— Ace DrewM. and I have been kicking around an idea with increasing seriousness. It's premature to write about this, as I have a lot of "ideas" that remain firmly in the realm of ideation, and there's nothing really I need from you guys now, but as I've been talking about it for an hour, might as well get a blog post about it.
With increasing seriousness, we are discussing the possibility of a right-wing blogocentric (but not blog-exclusive by any means; we'd be looking to tap into the Tea Party movement, for example) version of the Yearly Kos (now called "Netroots Nation").
My blog itself is too small in readership to support something like this (although the similarly-sized RedState just pulled it off in Atlanta), but we're thinking partner up with a lot of other blogs, pull in all that collected audience, and then see what happens, in terms of questionnaires and response rates and hard commitments.
We have a name but I'm not spilling. Nothing to do with "Ace."
The only idea I am definite on is that it is not going to be held at some dreary city like DC. It's going to be in Vegas, or Miami, or Coronado Island off of San Diego, or someplace fun like that that caters to tourists. If you've ever traveled for political stuff, you know that all too often you wind up in dreary DC in the wintertime, and it feels very much like a working vacation. Or... just work.
Basically, I think if you're paying to travel, you should be having fucking margaritas or something, not shivering your ass off in freezing rain.
We don't have a lot of of ideas besides that, except we'd try to get a few people like Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham to come and give a speech or something. Obviously we'd put the word out to big-name politicians who wouldn't mind free airfare and hotel in a destination city (and I guess an "honorarium," maybe three free drink tickets at the local Laff Factory).
And we'd have to partner up with some or other sponsor.
Who? I don't know. Chico's Bail Bonds.
I guess there's no point asking "Are you interested?" because you liars will all say you are, like you said when I asked if you really wanted t-shirts. (Kidding...)
Just tossing it out there.
Oh: What I do need is for people who can add credibility to this to say "Yeah, I'd probably come" without actually offering a commitment. Like name-type people. Like, just so we can use your name to get other suckers to commit to coming.
Like Fred Thompson.
You don't even have to mean it. Just let us claim it.

"Coronado Island off of San Diego"
COOL! You can stay at my house Ace. Don't mind the off-putting smell, it's that darn sausage factory on the other side of the bay.
I'll vote for Coronado now. The local populace would be about as supportive as you could ask, that and my travel time would be reduced to about 3 minutes.

We could get all radical and host a power-to-the-people rally and turn the Kelo landsite into a Jamboree location/Campsite - make it sort of a "RECLAIMaPalooza" sort of dealio.
It'd be the perfect storm of tea-partiers, libertarians, and your garden-variety conservative moron-commentors.
You'd need about a half dozen porta-potties, a couple of hot dog carts, and it'd be all set.
A Burning Man for non-Hippies
Woodstock without the Mud
... the Daytona 500 without the loud cars
It'd be perfect ...
plus ... my recollection is that this Kelo decision took place somewhere in the Florida Space Coast area which would be great weatherwise.
~cough~

One point might be to have someone explain how we take back local politics in our areas. Ace brought this up in a thread recently, but I think it is something that conservatives need to focus on.
The liberals have been quietly infilitrating every area of local government for years and we are now seeing the repercussions--questionable election results in places where the head of elections are a votable position and have a Democrat in that position, local laws being made that eventually filter up to state wide, I don't know stuff like that but that's off the top of my head.

Vegas for the cheapness and tons of good food. Plus crowds to hide in.
San Antonio for the weather, unless we wait until spring.
Actually if you don't mind flying to SA and going further out in the hills, the YO Ranch would be a great place to have a quiet conservative party. Actually a really loud one. The Dallas Arms Collectors have their machine gun shoots there. Not the cheapest of options, but can't beat the privacy. Plus the food is awesome.
New Orleans, not a bad choice, but kinda cold and rainy until springtime. Nashville, same problem, and I live an hour from Nashville unless it's a work week.

Yes, we Moronettes would have to be the ones to determine the male speaker lineup, attire requirements, and performances.

Please excuse the O/T, but this reminds me of a favorite joke:
A Brit, a Frenchman, and a (insert enthic group of your chosing here) are talking about 'the best bar in the world.'
The Brit says "I know of a bar in London wherein if you purchase two drinks, they buy you a third on the house."
The men agree that this sounds like a wonderful place.
The Frenchman says "howeverrr, I know of zees place where you buy a glass of ze wine and zey buy you un autre. When again you buy ze wine, zey buy you un autre."
Again there is agreement that this is an outstanding establishment.
The (ethnic inserted again here) says "I know a place where they buy you a drink, they buy you another drink, and another and another, then they take you out back and get you laid!!!"
The men are taken aback, and one asks "Did this happen to you?"
(Ethnic inserted) replies "no, but it happened to my sister!"

I'd recommend that not only the Right Wing Nut Hullabaloo be held in a Fun Place, but also a flagrantly liberal place, if only to maintain a nice crisp definition around the edges. Like San Francisco. That would create a predictable firestorm of publicity locally and nationally, thereby hijacking the liberal media to carry the conservative message.
Encourage the loony left to protest you. In fact, you should set up a sideshow outside to let the unhinged left attack conservatives for money. In fact, you could have somebody dress up in this body armor they use in self defense classes, red armor if they have it, and put a Bush rubber mask on him. Put a big banner over the attraction called "Kill Bush" and charge the lefties five bucks for a one minute session of beating on him. Maybe you could provide a padded club. Then you can videotape it or invited the local media to tape it. The visuals will make the lefties look like violent goons. It's Media Ju Jitsu: letting the lefties make fools of themselves.
You could invite the Right Brothers to play inside, with their signature tune, "Bush Was Right." Take a look at it on YouTube. Maybe you could showcase some conservative comedians. Dennis Miller could headline. Ann Coulter would be good, too. Get some shoutouts from Fox News shows. Make sure you have something inside that will make a good visual for the news. Maybe something along the lines of what they show on The People's Cube, attacking the lefty's ideas with mockery.

And I do see merit in supporting a red state economy if we do this. As fun as it would be to taunt the liberals out in, say, San Fran, I really don't want my capitalist pig dollars going into their granola-crunching-rim-jobs-for-all economy. Not to be snide, but Clipper Ships are oceangoing vessels traveling under sail, and unlikely to be good for a river. Much maneuvering required to harness wind.
Paddlewheels/powerboats/barges=good for traveling up a river. Also, they have the added bonus of being politically incorrect.

Actually, I think if you did it right, could be of some value. If nothing else, if you offer up a location, you can get national groups to promote a variety of conservative issues to show up and increase their membership. Plus, these national groups may be willing to cough up some jack for booth rental, so it helps underwrite the entire experience. Also, if you did a legislative update on certain key issues on a state by state basis, would have some value to the morons and moronettes who live in those states.

If it's too far left or right coast it wouldn't be affordable for a number of your readers...something to consider when choosing a venue.
Split the difference and pick somewhere close to the middle of the States big enough for airfare to be cheap. That would be better than the extreme locations on either coast. Texas would work for me but I'm biased because it's close. Kansas City, St Louis, NOLA..
And if you had it in Vegas, people would come but you'd NEVER see them. None of your readers would make it past the hooker-packed lobby to get to the meetings.
I'd go depending on the location; I'd need some of your more normal posters as bodyguards to protect me from the vast number of douches who might hold grudges off-site.
And I still have my AoS t-shirt. That's right, the person who gets accused of trolling in EVERY thread owns one, and it's in pristine shape. I've worn it twice; once for a picture for Ace and once at an SF con.

I think it's a great idea, actually, esp. if you could get her to judge it. First prize could be a kiss on the cheek.
Barbelle - she needs a new haircut too. It's looking too stringy. She needs to add layers.
I work with someone with the same hairstyle and Coulter's height. It's a little distracting when I come up behind her to talk and she tosses her locks over her shoulder when she turns. I expect her to say, "Sean, it's because those liberals can't be honest without losing the American people..."
So yeah, I wouldn't mind if at least one of them would change their hair.

The problem with San Diego is CPAC was just in Newport Beach. I don't think you will get conservative bloggers excited about going some place many have just been too. If you could get Fiorina/Devore to debate it might be a different story though but Fiorina wouldn't even go to CPAC.

I'm suffering under the obamaconomy and really hoping we can hold it near NC or SC. Many may see the HendersonvillePost.com as just a drudge of all the right news sites, but if you read me enough you can see that I do have some original ideas, and i'm hoping to get kudos for having almost run the NY Times owned print media out of my town...they moved printing out of state rather than buy a new press.
I will need solid contacts, the next target is the next door county who's paper is owned by Gannett. I could also teach a class on how to create an online start up to draw people away from liberal print media in small towns. You can follow me on Twitter at HVLPost and the for Facebook fan page just search Henersonvillepost.com on FB.

Donors could also make a "general" donation to the foundation and those funds could be donated to blogs who might be considered important but undergoing some hardship or whatever at the discretion of the foundation. The idea being that a person who is, say a union member, might support a blog that they don't want their name associated with for reasons of their job or physical security.

I have been to DC several times because the liberals and republicrats can HEAR me there. They can't hear me hundreds of mile away. Since you want to make the events FUN, and with lots of drinking, you should become a politician. They can throw you the kind of shindig you are looking for.

Yes! I don't know why my parents took us there except it was, cheap, close and "educational". It was also a popular (with the teachers) school field trip (we kids preferred Hart Park). The monkeys were the worst. You just knew they hated you. I also rode the elephant.
