Chupacabra?

Hardly, says I. A Texas woman thinks she has chupacabra attacking her farm animals, I think she has feral Mexican Hairless Dogs, or a mutt with that breed, or a close relative. Look at the skin tone of the dog in the article, and the one in the Wiki page, note the shape of the ears. Its similar, and keep in mind, the 'chupacabra' has been dead awhile, plus it could be older, which may explain the wrinkles and ears sitting down on the head.

I don't know why, but I like the whole dog breeding/show thing. I've always liked seeing the different breeds, and learning what the purpose of the breed was or what it was naturally made to do, so I had a pretty strong idea of what this thing was immediately.

5 What dogs are your favorite? I've owned mutts and purebreads(Peekingeese nad Samoyed) and mutts are definately better. I have a lab mutt mix, she was used as a drug mule when she was a puppy(cut open 'fixed'and had drugs put in place) and she is the sweetest dog. The shelter I got her from,North Shore Animal League, is a no-kill facility so they nursed her back to health and put her up for adoption. Fortunately, on the day I decided to get a new dog.

6 Wasn't there a case a number of years back where a fleeing felon jumped a fence and found himself in the yard of a chihuahua breeder? There were something like 70 "lawn pirhanas" running loose in the yard. Mauled him pretty bad, as I recall.

7 Honestly, I've never owned a mutt. Growing up we owned two dogs, both purebreds, the first was the greatest dog and everybody loved it, the second was the worst, and that was the last dog we owned.

8 Sinistar, if you have kids and the room, get a dog. Doggies and kids go together, like PB&J, the bigger the dog the better. They are usually the best with small children. If you want purebreed go with something German Shepard size or larger, stay away from yip dogs and pit bulls.

14 Heh, STFU Steve. I'm straight, and completely comfortable with myself to admit I like something as ghey as dog breeding/showing.

Don Carne, no kids (no wife either, yet, alas), but yeah, I know my breeds, and bigger dogs usually are better with kids, as long as they don't step on 'em if they're little kids. Our first dog was a big dog, and was great with us. Our second was medium sized, and just a fucking retard.

I've really been admiring German Shepherd crosses.

The purebreds are still wonderful dogs in temperament and intelligence, but so many have been ruined healthwise by bad breeding/ AKC. It's a tragedy what has happened to so many fine breeds.

A Shepherd/ Lab cross is just about as wonderful a family dog you'll ever find, and generally healthier than the purebreds too (still have to keep an eye on the potential for hip dysplasia).

Shepherd/ Collie is up there too.

16 Yeah, unfortunately AKC has put too much emphasis on meeting exact physical and appearance standards at the expense of health, but as long as you find a reputable breeder, you'll be fine. My mother didn't do the research needed to know the breed we were gonna get were all spastic fucking retards, I doubt she would have chosen that breed had she known.
