— Ace Sullivan keeps writing Goldfarb demanding he provide proof Trig is Sarah Palin's son.
So Michael Goldfarb sent the emails to Howard Kurtz, who reprinted Sullivan's insanity for the world to see. Here are two of Sullivan's emails:
"I'm very sorry to say, it's come to this: can you confirm on the record that Trig Palin is Sarah Palin's biological son? . . . Since this is a crazy idea, it should be easy for you or someone to let me know, the most popular one-man political blog site in the world, what the truth is."...
""I asked a simple question akin to asking whether you can confirm that the sky is blue. Here's the question in case it got lost: can you confirm on the record that Trig Palin is Sarah Palin's biological son? Can I please get a response of some sort, even if it is that you will not respond?"
Ha ha ha ha ha.
Sullivan titles his typically po-me post "The Crime of Committing Journalism."
Journalism. Since when were you ever a journalist, Sullivan? This has got to be the first story you've ever actually bothered to "pursue," in your own fashion.
By the way, Sullivan, Howie Kurtz is "committing the crime of journalism," too, by revealing your insanity to the world. That, my deranged idiot, is far more newsworthy a story than "proof" that Trig is Sarah Palin's biological son.
Insanity. Here's the Daily Dementia:
The Crime of Committing JournalismI should reiterate two critical things: I have never claimed that Trig Palin is not Sarah Palin's biological son.
Bullshit, you have insinuated it two dozen times. Furthermore, I have seen emails in which you make it quite plain what you believe.
In fact, I have gone to enormous lengths never to say that, going silent for two days to figure it out and decided to leave it alone. Why? Because I had no proof of anything, only questions.
You went silent because gay gossip site and antisemitic conspiracy newslettter The Atlantic told you stop with the Trig Trutherism, because you were embarrassing a once-reputable magazine. So you went into a snit-- a hissy-fit strike -- for two days.
Since then, I have raised legitimate policy questions about what is undisputed in the public record, but I have not made any statements of fact I do not know to be true. That's my job.
No, it's not. Is Chelsea Clinton actually Webb Hubbell's daughter? Rumors have swirled for years, and the resemblance is uncanny. But that doesn't mean that it's anyone's "job" to constantly flog this rumor.
But I also expected the McCain campaign to do their job and at some point to provide evidence or a public statement setting the record straight, which they could persumably very easily do.
Their job has nothing to do with reassuring paranoid schizophrenics.
So I waited three weeks, watched two interviews, scanned Nexis and Google for any confirmation of actual evidence, and then privately asked Goldfarb and two other people I know and like in the McCain campaign to confirm the evidentiary truth on the record. I did not raise this issue in public.
You've raised it in public over and over again, which is why gay gossip site and antisemetic conspiracy newsletter The Atlantic told you to stop.
I asked a question in private. But it has now been made public by Goldfarb and Kurtz, and since they are now in the public domain, here are the two emails I sent Goldfarb and he got Kurtz to reprint...
[emails already quoted above.]
You're lucky, Sullivan, they didn't print one of your ALL CAPS CONSPIRATORIAL LUNATIC EXCLAMATION POINT SCREED!!!! emails.
I got no response, so I let it drop.
No you didn't. You jump at any pretext to savage the Palin children and "raise questions" about her "bizarre" behavior.
Like everyone else, I have been trying to get some answers to some factual questions from the McCain campaign but they refuse to provide them.
No, you're asking insane questions no sane person asks. If Michael Goldfarb is gaslighting a lunatic for sport, well, maybe that's not nice, but I can hardly blame him for it.
But for the McCain campaign to go to these lengths, violating core confidentiality of private good-faith questions...
Did this cocksucker just accuse someone else of violating the standards of fair play and decency?
... is something that has never happened to me before in journalism. I am also amazed that a fellow journalist would publish such emails in full. But since this is now all in the open, you deserve to know what your blogger has been trying to do in private for three weeks: just get a factual answer to a factual question on the record. They won't. They cannot take the time to confirm on the record that Trig is Sarah's biological son, but they will try to smear the person asking. What does that tell you?
It tells me you're 1) insane and 2) the laughingstock of the political world.

When was Andrew Sullivan a journalist?
When was Andrew Sullivan a writer?
When was Andrew Sullivan a conservative?
When was Andrew Sullivan a man?
When was Andrew Sullivan a respected human being?

What a train wreck of a human being.
But I did like the email he posted on his site today.
McCain, largely because of the Palin pick and the aftermath, has lost my respect. He hasn't had my support since Obama announced, but I'm sorry to have to say that I can no longer respect him. I never thought I'd be able to say that about him of all politicians. I'm actually sad about that. As a mid-20s conservative independent, I feel I must support Obama because I want a return to adult, rational governance.

Where are Sullivan's medical records proving that his disease and the drugs he takes due to it haven't severely impaired his mental abilities?
Come on Andi, fair is fair.
But of course Andrew will claim that he's not a political candidate like Palin is.
And if he wants to practice journalism, he should investigate and provide some evidence that Trig is not Sarah's baby. Just repeating the question over and over in ever more demanding tones is the badgering of a crank - not journalism.

"But since this is now all in the open, you deserve to know what your blogger has been trying to do in private for three weeks: just get a factual answer to a factual question on the record."
I'm pretty sure that the McCain campaign has already answered this question and Andrew just doesn't like the answer. He keeps raising the bar by redefining what 'answer' and 'on the record' means to guarantee that the McCain campaign hasn't 'answered' the charges.

Once these conservative superstars get their "fuck you" money, they don't care who's president or who's making the laws, because it won't affect them.
George Will is safe and happy behind his millions, so it'll be a lot more exciting and gratifying for him as a pundit if Obama is president and the Congress is Democrat.
The funny thing is, McCain and Palin seem to be the only people on the scene who actually do put their country first.
I wish I agreed more with McCain.
But George Will makes me sick.

In your post above, you wrote this about Sullivan's two day absence: "You went silent because gay gossip site and anticonspiracy newslettter The Atlantic told you stop with the Trig Trutherism, because you were embarrassing a once-reputable magazine. So you went into a snit-- a hissy-fit strike -- for two days."
Now, you correctly monikered the gay gossip site and antisemetic conspiracy newletter The Atlantic later in the piece, but just to avoid confusion among those with short attention spans, you might want to edit that reference just so that people don't get the wrong idea about The Atlantic and think that they are an anticonspiracy newsletter.
I write this only because I have a special love for when you refer to one of the oldest and most respected institutions of the now totally disgraced journalism "profession" as a gay gossip site and antisemetic conspiracy newsletter. I actually woke up laughing about that line one day last week. God only knows what I was dreaming about.

One of your morons needs to get a copy of the latest issue (or better yet, several recent issues) and compile a list of their advertisers.
We can then do a little Google-fu and run down the media relations contact information for those companies, and post that contact information online, at which point we can contact the Atlantic's advertisers and ask if they really want to be spending their advertising dollars to support gutless editors that allow a conspiracy-mongering brute to savage the paternity of a Down's child and the sully the reputation of his family. We can use the Post article as evidence.
You'd be surprised at how tight the cash-flow in most magazines is.

I ask because I am expecting an on-the-record answer to a rational question - one much more rational than Andrew's.

I'm still furious at Howard Kurtz for refusing any kind of comment on Sullivan's vicious rumormongering. The Chelsea Clinton analogy is exactly right. Nutjobs on the right have flogged that rumor for years, but THEY ARE NUTJOBS. It would have been unthinkable for, say, Hugh Hewitt to have written columns about this rumor and demanded evidence from Hillary Clinton that Bill really is Chelsea's father. No responsible journalist should traffic in such rumors, and a self-styled "media watchdog" like Kurtz should man up and say so! Sullivan is not going to stop until he is shamed into it by people he actually respetcs, like Howard Kurtz.
I'm also furious as a woman to continue to see this bullshit in print, no matter how much it hurts Sullivan to see his ravings published. This is a "blood libel" to a mother. Faking a pregnancy is just about the worst thing you can accuse a woman of childbearing age of doing. I think it is sexist in the extreme to make the accusation, and it is sexist for male journalists like Kurtz not to recognize it and call it out. This is like accusing a Jew of being a closet Nazi. Nobody would get away with that!

Gah, as someone who has 4 kids and has had two miscarriages, after the first couple pregnancies, you kinda get the hang of how these things work.
If I'd been in Texas and my doctor was in Alaska you can be damn sure, that if I leaked amniotic fluid, I would go back to my hometown to have the baby if I could get away with it.
I prefer having my babies where I'm most comfortable.
Leaking amniotic fluid does not labor make. I just don't know why this is sooo suspicious.

Sullivan reminds me of those weird-oids who demand "proof" (a demand that can never be satisfied) that the Moon landing wasn't actually staged in Hollywood. The idea that man might have gone to the Moon for some reason other than fueling paranoia is inconceivable to that kind of solipsistic brain.
No amount of facts can ever shift that kind of brain out of reverse. It's stuck in its ever-inwardly spiralling cycle of decreasing relevance to the outer world, while its own ego assumes massive proportions (in the mirror).

The whole problem with Sullivan is that he hates women. There is a certain percentage of the male homosexual population that behaves this way, just as there is a certain percentage of the lesbian population that despises men. Keep Sullivan in this perspective. That will explain some of the mindless hatred he spews toward Palin and Hillary Clinton for that matter. He despises all women. Because of his insular and provincial cultural orientation, he has no contact or exposure to women, to the point of not even knowing basic biology! He thinks it's perfectly possible for the Palin girl to have had a baby Trig on Tuesday and then to have become pregnant on Wednesday. That's why he continues his insane crusade. He rejects the idea that female human beings can not become pregnant the next day after delivering a baby. Seriously. He has no concept of human reproduction. None.

What i saw is a 4-page screed by Howard Kurtz that basically rehashes without refutation every criticism of Maverick and Goose thats been out there for the last 10 days. The entire trenor of the piece appears designed to give Sullivan cover. "He's just asking questions, which is what any journalist does." Its transparent bullshit, but...
Gov Palin is undoubtedly creating a cultural stir out in the country at-large, which come election day might well be a factor. We wont know that until we know. But for the last few days (aided and abetted by a willing and complicit Obama loving press corps) Team Mav has been getting their heads handed to them on a plate.

I think Kurtz is trying very hard not to outright accuse Sulli of being a nutbar:
Sullivan, one of the earliest bloggers, has been on a tear about Palin lately, calling her "a compulsive, repetitive, demonstrable liar." But it is the Trig question that has his critics, especially on the right, up in arms. For instance, the Weekly Standard's Jonathan Last, on his Galley Slaves blog, says: "Andrew Sullivan is once again openly using The Atlantic as a platform to demand that Sarah Palin 'prove' that she is mother of her youngest child. It is a disgrace for the magazine and everyone associated with it. One hundred and fifty years of storied history set ablaze in fortnight by a single writer."
There's a difference, obviously, between the fact-checked copy that goes into the magazine and the free-wheeling platform that Atlantic gives its bloggers. But Sullivan's Trig postings have troubled some of his colleagues, and he has been in a veiled debate with fellow Atlantic writer Ross Douthat,Posted by: moronizer at September 24, 2008 01:16 PM (p1s9n)

Wow! Having had the fun of E-mail wars in the distant past with St. Andrew, it was great to watch the dismantling of this two-bit ciber thug. For too long, WAY too long, people have tried to be polite to "RAWMUSCLEGLUTES" (his name when soliciting nasty things on the web) and have treated this fraud as if he were some sort of intellectual. He is not. He is totally ignorant of military history, American history, American government, economics, Catholic theology, and, apparently, the fact that female tummies get larger when females are pregnant as Sarah Palin's did prior to last April (this was dutifully noted by the press in Alaska). I always wondered how one individual could combine all of this plus the chutzpah to lecture the rest of us on morality until I found out that Andy has a degree in political science from Harvard. Everything then fell into place.
Andy has, I suspect, mental derangement related to his well-publicized disease: TOXIC COCK SYNDROME. Given his universally-acknowledged fascination with Abu Ghraib and the very thought of dark-skinned, sweaty, Muslim males being undressed, chained, and being forced to assume humiliating positions, I now call on St. Andrew to PROVE that his, uh, life partner is NOT a dark-skinned, sweaty, Muslim male being forced to assume a humiliating position. This is a simple question like "is his fudge packed?" I await his reply.

Don't make excuses for Kurtz. When Kurtz suggested Palin should release her medical records to placate the asshole, he crossed the line.
I have to admit I was slightly surprised to learn that Sully was still going after the "Trig is not Sarah's kid" angle --
Which makes me believe he is truly obsessed with this baby and his employers should have intervened a long time ago. (I bet he refers to Trig in private as that little joo baby.)
(Accusing her of "exploiting" Trig has the advantage of being unfalsifiable and thus beyond the scope of libel law, I would assume.)
However, it's almost impossible for public officials to sue for libel. They have to prove actual malice, i.e., the statements were made with the knowing or reckless disregard for the truth.

As a mid-20s conservative independent, I feel I must support Obama because I want a return to adult, rational governance.
I'm starting to think Excitable Milky Glutes has confused Astroglide with Astroturf.

Sullivan is circling the bowl, and now comes the Atlantic, Kurtz and the WAPO right behind him, plop, plop, plop.
This election, on top of the last 8 years of its dishonorable conduct, has so debased journalism that it can no longer be seriously considered a profession. Think of it this way... even if we found an honest journalist still existed, he could no longer make a living by honestly telling the truth, could he?
In 8 short years, we have witnessed the reputation of US journalism being burnt to the waterline by the dishonest political activism of most of its stars .

I got into blogs reading Andrew Sullivan's blog, years ago, before he started obsessing over Abu Ghraib. Haven't read him in quite some time, so it's shocking to see how far he's fallen in just a half a dozen years.
As a more serious response than he probably deserves --- didn't the campaign go "on the record" with Trig's parentage when Governor Palin publicly introduced Trig as her son, at the convention, in front of forty million viewers? Hard to imagine a less "off-the-record" comment, no?

And now he's getting it.
Sullivan is the kind of self-loather who actually lives for the hatred of the majority while a select minority sympathize and worship him (almost sounds like a certain kind of activist, doesn't it?).
Hell, I bet he has his partner read hate-emails aloud during "intimacy sessions" because they probably have some kid of viagra-esque effect on him.
...and somewhere Micheal Moore is punching himself because, after all, this IS his M.O.

At best there is proof that Andrew was once gay or is bisexual. But where is the proof that he didn't have heterosexual relations just yesterday? It's a simple factual question that requires only a simple factual answer. Or at least he could answer that he refuses to answer. I'm just asking questions here. As a journalist.

Andi,
If you are reading this, please go right up to Todd Palin and ask.
It would be the most quickest way to get the answer, and I'm sure you've already thought about it, because you're a great journalist.
You piece of shit.
Thanks!

Good stuff, Ace. O'Sulli is a tad beyond warped.
Seems to me, regarding this quote: "The most popular one man blog on the planet?" that O'Sulli has the Thaddeus Matthews syndrome, but he nay be a little more articulate.

When was Andrew Sullivan a journalist?
When was Andrew Sullivan a writer?
When was Andrew Sullivan a conservative?
When was Andrew Sullivan a man?
When was Andrew Sullivan a respected human being?

Because it's fucking bizarre and intrusive, bitch. The fixation that Sullivan and trolls like you have on this infant is not natural. See a psychiatrist. I believe you people are dangerous.

But, as usual, I was reminded that Kurtz is a hack (who occasionally stumbles into fairness).
Kurtz did not have the balls to call Sully out; he seems to give credence to Sully's manic musings.
Note to self: NEVER AGAIN READ KURTZ (this time I'm serious)

is Sully really the "most popular one man political blog"? I thought Insty held that title ...

That was almost as good as the IM conversation between John Edwards and his infant daughter, Frances Quinn. Not quite, of course. But so close.

I wish Journo-Andi would spend as much time asking "questions" about Obama's nefarious background with respect to selling drugs, his college transcripts, his assoc with Sal Alinsky, his ties to Islam, his refusal to help his impoverished brother in Africa, his lack of across-the-aisle bi partisanship, his relationship with Ayers, etc etc etc
Seems to me that any good journalist would be demanding serious answers to these questions....

Im a Fredhead, disappointed by his early departure, but now ecstatic with Palin for VP.
