Florida And Michigan Democratic Delegate Deals

ICKES: CLINTON RESERVES RIGHT TO TAKE MICHIGAN DELEGATE PLAN TO CONVENTION IN DENVER.

The Democrats have apparently cut some deals on these two delegations.

The deal reached, NBC NEWS has learned, is a 69-59 split with half votes in Michigan. Obama will be guaranteed the two add-on superdelegates. NBC NEWS has not confirmed if the superdelegates will get half or full votes.
Florida will be split by the primary vote and votes will count for half.

This doesnt give Clinton anything near enough delegates to matter. The real question is if they only give Michigan half votes, will she or Sen. Levin take the fight to the credentials committee in Denver? Or will enough superdelegates announce for Obama to make it moot?

Either way, it just shows that the Democrats cant even keep their own party in order, yet they think they can run the government.

Amusing note...after a motion to seat the full Florida delegation failed a bunch in the crowd, presumably Clinton supporters, started changing "Denver! Denver! Denver! and booed the mention of Obama's name.

Update: The Florida plan for a full delegation with half votes passed unanimously and that will be the media storyline. The reality is the full delegation with full votes failed 12 in favor and 15 opposed. Don't buy the united party spin.

Update Part II: Ickes is going off on the Michigan plan. He says they are 'hijacking' four Clinton delegates and that it is an anti-democratic decision and that they are 'overturning' the election and will of the Democrats of Michigan.

More Ickes, taking 4 delegates from Clinton is no way to start down the road to party unity.

I think they are going to take it to Denver. Please let them do it.

My guess is the shouting at the meeting actually helps Obama. I think a lot of supers will want to avoid an even bigger spectacle at the national convention. To make sure that doesn't happen, they'll push him over the top ASAP.

13 BTM, it increases by half the amount of delegates added. Flip on CNN and you'll see they've already updated the numbers to account for Florida. I'm sure that after the Michigan vote (any minute now after Mrs. Smith finishes bloviating) the numbers will be updated to include Michigan's delegates.

25 Just imagine that the situation was reversed and they took delegates from the black candidate and gave them to the white candidate. Al Sharpton would be leading riots in the streets. The fact that the people who were themselves disenfranchised by slavery, Jim Crowism etc. are now disenfranchising another group simply because they now have a black candidate is kind of sickening.

27 It's like a physics lab at the DNC, smokey room. You know the answer in advance. The problem is working backwards to manipulate the numbers so that you can fill in the appropriate blanks and prove your work. Someone's going to get shortchanged (and I'm not just talking the voters), so creating a "rational" process to reach justify the desired and preconceived goal is the purpose of this charade.

I hope Team Hillary removes the odd decimal or two and cuts an ocassional wire... just to be sure.

Keep in mind that the delegates in Denver do *NOT* have to vote for the candidate that their voters voted for. I.e. an Obama delegate can choose to vote for Hillary at the convention.

With all the press about Obama's crazy-ass friends this is possible.

If Hillary stays in the race to Denver then it's possible that defectors will vote for her and she'll actually win.

The politicians in Michigan knew exactly what they were getting into. The governor (didn't vote for her) and her cadre of Washington minions (didn't vote for them either) decided to move up the primary without any input from their constituents- to make Michigan more "relevant." The only thing they did accomplish was rigging the election for Hillary.

Several Democrats I know voted for Romney in the primary, as per the morons at Kos. Personally, I hope they go bat sh*t crazy in Denver, then come back and vote for McCain.
