This reminds me of those corporate "team building" seminars so popular in the 90s. You know, where they had you break off into little groups to engage in some sort of consensus.
I still wake up in cold sweats from nightmares about those.

"team building" when I was in the MC consisted of the most senior NCO embarassing the entire platoon.
"team building" when I was on an assembly line, consisted of our boss buying the first round of drinks
Both, very affected methods.

for some reason, from watching that youtube clip I'm reminded of that scene near the end of the 80s movie "Windwalker" where the old Indian has been laid to rest on the funeral pyre by his son and other loved ones who are standing around.
The son says a few words and tosses the torch onto the pile and the flames start to lap the branches that are supporting the old Indian... at which point the old man wakes up screaming and on fire and he jumps off the platform runs until he dies.
That was "Windwalker, the Director's Cut" by the way.
anyway, that's what that youtube clip reminded me of.

question? I like star wars, it was one of those classic movies that affects a young childs like, especially a young boy, but? What is it with the fucking battarants?
In "A new hope" look has a battarang on his utility belt.
In empire, the fucking fighters have batarangs that they use to trip the walkers, and then he has to strip his gunners dead body to get a fucking batarang, so he can throw a thermal detonator into another walker?
Then, In "phantom menace" amadallah and her entire security force, uses batarangs to scale 2 stories of the palace to save naboo.
What is it with batarangs?

Me too, ombudsman, Ted Olsen would have been a great A.G. Yes!!
I went to the Smithsonian travelling 9/11 exhibit a few years ago when I was on a business trip to Kansas City. They had the phone Ted Olsen recieved Barbras's her call on 9/11 asking what should she tell the pilot? What should they do?? It touched me to tears to just see that phone. That and this pair of high heels from an office worker in Tower 2 on the 86th floor or something who had come down all the flights on them. As a girl-that really impacts you-those 4 inch heels. She said-she never realized she was in high heels until days later when she saw they were worn down about 2 inches...

You think their willingness to get together once in a while and figure out how they can push their political desires on their elected officials a bit harder might have had something to do with it? Yep, they whine and fantasize, but they also come out of there with a sense of purpose and a direction to work politically until the next meeting.

A press that functioned as the propaganda arm of the DNC, coupled with a GOP candidate that failed to deliver a cohesive and easily understood message? That might have had something to do with it.

Jimmie, WP's right. We hit the perfect storm this election- awful candidate, incumbent party, unpopular president, financial meltdown, a kneepad-clad media in the tank for The One. I hate that we lost, but considering those factors, I'm actually encouraged that we only lost by 6 points. We just need to focus and get back to work
</blockquote>
I'm not buying it. While we were all sniping at the other candidates, McCain ended up as the last one standing. That's our fault for not getting together and figuring out which candidate was going to carry most of our values to the Oval Office.
We won in 2004 despite the MSM in the tank for Kerry, a terrible incumbent party, and an unpopular war. This time around we had the surge to ram down their anti-war throats and we failed. We have Jeremiah Wright and we failed. Ditto Michael Pfleger, Bill Ayers, Bernadette Dohrn, Rashin Khalidi, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, et. al. We failed because we couldn't get our shit straight and they could.

I had a colleague who thought that the airport security procedures would be relaxed under a Democrat. Ha! Obama will do anything to keep from having a terrorist attack on US soil after Bush had been successful for 7 years.
All of this stuff that they hated about Bush -- stuff that made Bush immoral and evil -- well, Obama either will actively continue it or at least not do anything about it.
As we all know, it depends on the party, though. Obama will be "thoughtful" because he's "smart" donchaknow.

It's amazing how stupid that "smart" people are.
Something I noticed about myself some time ago, but am completely unapologetic about, is that we all refer our knowledge based on our own experiences, thats why I always have "when I was in" stories and shit.
The problem with the academicly trained and minded people is that the majority of their experiences (at least the new ones) are sterilized mean nothing concepts, rather than actual experiences, that they learned in classrooms rather than in life.
When you have a 19 year old talking about war, you have to realize whether that 19 year old is in their second year of college, and speaking of what they learned in a book, or if that 19 year old is a young corporal who had to shoot fuckers, before they shot them.
They are both 19 year olds, but who's story are you gonna give credence to?
Most of the left, and portions of the right aren't from the school of real experience, but among the intelligensia who thinks that real life is just a gameboard upon which theories can be tested, meanwhile, the rest of the world actually has to deal with the realities of life.
Thats why the left sucks.

JarvisW, an open primary election is where the voter declares his or her party at the time they vote. A voter registration card in an "open" state will not have a party listed. In a "closed" state, one's party is printed on the voter's registration card. If someone wants to vote in a different primmary in a closed state, they have to change their registration within the statutory limit for registering. I live in an open primary state. I have voted in nearly every Republican primary since 1970. The only Democrat primary that I ever remember voting in was in 1980 when I voted for Kennedy against Carter. In the election I voted for Reagan.
I think you were thinking about a "winner take all" primary.

Excuses. Blue states didn't cull conservatives out. Conservatives did. Romney's Mormonism. Thompson's lack of "belly fire", whatever the hell that is. Giuliani's RINOness (yeah, tell me you wouldn't have taken him over McCain).
We sat around and nitpicked while those people in that meeting, and plenty others just like them, sat in their living rooms and worked out how to clean our clocks. Today, we're still nitpicking and they're gearing up for 2010 and a nice, clean sweep.
You can either whinge about the MSM or blue states or whatever convinces you that the loss was none of yours or you can, in the words of Vito Corleone, act like a man.

# 77 Arrested development on a scale of millions.
Exactly. But it is still a mystery to me why so many have never been forced by life to grow up. I think many of these people's formative years were spent following the Grateful Dead around acting the fool. And there is a nagging feeling inside them that their whole life has been based on a gigantic fraud, but they've invested so much in it that it is too painful now to admit they are wrong. I saw Peter, Paul and Mary recently on an interview. Depressed and depressing, the regret on their faces was palpable as they muttered cliches about how instead of making any money, they had contibuted to society. Justifying wrecked and empty lives is so burdensome. (Sura 2:29)

As for party honchos, well, we may not have that much control over them as individuals, but if the blogs would start to complain, and propose alternative plans then we (Conservative voters) could voice our opinions on those, and if they don't listen, they will continue to loose elections, and eventually be in chage of a party of no one.
Either way, whatever. I want a viable 3rd party, and thats a whole other can of worms that has nothing to do with this topic.

Jimmie: we have no more control over our candidates than we do over our primaries. All this "we" didn't do the right thing is utter bullshit. "We" did exactly what we should have done: vote for the best man for the job. There were no truly good candidates in this race, just as the Democrats had no decent candidates in 2004.
Truth be told, the Dems didn't have any decent candidates THIS time, either. But when you have somebody who pisses off the Conservative base AND is less exciting than drying paint, you're set up for failure. Kerry did this in '04. Despite Bush's missteps, he was STILL more lively and appealing to the public.
And if you're an American, spell like it: "whine." Damn Limeys.

My favorite part may have been the "forming of the counsel" debate. Liberal Guy: "We're going to form a "Counsel"....Old Hippie woman on the floor: "No we're not." Guy: " if you want to sign up for the counsel we're passing a sign up sheet around" Hippie: "We signed it but it's not for a counsel"
That's good stuff.

And while I'm ranting: forget the 3rd party crap, Jarvis. Parliamentary systems have many parties that join together in coalitions. Presidential systems have many parties that join together on one of two sides. When people start abandoning a major party to form a 3rd party, they merely lose the ability to hold the major party away from silly B.S. like "Compassionate Conservatism."
Stay and fight for control or abandon the Republicans to be Democrat-lite and leave the nation in the hands of the Left. Your call.

I jammed my own thumb in my eye and lacerated my cornea at work while telling a joke.
I was cleaning my weapon, and my PltCom was right next to me (everyone thought I was about to explode at anytime, really, it was wierd that people would worry about one of their most talented, in a way that is really a bit offensive to the person they want stuff from) and while cleaning your weapon, you are also supposed to inspect, and oil your bayonnet (yes bayonnets are marked, and are specificaly assigned) and recommend any sharpening, or request honing or whatever(almost never an issue) Well, as a kid I owned a lot of knives, a LOT, actually had a small collection of authentic swords and shit, so knifeplay was a cakewalk for me.
The flip of course, the twirls the walks, the high tosses and the snap (where you flip the knife so fast and hard, it doesn't leave the horizontal axis, and then catch it at the handle) the blade ballancing shit. Stuff like that.
Well, as soon as I removed my bayonett from the sheath for inspection, my PltComm sorta flinched, thinking I was gonna do something crazy, and I kinda laughed, and while staring him in the I I started to demonstrate some of my knife skills, without looking at either my knife or the hand.
He kinda laughed when I was done apologizing for his initial reaction.
about 10 minutes later, I had to remove the cotter pin from the bolt assembly to remove the firing pin. I was a brutal nailbiter at the time, so I couldn't remove the pin with my fingernails, so I used my bayonet.
Now here comes the extraordinarily stupid part.
as I removed the pin the pin started to bounce and fall off the table, so what did I do? well, I didn't wanna lose the pin, cuz that fucker is small, so my right hand (holding a sharp and rather heavy knife meant for the killing of other human beings) reached out to stop the pin from falling off the table, and therefore leading to me on my hands and knee's looking for a small pin, and in the process, cut off about a quarter of an inch of my left index finger.
Man, that was stupid, there I am bleeding like a stuck pig, basicaly unable to move cuz I was so humiliated at how stupid what I just did was. The PltComm was cool about it and simple said something like "I think that was a very bad excercise of judgement." But the poor fucking people who had to look at me, as I had blood flying out of my finger, and especially the armors were kinda horrified.
I don't even know how I ever thought that might have been a reasonable action, let alone rational.

That actually reminds me of a non stupid story locus.
Had a friend, her name was colleen (might have changed it, what with all the calling and occasional running car outside her front door, and stuff) and her dog, before he passed, used to choose gum.
NOONE! was allowed to chew gum in her house, cuz the dog always wanted gum if he saw humans chewing it.
She would occassionaly go out, and give the dog a whole stick of bubble gum (not as in one stick, as in WHOLE stick, all 5 or 6 pieces) and there's her dog just numming on the fucking gum like nothing. And he didn't eat it, he just chewed it, and then wold spit it out in his water bowl.

I started working in a bike shop and when things would fall of the bench I would try to catch them on top of my shoe. That is a great game to play when working with stuff under 5 lbs. Later on my new job required working with flanges of 45lbs or more. Thank the lord my reaction time was poor the first time I tried catching one of those. Today my feet fly back not forward for all things that roll off the bench.

It would be funny if it wasn't so creepy. Look at history and the cult type followers that were produced that did awful or stupid things to themselves or others.
They aren't going to "figure out" of "find out" anything. These are the kind of followers of Jim Jones and Haley Bopp that took their own life rather than face one iota of truth or common sense. Their life is empty and looking for meaning or to belong. It really is a cult mind

Far more damaging was the massive push by the MSM to push Obama and bury the slightest negative, added to the immense incompetence on the GOP side for years leading up to the election.
At what point did the GOP get really confrontational on meaningful issues in a place it couldn't be buried? What a difference it could have made if Bush had mustered the balls to give a speech laying out the huge amount of malfeasance by the left in causing the financial meltdown! Just lay out the facts, including, oh by the way, which candidate litigated for the people pushing for more bad loans to be handed out to people who would never be given the time of day by a bank not compelled by irrational feelgood laws.
If anything, these worthless fools should illustrate how badly the GOP screwed up. Because they didn't lose it to these idiots. THey lost it to themselves and their failure to fight.

Like my slamming my fingers and thumb in the trunk of my car, and then bleading all over my car as my friends and roommates asked me if it hurt, and my response was "like a motherfucker" later we agree'd not to talk about it.

I was 2881, 5911, 6341, one of my major jobs (other than shredding and burning shit) was soldering under a microscope.
While I was in class learning out to be a 5911 (the soldering job) I'm staring at a card under the microscope, looking at the next thing I had to fix, and I smelled something.
I turned to the person at the desk next to me, who happened to be one of my best friends.
"Whats that smell?" I said.
"you know, I didn't notice, but I smell it now, what is that?"
"thats why I asked you."
what was it?

He's a car kinda guy, and his dad had a stick welder, and we were in metal shop together.
Buddy didn't clean the surface well enough while we were in metal shop, so he starts to weld a rough surface, and his stick . . . well, sticks. Buddy was so irritated, that when he gesticulated, he dropped his glove, and grabbed the stick with his bare hand.
The stick stuck to his flesh, and he spent the whole time on the way to the school nurse (and later hospital) bitching about how he hated his gloves.
no tears, no screams, just bitching and moaning.

Because Obama is so frightening, everyone seems to forget just how FAR LEFT the Hildabeest is!

Of course. But what this new establishment cannot conceal is that it doesn't represent "change" of any sort, the mantra pounded out via the message machine that was Obama/MSM. A significant portion of the ignorant middle, if not even ignorant extremes, were sold on something new. "New" ain't happenin' and a return to the Clinton hacks hammers that home. Even some of the ignorant masses will be able to pick that up and the Right can exploit it... if it's smart.
Doing the smart thing, however, could still be problematic. But it could be worse. Obama could still be moving Lefter with the MoveOn crowds' urging, with his natural philosophy, and with the blessing of a peaceful, sharing planet. Reality, though, is whacking The One upside the head right now and he's not running Left as much as he's measuring his steps. The financial crisis and terrorism are but two of the contemporary events that will force Obama to reassess if not actually adopt some of Bush's current policies. MoveOn/Code Pink/Kos/etc. will remain sidelined however they shriek which is actually a bit surprising at this point. I consider that a positive though unexpected development.

No not hurt. I just feel like I've missed my calling and that I was born to kill evil mf's that mean my fellow americans harm. I enlisted the day after the Lebanon embassy bombing. Had the honor of serving under President Reagan.

Your only really a pussy if you won't show up for the fight. When the other guy won't show up it just means you are that badass. And the guys that showed up on Osamas side for the current fight with the marines are just dumbass.

I was 95-99, and I say it all the time, and it pisses my brother (a zoomie) off when I say that my biggest regret is leaving.
I had/have panic/anxiety attacks because of 9/11.
And seeing these new guys suffer, makes me think to my self that I should have filled that spot so that they didn't have to.
It hurts, a lot, at least for me.

even while I was in, I didn't wear the blues in public, though I had some shiny blues (most decorated in fact in my company, no shit, and I didn't have a GCM, I just had a lot of floats, deployments and a NAM, my shit was shiny!) well once I wore my alpha's in public, that was my first ball, when my mother was my date. but other than that never wore my blues in public, I would always leave the ball and change.
Marines are Marines, and it's an inside thing, it's a special gift, random people aren't allowed to see it was my attitude.
No shit, My last day in the MC, was the ball, and my commander signed my discharge papers at midnight at the ball, and first thing I did after the papers were signed, was change my clothes, and later I'm sitting at a bar with a bunch of my friends, we all have the high and tight, some of us had the horshoe (I had the horshoe, even though I have a beany head) and I wasn't in uniform, some stupid twat asked me, if I knew "those guys"
FUCKING OF COURSE I DID YOU STUPID BITCH DON'T YOU SEE THE HAIRCUT!?!?!

My point is you are not alone even in the panic attacks.

no shit, I built a tertiary libary for my platoon, and all of the senior staff and even the pltComm was irritated, because in comes this kid, with a court-martial (I was CM'd btw) and he has a shitload of the enlisted, and more than a fair few of the officer recommended reading list for my branch, and everyone started competing buying other books, and pushing "reading groups" and "active learning" and shit.
One fucking 22 year old kid kicked these old timers (they were all oaf 15 years older than I was, which is an eternity in the service) into a hyperactive education attitude.
BOOK REPORTS!!! FUCKING BOOK REPORTS! were mandated! (I was the training clerk, so . . . .well you get it.) by my bosses, later, we started to have map comparissons, where we had to create strategie's based on classic battles.
Really! No REALLY!!!
My platoon filled with pogues had to do strategy hypotheticals.

I never served. My generation fought the first gulf war, but I didn't even think about it at the time. I wasn't informed enough to let me know it was important. Even tho I was a big WWII buff, and was in ROTC for one year in High School (they let us shoot GUNS under the SCHOOL!!! Marksman btw lol) I had other things to do. Mainly party too much. Anyway, once 9-11 happened, I checked into joining the reserves or guard, and found out (like someone said above) that they didn't want Asthmatics. I want to do something to help, I just dont know what. Except keep a small arsonal.
Anyway, my story...
I was at Twin Peaks ( a Hooters type place) watchin the Cowboys game and a Private in his Dress Blues came outside to hang with his friend while he smoked a cig. He wasn't very tall but was standing inbetween the TV and me. After a minute he turned around and saw where he was and said "Oh sorry, can you see, should I move??" Well, if it was anyone else, I would have politely said, "excuse me" or something, but he wasnt in the way, and two, he was just outta boot camp, and I knew what he was going to have to do, so even tho I'm a huge Boys fan, I would have let him stand there all night in my way, and would never have said a thing. I have too much respect for you guys. Anyway, I said no, and told him "You guys kick ass! Tell all of them that when you get back!" He just sheepishly smiled, and said thanks, but I meant it, anyone who servs rules in my book!!!

100% completely and true story.
My bro was in the first gulf, and my family, at least my fathers side, is very martial.
My school gave us a day off, so we could protest the gulf war.
NO FUCKING WAY that was cool.
a couple friends and I literaly brought sleeping bags and we SLEPT at the entrance of my highschool.
Every other protester who hated America got attention, but these 5 or 6 kids SUPPORTING the troops, were ignored.
That is 100% no shit.
BTW was suspended the following munday for saying "you aren't man enough to serve, like my brother."
again, 100% no shit.
I was suspended for protesting the protest to the war. NO SHIT!

I was in a 6th grade class, and the teacher wanted us to do a anti gun paper. I did a pro 2nd amendment one that was just as good and had as many points of argument as any of the anti papers did. Well she saw that paper and gave me a C- while all the Anti papers got at least Bs.
I knew then that I was up agenst something weird, and at crossways to what I grew up with. (Dad was Navy pre Nam, and taught me how to shoot at age 10)

Jarvis?
when your very life/job consists of doing one of the most despicable acts that humanity almost always condemns, you tend to be noble.
Marines are the modern day knights, because their life is learning how to execut the most horrible of acts, so in compensation, they become the most courtly of individuals.
I know, I was a Marine, and you can even ask MCPO Airdale.
Marines tend to be nice, it's the Navy you have to watch out for.

I just haven't come up with anything I can use so far. I will someday, and hope you all will like it.
I comfort myself just a bit that I read the blogs every day, and make sure I know what is really going on out there. So I may not serve, but I am a step ahead of the rest who don't. (I hope)

I am not surprised that there was no Black faces in that group. The liberals/leftists/Socialists love "people of color" as long as they (Blacks) do not build low income housing in their (White) neighborhoods. For all their liberalness (is that a term?) none of those Upper West Siders (assume that they are living in the West 80's for a moment) would consider moving a mile and a half up the road to Harlem (despite parts of Harlem becoming trendy) to prove their liberalism.
Yes if Leroy, Jamal or Malcolm showed up at the party they would have called the cops on them and the Susan Atkins lookalike with the finger in the air would be screaming.

Scipio,
You are right on about, NIMBY liberals. They love public housing in blue collar neighborhoods, but don't let "them" move within a mile of their homes. The only non integrated neighborhoods in Charlotte? The rich ones.
My neighborhood "Watch" even sent an email telling you not to answer the door in a Black showed up and call the police if you see any walking the neighborhood that don't work for you.
She went on to say the "they" were so desperate now that we would have to be on our watch constantly.
Hope and Change!!

You don't understand. Black neighborhoods are only for visiting for two hours in a lifetime to pick up trash and paint swingsets before retreating to gated suburbia with a cathedral-sized sense of self-satisfaction in tow.
We've got capitalism and Christian charity -- the two vehicles which have lifted more people out of poverty than every other man-made contraption combined -- and they've got an objectively unworkable command-and-control scheme that directly contradicts immutable human nature and token, useless, feel-good gestures with no positive affect whatsoever on the behaviorial pathologies that produce urban decay and decadent "poverty" in the first place.
But, remember, they're the compassionate ones. Because no number of lives is too great a sacrifice to fight the adoption of the highly successful methods of their ideological enemies.
Posted by: VJay at November 30, 2008 07:55 AM (k87Wm)
Nothing funnier then liberal whites coming up with pathetic rationalizations for moving out of neighborhoods when their kids have to go to school in majority non white school districts. Listening to their verbal contortions is hilarious. Never do they admit the real reason - fear that Susie or Bobby would get mugged by their classmates.
The problem with the great state of North Carolina is that too many Northern liberals (fleeing the consequences of their liberal voting for liberals i.e high taxes, bad business environments, poor schools, high crime) are moving there and taking their liberal politics with them. I was actually thinking abut retiring to North Carolina but at least I am not a liberal voter so I should be an asset to that state.
