...Some of her aides note with a hint of resentment that Mr. Obama did not pick her as his running mate; he did not even vet her fully. Plus, they add, her fall calendar also includes campaigning for Senate Democratic candidates, not just for Mr. Obama...Anyone want to start a pool on how much Obama campaigning Hillary does? I'll take 20%. Enough as to not raise too much suspicion that she "wasn't trying", but not so much she'll look like she's tied to a sinking ship either.

As I recall, in 1976 Reagan made sure Ford carried California, and that was about it.
I predict Obama will carry New York.

"Mrs. Clinton, meanwhile, has a legacy to protect: She has no intention of turning over her 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, as she called her supporters, to Ms. Palin,"
I don't think every last one of her supporters is a mindless troll who will do whatever she instructs. There will likely be a huge amount of those same women who will vote for Palin for many reasons.

I agree. She'll do just enough and nothing more. Mostly the underticket races. Obama has to lose for Clinton to have any shot at 2012, and his VP will have the inside track for 2016. So he has to lose.
McCain will win upstate NY. I wonder if Clinton has any pull with the NYC/suburb vote. If so, she could really fuck him over. The Dems need an overwhelming win in NYC to carry the state.

Is it possible that Hillary knows her "35 years of experience" don't really stack up that well against Palin's record of actually accomplishing things and having, you know, real experience?

Hillary has no viable way to actively support Obama without absolutely playing his nursemaid. Hillary's already given Obama as many featured endorsements as Oprah has. She can do her dinner engagement fund raisers, but owes Obama NADA. Considering how the DNC turned on her, she owes them no more than whatever she chooses to give.
And why should Hillary disaffect women voters at this point whom Sarah Palin has won over? Those are the bulk that elect Hillary to whatever office. Yes, obviously the core of Pinkos are around. But the MODERATES that have voted for Hillary in the past and would vote for Hillary as likely as not again in the future, those moderates are with Palin right now, and they're not all women.
At this moment, wise politicians are observing the pulse of America, and not attempting to enforce cardiac arrest just to please Obama. SHOULD Obama lose, why go down with him? Should Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid fall into the minority, why lose good graces with Sarah Palin? Why should Hillary not grease the wheel leading to her next triumph? She knew all along that Obama would lose; that is why she thought that she would be the winner without trying at the onset. With Palin's appearance, I'm not surprised that Hillary has two reasons to limit her exposure with Obama now.

One thing she won't do, cut Palin personally. It's not going to happen, policy only for Hillary and it's Palin's personal appeal that Obama needs a strong woman to attack. Sebelius isn't going to cut it, she's not well known enough and too boring.
She's a female John Kerry. The same will be true for Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer and the rest. Hillary is the only top woman Democrat with any widespread appeal, which says a lot about the Democrats, the party of women lol.

I'd also say that Andy is really on to something. What benefit does Hilary get going up against Palin? Palin has youth, looks, big mo from public opinion, no real negatives (at least that anyone has found), and a couple solid wins to her credit. She is a fresh face to a polity fed up with business as usual.
Think about it, nobody in politics - or the MSM - really knows how to counter someone like that right now, it's not in the playbook. That's alot of what has the pundits freaked out - they can't keep their phony baloney jobs if they can't pretend to speak with authority and their ham handed attempts to date have only hardened alot of the public's resolve. People are beginning to recognize real risk in taking shots at Palin.
If you were Hilary, assuming even if you thought you had a winning strategy for taking on Palin, why in the world would you just give it away to Obama, or anyone else?

I know at least 3 PUMAs in my office that are going for Palin and the old guy. However, Palin could lose them, from what I overhear, if she hits the abortion issue too hard. They want a woman in the White House, badly, and they think that Obama is a dog for what he did in dumping Hillary. However, they're worried about a rabid taliban-style right-winger taking away their rights. They don't think that of Palin yet, but they could fall that way.
Still, I think that if they don't vote Palin, they'll stay home.

OK, this may be a little too conspiratorial but follow me on this. If you click that link, there is a sidebar ad for 'N.O.T. for Democrats 2008' which says "I Own My Vote" and features an orange ribbon, which I am guessing is the the colored ribbon signifying you are a PUMA. Remember when McCain joined Sarah Palin onstage after her convention speech? He was wearing an orange tie, which struck me as an odd choice, but now makes some sense, if he was sending a signal to the PUMAs to come vote for him.
Or am I just nuts?

OK this is just wild speculation on my part but isn't that what the web is all about.
I live in Suffolk County, Long Island.
I was on the McCain site just before the Sarah pick. McCain had just opened a NY/NJ office in NJ. I have no idea of knowing if this SOP for campaigns to open more offices closer to the election or are the McCain internals showing a possibility of winning in one of these states.
Hill did really well everywhere in NY during her re-election bid but she had no competition. I voted for the guy running against her and cannot remember his name. However, in the the very scientific poll of bumper stickers there is a lot of animosity directed toward Hillary in Suffolk County. I have heard plenty of people comment she has done nothing for Long Island.
My county evenly divided in 2004 presidential race with Kerry winning with a small margin.
Like a previous poster stated if New York is in play the O should just forgetaboutit.

FTA #21: Leonard Pitts Jr. uses Bush I replacing black Justice Thurgood Marshall with black Justice Clarence Thomas as an illustration of Republican tokenism.
Hey, Junior, how much would you have bitched if he HADN'T?! That's what I thought, dipshit.
Oh, and since the fact that Sarah was a small-town mayor 6 years ago apparently destroys her credibility for Junior, let's ask what Barack was doing 6 years ago? He was voting "present" over and over as a State Senator (elected by getting the Chicago machine to remove all his opponents from the ballot through legal technicalities), and hanging with unrepentant leftist terrorists, that's what he was doing, dipshit.
Pitts' only redeeming virtue as a writer is that most of his writing is so incoherent that it lack the ability to insult you as it is intended to. On those rare occasions that a few strings of subjects, verbs, and predicates randomly line up in a way that roughly approximate normal thought, the message conveyed is almost always a pretty clearly contrived one of grievance and spite. Junior is a professional "black" writer, you see. That's racist code for somebody who can't write for shit, but gets by on "authenticity" because of his skin color.
Leonard Pitts Jr. is a tool.

how many sitting presidents sought but failed to be nominated by their party for re-election? i can't think of any in the modern era - and i'm back to fdr in my head.
running against palin (as sitting vp) allows hillary to run as "i told you so" liberal v. "i lost the general in 2008, but am feeling much better now" liberal in the primaries - a battle she can win. the HUGE screw up is already in the books when mccain takes 2008. she would then run liberal v. conservative in the general. a clear choice not needing a screw up.
i think she's going to gloat in making him an after-thought in her senate campaigning - just as he did when he bounded back to the stage and said, "oh yeah, you guys give some money to hillary, ok?"
i enter the pool at 5%.

So Hillary! has to subtly torpedo the Messiah (thus ending his chances forever, since Democrats don't renominate losers) and then hope that McCain screws up so bad that he drags Palin down with him.
Which might not be a bad bet, since even if McCain wins, he'll still have the Democrats in Congress trying to thwart any attempt at reform.
And even if McCain succeeds in doing good, there are a hundred ways he might not get credit for it, most of them having to do with the mainstream media's unwillingness to say anything good about a Republican.
Nope, Hillary! has to sink Obama this year; he's the most immediate threat to her plans, simply because his victory will stop her for the next eight years. She can put Palin off until 2012, and hope that she stumbles between now and then.
