2 What are we going to do about granpa, kids? He's clearly unable to make any cognizent decisions any longer.

Posted by: mbruce at March 30, 2007 10:00 AM (LLCm9)

3 Its obvious he wants the draft, because support for the war goes to zero because the Vietnam era has made the word 'draft' one of the most toxic words of the english language.

Posted by: Sinistar at March 30, 2007 10:03 AM (bSYRF)

4 He says two things at once, he thinks everyone should serve, and that there should be a draft.  Well, not everyone gets drafted, so which one is it?

Posted by: wilkeson at March 30, 2007 10:03 AM (APBcM)

5 Ever get the impression he says this stuff just to get attention?

6 Tag that NSFW.  Cuz I see a huge boob.

8 Because who the hell is going to volunteer to go to war for a Democrat now...?

Posted by: richard mcenroe at March 30, 2007 10:25 AM (zAcDD)

9 Well, a highly educated force of idealistic volunteers is much harder to get people to despise and spit on!  You need a lot of resentful, uneducated, drug-addled, natural Democrats to work with when you set out to destroy the honor of the military.  So far Murtha has only destroyed the honor of one person - not a very good start!

Posted by: sherlock at March 30, 2007 10:27 AM (gparP)

10 Good point, mcenroe, he is the front man for trying to make sure we HAVE an armed forces at all if one of those boobs gets in the WH .

They are pushing for the draft for exactly the reasons sini stated.  Creating an environment for the draft is exactly the reason that there is false reporting about troop morale, medical care, general troop levels and training.

They are trying to exaggerate "demand" creating a "supply" deficit, allowing them to "go back to" the "citizen soldier" concept of society via conscription.

Conscript army's SUCK.  And assholes who think that creating a shitty army is the path to political success is a fucking traitor.

12 When should we do this, Septemeber 15th, what, October 12th? 2006, 2008? Ok, September 12th, 2008.

I'm sorry, I wasn't listening, did somebody call me ?

14 I have to disagree with Mr. Murtha.  Drafts are bad. They can cause pneumonia in the elderly. I don't like drafts because I wear skirts and drafts make me feel funny down there. Also I.....what? Nevermind.

Posted by: Roseanna Danna at March 30, 2007 11:32 AM (m2CN7)

15 Oh, a DRAFT, yeah, that will make us all feel safer now! Whst, did Uncle John get a big chubby after seeing "300" and decide to bring back the Citizen Soldier again?  (Hey, we got a great souc\rce of Helots, it's called "Mexico".)

Yeah, right.

Sure, take our current kick-ass volunteer armed forces and add 4 times the number of unwilling time-servers, REMFs, and trouble-makers. I don't suppose Uncle John is gonna vote for increasing the budget 4 times over to make sure there is adequate training, housing, equipment, health care, and pensions for all those new draftees?

Yeah, right!

I don't suppose all those anti-war anti-Amerikan anarchist terrorist-hugging Chavez & Castro kissing flag burning Joooo-hating goracle worshipping freaks are gonna honor their draft numbers and actually SERVE when call to do so?

Yeah, ri-i-ight!

I don't suppose a draft-inflated military force is going to be any more dangerous to our international enemies when a bunch of p****whipped cowardly f****tard Dhimmicrats are running the government?

Yeah, RI-I-IGHT!

What would we do with that sort of thing, anyway? We have enough military personnel right now to whip all the Jihadi Joes on the f*****g planet right now IF they were given a real chance. What does Uncle John want us to do, fight a war with China?

YEAH, RI-I-I-IGHT!!

CAN we question their patriotism now?

Posted by: exdem13 at March 30, 2007 11:36 AM (zr8rE)

16 CAN we question their patriotism now?

We're well past that now. The next test was questioning his sanity. Failed that one too.

The only thing to question now is his girth and hat size... or favorite color.

17 I think John Murtha and Fred Phelps can go suck each other's cocks.
I'm not in a very tolerant mood today, especially of rabid nutjobs with too much airtime. .

Uncle John

I don't like that moniker.  The greatest intellectual and human influence on my life was my aunts husband "john" so he's my "uncle john."

Can we call him "prince john" or something?  Princes tend to be small, self serving and petulant.

Posted by: Wickedpinto at March 30, 2007 12:17 PM (QTv8u)

19 Not everybody becomes a better person by serving in the Marines. I sent him a letter over five months ago telling him to shut his pie-hole, I can't believe he's still in public life! gah. Being a veteran gets you a free pass, but Murtha's pass is so overused, I think it broke in half.

Is this a proposal to draft Okinawans?

Doesn't he have any kids to check him into a home?

Posted by: Rosetta at March 30, 2007 12:30 PM (omkIU)

21 Is this the same Murtha who thinks the war is unwinnable and only wants to keep the military in Iraq so he and his buddies don't hurt themselves in the next election?

Posted by: mike at March 30, 2007 01:06 PM (/InkS)

22 Wow this is the fourth* Democrat to call officially for a draft, and zero Republicans. Don't worry, Moby will personally email college students to warn them that Republicans secretly want a draft.

*The first was actually a sort of public service requirement in the Edwards/Kerry platform for 2004 that they later deleted.

Sweet, I've always wanted to see Okinawa!  Arigato gosaimasu, Nancy!

24 Ugh.

Every time I hear some talking head say "Congressman John Murtha of Pennsylvania", I fight the urge to grimace and scream "He's from Western Pennsylvania!  Why, it's practically Ohio, for God's sake!"

Posted by: Xoxotl at March 30, 2007 02:28 PM (F/ysA)

25

Tell me about it, Xoxotl.

I grew up in his district.  He brings so much pork there that he'll never lose his seat.  After the steel mills closed, the Prince of Pork saved the economy.

He's like a thrid-world caudillo.

So, can anyone clear up for me why Penn staters didn't send him a "Dear John" letter, with all that it entails?

John, from one ex-soldier to another--go f*ck yourself.

Does that mean Eastern Pennsylvania is practically New Jersey??

28 Does that mean Eastern Pennsylvania is practically New Jersey?

No, it means western NJ is actually more like central PA.

29 If the Draft is returned the next Anti War protest at the wall will exceed 500,000, unlike the 7,000 who showed up at the wall on March 17 07, seems like there is less push to end the war when other kids are fighting in your place, kind of like the Civil War thing ,where you could buy a replacement soldier and sit this one out if you were a rich mans son. Murtha, in his prime, would not be able to fill sand bags for the new generation of American fighting troops, and if he was deployed it would be a crying shame to see a return of fragging to rotate leaders who lost the respect of the grunts. Better he get Nancy to offer 1/2 Mil. to join and 1/2 Mil upon seperation. Better still like the Brits we should consider the killed and wounded as victims of terrorist and not combat, check out the system of direct payments to the Brit, troops, after reading there plan I know why "God saved the Queen"

30 If Murtha gets the draft back on line will they put Rs and Ds at the end of each number so they will be able to ID there own for assignment State Side?, or will they be able to ID the Ds who are drafted by there absents at the induction station?. Canada would have to build a very large tent city to house all the ass clowns, it would be worse then after Katrina!!. They would have personnel at the border to rescue any lost draft dodgers stranded in the snow, easy work, they would be the ones marked in yellow!!, like the signs at the Wall carried my AWARE.. Let the draft top out at age 55, just to piss off the older set. God, Please bring back the draft in my life time.
