— Open Blog I spent some time this morning (all of 10 seconds on Google) hunting down Brendan Loys blog regarding this storm. You may recall that he had some excellent and comprehensive coverage during Katrina three years ago (and even got a little famous from it) on his blog Irish Trojan. That blog no longer exists, but hes split it up into two separate ones.
The one were concerned with for this post is called Weather Nerd. Hes got a fairly comprehensive set of links there along with a couple of updates which seem a little more hopeful concerning NOLAs impending doom.
Im trying to track down my other favorite blog from Katrina which was done by the head of security of an ISP in downtown NOLA, in a high-rise bulding, during the worst of the storm and its aftermath. If anyone can remember the name of that firm, whether they still even exist and are doing the same thing this time, please stick it in the comments so I can update this. That blog read like a thriller at the time.
Mr. Loys other, more general blog is called Ash Blog Durbatuluk, subtitled One Blog to Rule Them All. Hes an attorney, so maybe thatll keep Gabe busy for a while. If you decide to visit, try not to act like the baboons you usually are and shit all over the furniture.
Update #1 In the comments, Brass has been following Bayou Renaissance Man which looks like another good link. Keep posting them and I'll add to the list as they come in.
Update #2 Here's some more good links:
Dr. Jeff Master's WunderBlog at Weather Underground. Thanks to MesaBlue (WU is generally my go-to site for all things weather related)
NOLA.com which also did a killer job of reporting during Katrina. Thanks to SlaveDog (I didn't know Laura's pets were allowed to comment...go figure).
John Doh reminds me that the ISP firm that did the hairy-ass liveblogging during Katrina was "Interdictor" (which is also a class of Sith Cruisers from Star Wars...who knew?) It doesn't appear they're liveblogging this time. They might still have the old archives from Katrina on their site which is here. Good reading.
Update #3 More more more!
National Hurricane Center's site (NOAA) courtesy of Dave (but not the one who seems to be cursed to live in Texas)
Ridin' Gustav which appears to be a live barblog from NOLA. You can also chat with him on Yahoo if you're so inclined. Thanks to Arthur .
And from tmi3rd, a retired shrimp boat deckhand (I love the old coot), comes some local live teevee coverage in the form of WWLTV and KPCLTV. Thanks, tmi...you stay safe ol' timer!
Flashback: As I'm watching (well, sort of ignoring) current coverage on FNC, I see that Shepard Smith is currently stationed in NOLA, ready to take action again. Can Shep rise to the occasion again, along with his fellow soldiers Coop and Scar? Or have we asked too much of them? Is it fair to ask them to put their outrage on the line again, after so little time? Only three years have passed and I question whether or not the mental scars have healed, but again, they've been called to serve, uh...something.
I ask you to revisit the story of these brave men as documented by Howard Kurtz a mere three years ago.
May God help them in their trials and tribulations to come over the next few days. None of us, sitting in the comforts of our homes tonight, can possibly understand the depth of feelings and outrage and lack of make-up departments they are about to go through on these unforgiving assignments.

4 Jeff Masters at Weather Underground is a is a great source for information --linky.
WU is always a great source, regardless. I forgot they had blogs now...will add.
5 I believe the ISP in question was Interdictor,...no?
That sounds familiar. I'll hunt around, but I think you're right.

John Doh, looks like they're still around, but not liveblogging this time. As I seem to recall, the security guy (who I think was former Special Forces) moved on to another position afterwards. Like Mesa said, that was some pretty harrowing shit. Here's Interdictor's site...I'll keep an eye on it if they do start liveblogging.

Hey guys-
Something that's going to be even more fun is the disappointment on the left when they see how ably this storm is responded to. Jindal has been front and center just about every four hours; the heads of the Corps of Engineers have been doing press conferences daily; state and local officials have been crowing about how well everyone has been working together; and the individual sheriffs have been making it very clear that they are going to deal with anyone breaking curfew as swiftly and as harshly as necessary.
It's going to come ashore in Terrebonne Parish at this point- nowhere near as intense as we were horrified it was going to be- and the Westbank is going to take a beating. But this is not going to be a repeat of Katrina- that has been made ultra-clear.
The big station in town to watch is WWL-TV, the CBS affiliate. They're wall to wall, and will be until the storm is past. You can watch them at www.wwltv.com. Also, if you want SW LA coverage, I highly recommend KPLC... check 'em out at www.kplctv.com.
Okay, my fellow swamp chickens and coonasses- we will be seeing shortly what a difference a real governor makes.

Uh...actually, commenting here generally gets you put on FBI and Secret Service watch lists. But I suppose that's a sort of fame, or infamy, in its own way. So, whatever works for ya.'

Only in Laura's dreams.
Does the FBI do pets?
Anyway, back to the topic. As tmi3rd noted above, Jindal is doing a stellar job of managing the storm effort in LA. When this is all over the big story ought to be the stark difference between how Jindal handled the planning and execution of the Gustav evacuation and clean up vs. how the sobbing Kathleen Blanco collapsed.
But it won't fit the MSM/Demo Katrina History Revision agenda. Am I being too cynical?

Since the convention has been delayed this will give McCain a chance to act presidential.
So were will Barry Zero be during all this? On Vacation?

IIRC, he had a smokin hot gf.

No...the whole liberal thing is about 'inclusiveness' which means putting un-talented people into positions that demand talent. When things inevitably go down the toilet, then comes the 'nuance'.

Last I heard, McCain was considering giving his acceptance speech from Mississippi. BO was scuttling north, saying that his presence and hangers-on would be a "distraction" in the hurricane areas.
The GOP convention is paring down its activities and preparing to give all kinds of support to storm-tossed locations.
