— Ace What'll it be today? Bikini pictures? Fake pregnancy? Secret Jew? Nazi sympathizer?
(Secret-Jew Nazi sympathizer?)
Eh, why not just crazy insane?
This Palin thing is crazy on a lot of levels. The sheer level of hatred directed at this bright, sweet, talented woman by the left is almost unprecedented.
And the right's embrace of her, and interest in her, is almost as remarkable. I liked her from the day I heard her speak. Would have joined the "Draft Palin" bandwagon if I had any idea at all it was even possible.
How big is Palinmania? It's a phenomenon. I don't know how widespread this is, but if you ask bloggers, I suspect they'll tell you (on both right and left, and jackoffs who pretend to be "moderate" but are on the left like "Moderate Voice") that internet traffic is not merely record-breaking, it's record-shattering.
This kinda-disposable vid of Palin talking about the governor's mansion and her jogging routine will I suspect, get crushed with traffic. Why? I don't know. But I'll tell you what -- I watched it for no particularly good reason. I knew the one bit of "news" in it (the Israeli flag thing, which I'd already linked at David Ross' site) but I didn't care. Watched it anyway, knowing it would be news-free.
Biggest traffic day of this site's history? Friday. Ninety thousand plus uniques. Previous record? Somewhere around 55,000, during the Fautography feeding frenzy; maybe I hit that level a couple of other times.
Biggest traffic weekend in this site's history? This Labor Day three-day weekend. Three day holiday weekends are always bad for traffic.
This weekend I'm breaking previous records on weekend days, except for Friday's new record. I think Saturday was almost seventy thousand, and yesterday was sixty-three thousand. Typical good weekend day: 20 or 22 thousand. Frequently less.
Typical good numbers for hits in an hour during a weekday? 3,500. It's what I'm usually hoping for (and very often disappointed to not get; a lot of times traffic clocks in a 2600 per hour even during peak hours).
Now, on a weekend? I'm disappointed when the hourly hits fall below 6000.
I've been doing this for four and a half years now (going on five, I think). I've just never seen anything like this, ever.
To say the base (and the opposition) is "energized" is like saying Power Glutes Andy is "rather fond" of milky loads.

Can not wait!
I guess you binge when you have gone without hope for an actual conservative candidate that wants to fight corruption to come along on a Presidential ticket.
Exciting.

The right flank seems to be nailed down, along with at least some of the country-clubbers...time to get the libertarians back on board and we're on our way to rebuilding the Reagan coalition once again.
Posted by: Jim62sch at September 01, 2008 12:01 PM (ubHgw)
I think that Sarah Palin represents a politician that we all sort of idealized as young Reaganites. From the frontier, grounded, authentic (warts and all) inherently conservative, but not a prude.
I've known people men and women like her and they are just the type of antidote to what has passed for leadership in this country- snobbish, condesending egomaniacs (BO).
It's like she has stepped out of a time machine when this country was made of rugged individualism.

Don't fool yourself - you're doing a lot to contribute to the increased traffic by putting up LOTS of LENGTHY posts. I tell ya, those posts where you collect some of the choicer insanity from the Nutroots are delicious morsels indeed. And Sullivan-bashing is always enjoyable fun, even when you use the wrong words and rhetorical tropes. (I stand by my belief that your arguments would be even MORE effective without them.)
But yeah...big news + lots of posts + lots of bile and filth being slung at our candidate = big traffic.

Karl Rove and McBush new that since Sarah Palin was an unknown name in politics, they did what Paris Hilton's people did: create a scandal to make her (in)famous in a hurry. Instead of a sex tape (which might be on the way, wink wink), they got Sarah to have a Downs baby and had her 17 year old daughter get pregnant.
Now she's the talk-of-the-town and voila! she's a household name...just like Paris Hilton. Well done, Karl "the architect" Rove. Well done.

Also, I'd like to cross-post this from the "Never Surrender" thread, if you don't mind:
"Andy Sullivans boss is James Bennet.
The switchboard number at The Atlantic is (202) 266-6000. If you spell Bennets last name in the directory youll get his voicemail."
That strikes me as a nice opportunity to calmly, politely and reasonably let Andrew's boss know how much you appreciate his efforts.Posted by: Kensington at September 01, 2008 12:17 PM (xFNQx)

It's remarkable Ace, but I think it boils down to hope and fear. On the Republican side, hope we can win this, with a candidate who shares our values perhaps to a greater extent than McCain himself. We are not worried abou the inexperience factor - Johnny is the one we are electing to the big job, not Sarah, and his qualifications (career Navy man, lots of time in the Senate) have never been in doubt.
On the Democrat side, Obamamessiah and his backers/followers must be feeling like they have been outflanked. Now its the Republicans with the young, hip, appealing candidate. Perhaps the Demos are beginning to feel "a very human chill up their spine" as the narrator said in the movie "300". A fear that the Republicans might just beat them seems to be turning very quickly into rage - look how vicously they are going after Palin.

Again, I ask: why? What the hell about Palin has put the fear of Jesus into these
morons? The idiots at DU are acting like a bunch of mules turned loose into a field of
loco weed. We're talking foaming at the mouth insane.
But, for some reason, I'm smiling a lot lately. Somehow, I suspect I know why

All she has to do now is calmly go about her business. Even if you do not really like the pick you can enjoy it vicariously because most of the women who have been counted out before they even had a chance to show people what they had to offer are going to be happy if Palin is treated badly, smiles back at them and then does her thing.

I was at the Alaska state fair yesterday in Palmer (right next door to Wasilla), and stopped by the Alaskan Republican booth looking for Palin stickers. The women their said they had none, they all disappeared within hours of them having them printed up.
Having seen quite a few interviews with Governor Palin, I think the McCain campaign just needs to turn her loose on to the media. She can certainly handle her own, and the more exposure she gets, the more successful she will be.
I knew she was going to be the first female POTUS months ago.
I certainly hope that O'Reilly highlights the Internet smears on his next show.
Signed a former democrat in Alaska
p.s. I am waiting for a backlash against the lower 48 in Alaska from all the condescension being displayed against us.

I found out about Sarah before the DNC convention, thought it would be a long shot, but...after following palinforvp.blogspot.com from Thursday on, I've been GLUED to LGF, this blog, hotair, others.
I also donated, for the first time ever, to a political party.
Johnnymac running his campaign with military precision is an amazing thing to witness. Socialist hack advisors like "austan goolsbee" (WTF kind of name is that, anyway?) are nothing but lead in Obama bin Biden's leaky vessel.

Obamamania is dying down because people have discovered that he is emptier than Sullivan's head and are quietly moving away from him.
Palinmania will die down because people will discover just what a great person she is and will quietly join her team.
He offers empty rhetoric, she offers assurance.

Posted by: Jajos, FL at September 01, 2008 12:44 PM (9v34C)
For me, it's the idea that she is NOT a part of the perpetually-political class. I think that the Republicans should run an ad showing the percentage of Obama and Biden's adult life spent in political office, and compare that to McCain and Palin. Palin strikes me one of the few politicians who didn't aspire to be a part of the overlord class and simply went into politics because she thought she could make a difference at whatever level. For Obama, I have a sense that he has cared about political jobs pretty much insofar as these could advance him into further, higher-ranking positions.
And, frankly, I WANT to have candidates with experiences outside of trust-fund/think-tank/political-organizer jobs. Unlike Obama and Biden, I think that Palin (and McCain!) would rather skin a moose than a taxpayer.
