— DrewM After noticing that McCain's energy plan made no mention of the cap and trade system and a conversation with a campaign official, Larry Kudlow at NRO seems to think so.
So then I asked this senior official if the campaign has taken cap-and-trade out behind the barn and shot it dead once and for all buried it in historys dustbin of bad ideas. The answer came back that they are interested in jobs right now jobs for new energy production and jobs from lower taxes. At that point I became satisfied. Even though a McCain presidency might resurrect cap-and-trade, it will be a much different format. More important, the campaign is cognizant of the conservative rebellion against it.
Kudlow pronounces himself satisfied. Me? After McCain's 'lessons learned' spiel on immigration and his "glad to examine" ANWR and Juan Hernandez dodge, I'm not entirely sold but it's a start.
I'd like to see McCain out on record saying cap and trade is off the table and why. This way if he does try and resurrect it in the future we can remind him of what he said.
Still, it's nice to see that the Republican nominee might have come around to the idea that heavily regulating the economy in the name of global warming is not a good idea. Thank heaven for small mercies.
UPDATE: Apparently reports of McCain's sanity on this issue were greatly exaggerated. Marc Ambinder reports:
Jill Hazelbaker, McCain's communications director, calls the notion that McCain is abandoning or minimizing his support for cap-n-trade "totally false."
Well, that was fun while it lasted.

McCain announces that drilling in ANWR is essential to preserve a degree of energy independence for national security reasons...
...but since Americans are such candy-asses, the oil companies can only hire Mexicans to go up there.

You can always use that famous Ronald Reaganism:
Trust, but verify.

I fear I do not think he has actually re-thought cap-and-trade or any other "Man is much more able to affect Earth's temperature than the Sun or any other non-human influence" silliness or turned to "Hey, getting electricity and potable water world-wide will not only be more effective but cheaper!" No, just advised it's boring.

Mitt Romney was on CNBC Squawk Box this morning and said that McCain was willing to look at drilling ANWR. I've been waiting to see if McCain would throw him under the bus (plenty of room under there, unlike Barry's) but haven't seen anything yet.
Is this the beginning of a more aggressive stance on the one issue that he could kick the shit out of the Messiah with? I have my doubts.

"Because this time when the politician hooker said what I wanted to hear she loved me I really believe she meant it... This time it's for real not just for votes money."
I'm a bit sad that your political analysis matches my relationship analysis so closely. I suspect both of these will have a comparable outcome.
Impoverished, disappointed, dissatisfied and wondering how it all went wrong again. Probably a burning sensation as well if I'm any judge of either hookers or acid-reflux causation.

If that's all it took for Larry's satisfaction then he's in full-blown rationalization/straw-grasping mode. I will state that should McCain drop both his anthropogenic global cooling warming climate change and his US anti-sovereignty agendas then I'll drop my "no way in hell is that McCain asshole getting my vote" agenda.
Think that will happen before November?

Another take on this is that Team McCain has finally grasped the reality that kicking potential donors in the balls while asking them for money is a big reason why their coffers are running dry.
On the presumption that it's working, I will continue my plan of sending the McCain campaign zero dollars per week, for an annual contribution of the McCain-Feingold approved minimum of zero dollars, until he gets his head out of his ass on this issue and immigration.

No one really cared about this issue other than pols and the netroots and now that prices are 4 bucks a gallon they care even less.

And that, my friend, is money that can safely be used for Valu-Rite and hobo spears now and at any point in the future as my head has remained, remains, and will remain as firmly deposited as your pocket change.
You don't really think I'm trying to win, do you?

Aside from getting pwned, I'm amazed that Kudlow took that non-answer as an answer to his direct question.
Did I say amazed? I meant amused.

Here we go again - back to the times when Republicans were happy just to get some of the crumbs that fall off the table like the Republican minorities in Congress used to do before the '94 takeover. The only problem is, the conservative pundits seem to be happy with the crumbs from the table of our own nominee!
There ain't enough Valu-Rite to help me deal with this. And I get a minimum 2 appeals for cash in the mail every day, plus the obligatory kick in the 'nads. The only good thing is that I can stay home & vote via early mail ballot so I can apply the vise grips to my nostrils as I vote for Juan out of desperation. This blows....

I'd also be happier if Nikki Cox said she was dumping her husband to come live with me... but reality isn't designed to make me happy.

It made me think about McCains bipartisan evil perception by die-hard opponents, figuring past the obvious for a moment to see something obvious that everyone has neglected to admit. [Leave his warts out of the following discussion as we all see them.]
McCain has proven the middle ground extent that ANYONE can get from the present Congress in legislation. McCain has exposed his foes as well as his friends extent to which they will meet any bipartisan (aka RINO/DINO) agreement. Whatever his frustrations at not being appreciated for the work that it really did take to accomplish all of those McCain/Democrat bills (their intrinsic value per content aside), McCain not only proved that he can work with democrats to get things accomplished (recall that McCain began from the middle in all of the negotiations that ultimately were compromised as is the nature of Congressional legislation) but that McCain has done EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to get Congress functioning! McCain has given this Democrat Congress EVERY OPPORTUNITY to prove their worth to Americaand the DEMOCRATS FAILED!
Whether he will or not (pray for epiphany and conservative renaissance), once elected, McCain can extend the olive branch to the Democrats not from the middle but from right of center. The Left had its chance to make good for America, and they failed.
If elected, McCain has his chance (from RIGHT OF CENTER as per his constituent votes and as per logic dictates) to appoint Cabinet Members like Forbes, Romney, Thompson (all against cap and trade lunacy) who can manage affairs they know best and he knows least, allowing McCain to defend America against terrorists with all of his attention, as that does require all of a president's attention now. He can call on all those big democrat fat cats whom he personally vouched for with his former legislative efforts (successfully achieved/ chagrine aside) and ask them to support his work. If they turn him down, it only makes them look WORSE than they do at single digits today.
btw, his advisor on Ingraham this morning made McCain sound "right".

I'll only be happy with McCain when he literally takes Juan Hernandez out behind the barn and shoots him and buries him (dead or not).
We are going to suffer an awlful lot of promises of things to be done this campaign season that just won't happen when the elections are done. Follow candidates actions, not words.
