taking Life-Extending Drugs, Which Is Why We Need ObamaCare
— Ace

As anyone who watched, and then stopped watching, L&O knows, about ten years back the show got jaded and bored with the whole "murder" thing. The show stopped being about the murders themselves -- who cares about murder, anyway? -- and almost always turn into a liberal soapbox as McCoy went beyond the murder itself, to the real malefactors, the people whose corrupt system caused the murder due to their greed. And those Evil Republican Types became the show's real villains, week after week, as murderers were excused as being essentially dupes of "the real killers."

So here we go again. Now, we are told, the "real killers" are drug-makers selling life-extending but very expensive drugs. And we need a little ObamaCare, a little rational rationing, to keep the scourge of life-extending drugs away from an abused public.

10 Haven't watched in years.  But did you see NCIS LA last night?  I had some hopes for the series, but they really laid on thick the "right wing extremist patriot paranoid crazies are the greatest threat in the history of the universe" meme.  Another episode like that and I'm going to have to walk.

Tony's comment last week on NCIS about a shotgun wielding homeowner as "Sarah Palin" I can live with because he's consistently all about making an ass of himself.

17 As long as we give money to companies that pay for advertising on NBC, we are enabling their propaganda.  Not only does that money pay for L&O, but it all goes in the kitty to pay for MSNBC.  The solution is to boycott the local companies (in Dallas, for me) that advertise.  It has to be local, since that where the bulk of their income originates.  We need a Tea Party type effort that lets local companies know that we will take our business elsewhere.  Yes, it will take some effort, since our grocery stores, department stores, etc., advertise on all local stations, but surely someone smart can figure that out.

Why in the hell do we continue to subsidize our destruction?  Destroy them back for a change.  Just saying.

Posted by: Scott at November 18, 2009 10:06 AM (FLqES)

18 Yeah, I turned L&O off during an episode wherein McCoy got to spout off liberal talking points on gun ownership, citing the arguments of that fraudulent, discredited book Arming America by Michael Bellesailles as if they were undisputed fact. Haven't watched it since.

26 I started watching NCIS Los Angeles last night, but about five minutes in they did a sequence about EVIL patriots trying to keep out poor downtrodden illegal aliens.  And the had GUNS!  I never saw this coming for a NCIS show, but I guess I should have.  I changed the channel.  Another show off the schedule.  I won't miss it that much, despite some great characters, all the action was wildly implausible (actually, on the stupid side).

From the blogs, when "V" returns, it will have the proper Socialist pro-Obama spin.  They fired the show runner, who was responsible for the content of the first four episodes.

Pretty soon, there will be nothing to watch on TV.  Even the Discovery Channel is pimping "global warming" and socialism like crazy

28 I had the "it wasn't so bad in the early days" thing in my head until I watched the old pre-Waterston episodes on DVD over the summer.  Every other episode they bashed Justices Rehnquist, Scalia, and/or Thomas.  They really hated Scalia.  I wonder if we just forgot all that when Fred was on, lecturing the dumb blonde about how Roe was wrongly decided.

(My favorite part of the show is the slice-of-life stuff in the first minute when the bodies are discovered.  You're just walking along, nagging your boyfriend for an engagement ring, and he's poking at a dead body.  Heh heh.)

L&O sucks

Four years ago, Ace wrote a funny CSI parody. Here's a taste.

WILLOWS: There's a void over there, Greg. Why don't you see if you can figure out what might have blocked the blood-splatter?

GREG: That's a good idea. Here's a better idea. Why don't you and Sarah strip down to your panties and start boxing each other. Full contact, no holds barred. Feel free to smack each other in the poonanis while you're at it.

SARAH: Greg, I don't see what scientific purpose that serves.

GREG: I have to eliminate you as suspects.

Sarah and Willows exchange looks, then shrug. They strip down to their skivvies and begin kicking each other in the ovaries.

GREG: Oh yeahhh... oh yeahh... keep on keepin' on... I've almost eliminated you now.

There are some shows out there are for the most part apolitical.  Also South Park, despite the Glenn Beck episode, tends to tear into the left on a weekly basis.

I am kinda pissed. I remember i used to watch law and order all the time. I really liked SVU, but I stopped watching about 3-4 years ago. It probably started its leftward turn before then but it wasn't so blantant. I stopped watching when they had a bunch of transexual(etc) themed shows where they made anyone who frowns on that life choice seem like Commie-Nazis2.   It once was entertaining, but as Ace pointed out, it is another NBC outleft for left wing propaganda.

I love lectures from Hollywood, the land of the 24-hour shrinks, the Cocaine Candyland, the Surgical Mutilation Capital of the Freakin' Universe, Anorexia Central, the Casting Couch Caliphate, the Land of Fruits, Nuts, Whores & the Batshit Crazy.

That vapid little hamlet is the cradle of twisted insanity, inhuman predators, and absolute amoral hedonism, and they want to write little playlets where they can control what comes out of people's mouths in order to prove the Ultimate Truth of their Little Dogma.  Charming.

Remember 'Designing Women,' an estrogen-soaked weekly hissy-fit of Liberal indignation, where anyone who agreed with Linda Bloodworm Thomason (FOB, HAG, FAG) was brilliant, erudite, and soooo sincere, and anyone on the other side was a drooling, hypocritical microcephalic hyper-religious retard?  Liberals always win the arguments in the little realities they create for themselves, where they can make their opponents into incapable, bumbling, inarticulate fools.

Conservatives just have to be content to have that come their way in reality.

More like some tea party person commits a crime against said innocent union member.  But, its obvious that the tea party person is way to stupid and naive to do anything like this on their own.  The real villain:  a senior staffer of some Republican congressperson evilly pulling the strings.  Ending: 5 minute, impassioned speech to the tea partier on why national servitude is the best thing for everyone.  Tea partier agrees, end of show.

I think the clearest example that hollywood intentionally does this shit(as if it wasn't so obvious already) was the movie "The Sum of All Fears". It's not like they wrote the script and made a movie. They took a popular Tom Clancy novel and intentionally changed the bad guys from Muslims to ...get this..Germans still pissed about losing the second world war.  It is still the best example of Hollywood's inability to 1)be entertaining 2)make things more "real to life" c)show that certain groups will always be protected by them regardless of reality.

I wasn't into the right leaning blogs until after say 2005, so can someone answer three questions for me.

1. Why was Andrew Sullivan popular?

2. At what point did it become clear he was a statist Tory, with issues, and not an American conservative as he is labeled on TV?

3. How is his site so popular still? Who reads it? I think it is one of the more visited political sites on the web if i am not mistaken.

Okay, I understand now.  I haven't seen all the Law and Order episodes, but I never saw anything that indicated Elizabeth Rohm's character was a lesbian.  And would it have mattered?  No.

Bottom line - the show (and all it's spinoffs) suck.

We are always told, Hollywood isn't left leaning, they lean towards profits. Well this clearly isn't true anymore as evidences by all the global warming themed flops at the box office, the tv series that disappear after 2-3 episodes, etc.

I think Hollywood should take a lesson from the West Wing, a popular TV show that allowed leftist to imagine how current events would have played out had a left wing president been in the white house.

I would suggest they do a version for the right wing, it would be popular and make money, but we all know that the writers couldn't put their politics aside and the show would end up alienating the right leaning viewers more than atracting them.

If hollywood had some decent writers and studio heads they could make a fortune catering to such a large segment of the population that is dying for entertainment that reflects their values.

Also, any show, no matter what, that features a homeless Iraq vet immediately gets flipped.

Vietnam veterans are, in actuality, statistically less likely to be homeless, more likely to own their own business, more likely to successfully run for political office, more likely to be above the median income, less likely to commit suicide, more likely to exceed the average life expectancy, and less likely to be perscriped anti-depressants or diagnosed with a mental disorder then males in the public at large are.

Yet hollywood has managed to convince most of America that a vietnam vet was mostly to be, if not waving a placard and a cup mumbling about sattelites on the side of the highway, terrorizing a small rural town with serial killings and shooting up the local police force.

Even Rambo, which was otherwise an excellent movie, pisses me off in that respect.

That's the 1 thing I will under no circustamces stomach even with a show I like. Homeless vet? Fuck you, I'll watch QVC if I have to.

There is as much of an entertainment market of conservatives as there was for a news network before Fox News emerged in 1996 and addressed that niche audience of "half the country" (as Charles Krauthammer put it).  It just seems like too much of a market vacuum to remain unfilled.  We'll see.

Barely related, but I always appreciated "Criminal Minds" not going along with conventional wisdom, but actually telling the truth:

Gideon and Reid tell her that the “Stranger Danger” program that was widely shown in public schools did the most harm to the country in terms of child abduction. It taught children about the “scary man in the trench coat hiding behind the tree” instead of warning children that strangers are only a fraction of the offenders. Most people who hurt and abduct children are family members, teachers, neighbors, people they see every day.

Michael Moriarity wasn't a Republican. He made some public comments about NBC when NBC prevented a particularly controversal episode from being shown, decrying it as a violation of free speech. Dick Wolf and MM apparently had some words and Dick Wolf made an "all-cop" episode of L&O which MM took as a sign to leave.

L&O always had a liberal bent. But it seemed much more natural in the early years (we are talking about New York city here, I would expect the characters to be somewhat liberal). Now it seems full on Kos kids liberal. Though I don't watch it anymore, I get that impression, for example, when flipping through channels and see McCoy prosecuting a former U.S DA who wrote a memo clarifying the use of force in interrogating terrorists.

Even 99% of the goddamn commercials are Green/Marxist propaganda now.  Not to mention, inbetween these "good" shows, you still get the obligatory network ads, telling you what filth is coming up next, what nation-destroying garbage is coming up at the 10:00 news, what P.O.S. false gods are going to be trashing YOU and YOUR COUNTRY later on on the Late Nite Shows.  All in a funny way, of course.
