— Ace A leftish German rag admits it. NBC still officially deems Iraq in a state of "civil war."
Worth a read, if you have extra time and want to read stuff you already know. I really couldn't find anything particularly juicy to quote, myself.

I predict a Nobel Peace prize is in President Obama's future for his astonishing leadership in bringing peace and prosperity to Iraq and all his work in reducing AIDS in Africa. /sarcasm

This is the real news in the story:
Two kilometers down the street, business is booming late into the night at Ali Lami's roadside snack bar. Before the war the establishment, a Baghdad institution, was a favorite hangout for former dictator Saddam Hussein's henchmen and United Nations weapons inspectors alike.

Works kinda like the pronouncements on the economy: the exact same figures that are "terrible" and "worst economy in decades" if a Repub is prez are declared to be good or great indicators if a Dem is elected.

Not only a is Der Spiegel a lefty rag, they very much hate the US. If this is coming from Der Spiegel, the media has finally decided to cut and run from the unnecessary quagmire they've entered.

Curiously, the Obama campaign, remained locked into three years ago at the time everyone else was starting to clue up.

Near as I can tell, here's the order that knowledge of the success in Iraq spread:
Iraqis.
Coalition troops.
The dextrosphere.
Republican politicians.
The public in general.
Foreign anti-American media.
The MSM and the sinistrosphere, but I repeat myself (in progress).
Democrat politicians (around the time that Iraq is about as dangerous as Nebraska).
Reid, Pelosi, and Obama are really on the leading edge of the wave, huh?

"around the time that Iraq is about as dangerous as Nebraska"
Dude, I grew up on the mean streets of rural Nebraska. We called the rest of America "The Green Zone," and we'd never even heard of Baghdad. Don't talk it, if you haven't lived it.
IAHT - you wouldn't understand.

The International Herald article by Glanz and Oppel, Jr. anti-American (oil, war for profit) interests in Iraq is fabricating some whole cloth for Bobama's Egyptian "Clearance Sale".
State Department is asked for policy on an American businessman making a deal in Iraq, and responds "no policy at this time either for or against" but has given the advice to everyone from everywhere that any deals made prior to Iraqi government decision is premature and risks contractual compromises down the road.
Glanz and Oppel would make it out that Hunt, a Dallas oilman, has no legitimate reason to be negotiating with the Kurds who approached him over an oil deal. Furthermore, they insert their own words into "the record" hypocritically pushing their own line of business interest prior to any parliamentary decision by the Iraqi govt.
