For Graduates
— Dave in Texas

And their families, whether it be K-G or Middle School, High School and Collegiates. Many congratulations. I have been there with you all right up to college 2x. I know you are proud of them, because I know you helped em get there.

May God bless them on their journey.

4 It's college graduation at the University today. As a matter of fact my daughter who just finished her first year just came up to me and said "its gonna suck when I graduate sitting there for hours until my name is called" Our last name is toward the end of the alphabet. She is right, graduations are wonderful things until you have to sit through one.

10 So is this the thread where we get to rant about the education our kids are getting? Because if so, this shit is getting me... perturbed: http://tinyurl.com/lt3cf99 It's bad enough that Islamists have been hounding teachers out of the classroom in the West Midlands - including by the way non-Islamist Muslims (always the first target of the Jihad). But here we're finding out that the Birmingham school authorities' foremost concern is staying out of the pages of that icky Daily Telegraph.

12 Very nice, Dave. I was thrilled that my daughter actually made it through high school and then moved on to college. Yet, to my great disappointment, she then decided to "take a year off". That was 10 years ago. I pray she goes back and, at least, finishes her associates degree. It's hell being old and qualified for a job, knowing you can kill the interview, only to be passed over in the elimination process for some kid with a degree and no real-world experience.

16 Way back in 1985, I had a 24" Tokemaster bong under my graduation gown. This was in a very public arena in a pretty good sized city - same place all the big concerts are held. I was a hero in H.S. for the next few weeks. I wonder shenanigans the kids are up to these days?

25 My son should graduate this winter,15 years after high school. He went for three years, flunked out. He worked for six years, three of them driving straight truck cross country, met and married his wire, had a long time to think things over, and finally figured out what he wanted to do in life. He has now truely applied himself, unlike the first time. And this time didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

34 My eldest is graduating from high school this year. Upsetting extended family out because she doesn't want to go to college. I'm a little sad about it, but I think if she later decides she wants a career that involves college, she will find a way to get through. She was thinking about becoming a teacher, but doesn't want to push through four years of extremely worthless classes just to teach.

36 I think there's a lot to be said for getting your degree after you've been out in the real world for a while. I think maybe you take it more seriously when it's a conscious deliberate choice rather than just "the next thing you do".

I couldn't help but notice that the crowds who protested against Condi Rice speaking at Rutgers, were full of women with headgear.

50 He'll get a shot in training camp, the odds are against him making the team, but even on the practice squad, he'd be an "NFL player". They might keep him around for that. Appeasing the gay Mafia is a corporate consideration at every level these days.

51 @50 That and the U of MO connection.

Posted by: Nip Sip at May 10, 2014 02:39 PM (0FSuD)

Posted by: Fat Freddy's Cat at May 10, 2014 02:41 PM (OsheA)

53 Yeah, the U MO in-State connection might have been a factor. Carlos Fields Jr, a linebacker from the local D2 did not get drafted. After free agent signings, training camp, I bet he gets further this year than Sam.

Posted by: Lincolntf at May 10, 2014 02:42 PM (ZshNr)

54 Picking samiam was a mistake. Not because he's a butt pirate but because he declared he was before the draft. Now they can't cut him if he doesn't make it. The ever so tolerant gay mafia will absolutely crush the Rams for caving in to homophobia. Stupid to draft him.

59 Sam's boyfriend better keep an eye on Trey Wingo from ESPN. That was the most disgusting display of advocacy "journalism" I've ever seen. No doubt Barky put in a call to MSNBC complaining that he can't get that kind of love.

Posted by: weirdflunkyonatablet at May 10, 2014 02:50 PM (m/9JW)

60 I got an e-mail from Amazon with book recommendations. One of them was John B. Lundstrom's "The First South Pacific Campaign", which has just been released in paperback. https://tinyurl.com/kyss6on I was not previously familiar with this book. I do, however, have a copy of his "The First Team". So naturally, I went online and bought a used hardcover for $70. And I got off easy.

62 Is there a thread to congratulate Chelsea (nee Clinton) on getting her PhD in "WORLD GOVERNANCE" from Cambridge Univ. in England? Mom and Dad were both there (the Hill 'n Bill duo) and they appeared to be feeling pretty good about themselves. Probably will be posting some selfies on the internet tonight.
