— Ace Allegedly, the GOP has bailed on her, in the sense that they'll no longer be pumping money to her candidacy, and since that word has gone out to GOP-connected blogs like Red State, it seems they want it to be generally know.
Well... allegedly bailed, so far.

It's simple: Dede will not win. Hoffman might. They don't have to admit they were wrong (and really this was a small group of upstate GOP hacks who did this, the national party had to eat the crap sandwich and smile) but at least they aren't cutting of their nose to spite their face now.

NY-23 didn't have a primary. If it had, Doug would be the candidate. If he had lost, at least the Republicans can then say that's who the district wants representing them from the party, not a decision by idiot party bosses. Yeah, I'd hate that she's a sucky candidate, but the district chose her.
But if you're losing a primary so you say, "Well fuck it, I'll just go third party." I give a big fuck you to you. If you can't win against another Republican in a Republican primary, what makes you think you'll win the district/state?

Very true. New York is a unique system.
NY-23 didn't have a primary. If it had, Doug would be the candidate.
Yes. And no. It would have been another of the candidates. Doug just decided that he couldn't countenance the Scozzafava nomination. They all made that "I will abide by the party's decision." pledge, but Hoffman decided not to abide by it after all. I don't blame him.
For the record, I don't even think he'll win reelection in 2010. I think he'll lose the primary.

See, that bothers me, actually. Steele is essentially saying that it does'nt matter how he votes AFTER he gets into office, they will still back him regardless.
Just like they do with Snowe, Collins, and before his jumping to the party he belonged in all along, Specter.
THAT is what's wrong with the GOP.

Ah I see, well upstate suffers continually under the liberal lashings from NYC and Albany. When we finally got a Republican after the Cuomo disaster, a lot of us has some hope that the state would at least be governed with some right of center leanings.
