6 I agree, kempermanx.  I've been saying since I heard Obama was the nominee that Republicans would win the presidency, and if McCain didn't completely screw up his veep pick, it'd be a landslide of 1980 proportions.  Yes, I think it's plausible McCain even takes New Jersey and CA.

I find it amazing that Democrats managed to find a nominee who was even worse than John Kerry, but I seem to have a limitless capacity for overestimating them, no matter how much I feel my opinion of them couldn't be any lower.

Palin has won the election for McCain unless he drops the ball.

Anybody with a brain knows that the persistent leftist propaganda that the US is trending leftward is utter bullshit.  The core of American culture is conservative, and the only reason it isn't obvious to all is the control of the media exercised by the left.  As soon as someone with a (true) story so compelling as Ms. Palin's comes along, the dike bursts.  That's why the media/donk prime directive is "no more Reagans".

16 The debates are going to be a route.  Biden will look puffed up and foolish Obama will look like a panderer.  They'll look that way because that is what they are.  Palin will look like a really smart  and normal human being.  McCain will be a tough old bastard. Because that is what they are.  The Dems will lose by double digits.  My guess is both campaigns internal polls are all ready seeing that trend, thus the panic.
 I also bet that a lot of left wing journalists are calling their right leaning journalist friends and really pushing the "inexperiecned" line hard, mostly out of desperation.  I hope the right leaning pundits aren't collegial enough to buy that crap.  But I think great numbers of them are.    That would explain a lot of what I've seen from journalists lately.  I begin to think the right leaning journalists I rail at most ( The NRO ) aren't  so much dumb or corrupt, just horribly easy to manipulate and too silly and full of themselves to recognize that their colleagues would do that to them.  Well they will and they have... on Jamil Hussein on the TNR on John Edwards and now on Palin as well I think.  Here's hoping they wise up.  I'll try to keep a more civil tongue in my head without totally losing my bite.

The only one who could have cracked NYC was Rudy as VP.  NYC is just too big a nut to crack for outsider R's on their own.  McCain can take all of upstate in a massive landslide and still lose the state due to NYC.

Bringing in Sarah Palin as VP, though, puts a different spin on things. You have to do deals to make things happen in the Senate -- it's the way of things. But if you have a moose-hunting, corruption-quashing, cost-saving, hyper-competent woman -- who just happens to be married to a hyper-competent snowmobile-racing, steelworking, Yup'ik ("genuine people") man -- on your ticket, you're sending a clear signal that the entire "Rethuglican" meme is blown.

Sarah Palin says that the Republican Party stands for men and women who stand for themselves. Strong women, strong men. Citizens who set their country above their party, and who exemplify "diversity" by putting it in its rightful place -- subordinate to family and the rule of law. People who live their principles when times get tough, and own their own lives without government interference.

For people who heard Michelle Obama's "for the first time in my adult lifetime I am really proud of my country" comment, the contrast could not be more clear. A child of privelege, bringing down a $300K salary after her husband provided a $1M earmark to her employer, known for complaining over the burden of government-subsidized student loans that she incurred to attend Princeton........in contrast to Palin's attendance at the University of Idaho, and her profound appreciation of the opportunities provided by the American Dream.......

Confronted with the choice between such optimism and such pessimism, I can only hope that this election heavily favors Palin -- and the old fart on the top of the ticket.
