— DrewM There have been a couple of late developments to catch up on.
Obama took time from his vacation to speak about the man who may replace him. Hes not happy but hes being very careful about it.
"Roland Burris is a good man and a fine public servant, but the Senate Democrats made it clear weeks ago that they cannot accept an appointment made by a governor who is accused of selling this very Senate seat. I agree with their decision, and it is extremely disappointing that Governor Blagojevich has chosen to ignore it. I believe the best resolution would be for the Governor to resign his office and allow a lawful and appropriate process of succession to take place. While Governor Blagojevich is entitled to his day in court, the people of Illinois are entitled to a functioning government and major decisions free of taint and controversy," said President-elect Obama.
Next, the Illinois Secretary of State admits theres really nothing he can do about the appointment.
"We've been doing a little research on this, and its a little nebulus," White's Press Secretary David Druker told First Read. "We do think the governor can still bring it to the U.S. Senate" without White's signature. He added, "I guess you could say it was a moral stand."
A moral stand in Chicago politics? Sure, okay.
And finally can Harry Reid actually follow through and refuse to seat Burris based on Article I, Section 5 of the Constitution? One of NROs legal guys says probably not.
Blagojevich has thumbed his nose at the entire Democratic establishment in Chicago and DC, while one of Chicagos leading black figures makes seating Burris sound even more important than Obamas election to the presidency, all while helping Blago with a key constituent group. Thats not a bad day for a guy facing federal criminal charges and a pending impeachment proceeding.
You've got give it to Blago when he moves, he slices like a fuckin hammer.

Barry and the rest want me to step down? Fuck you. I'm here to stay.

Although denying them half of their senate representation while he ran for the presidency is OK. Blago, at least, is showing up for work.

How much carnage can this wrecking ball leave behind? And for how long? And can we do anything to extend it? I still have popcorn I didn't get to enjoy leftover from the November election. It'd be a shame to let it go to waste.

So if I have this right, Obama will interrupt his vacation to make a wishy-washy comment about Blago, but not about a shooting war in the Middle East?
That's about what I thought.
Guess what, Barry. You're going to have to start making actual decisions sooner or later. Voting "present" only works in the legislature.

This keeps getting better every day. I'm actually pulling for Blago to keep his job for a few months, Princess Caroline to be the next Senator from New York, and of course Sen. "Landslide" Franken to be the junior senator from MN.

Senator Navycopjoe........sounds good!!

AD, I was talking to 'she who must be obeyed' about this earlier (no, not alexthechick) and could he really change it?
If he came out and said he supported Israel's assault, they could go on and finish the job. If he said he wanted to pull their support, the Israel would step up their asskicking and most likely introduce a large 50gal drum of whoopass to Iran.
Either way, Israel will be doing a good thing I think.

So Blagojevich picks a guy Obama supported, who is in turn supported by a guy who probably hates Obama.
Let's take a moment and consider the major lesson here...do not fuck with Rod Blagojevich. He will find many creative ways to take a knife and cut you up.
He may go down (though right now, I think my money is on him in the impeachment process and the trial) but he's going to take your ass with him.
Posted by: DrewM. at December 30, 2008 05:20 PM (hlYel)
You may be right, ultimately. At least I hope you're right. The thing is, how often does Israel reign things in because of our pressure? Pretty regularly (unless there's great public choreography going on while, privately, they do whatever the hell they were going to do anyway) and they'll be reliant on Obama's whims to a degree in the near future whether they like it or not. Some deference will almost assuredly happen. Our arms, money, and political/military umbrella are fundamentals Israel cannot afford losing, so Israel must remain receptive to, even if mad at, the choices Obama makes.
Also, think about the political opinion that will invariably be spun around the globe. If it contradicts Bush's position, it'll create unnecessary division. Plus, if Obama calls for mutual stand-down "for the children," then that will only empower the initial aggressors as they, Hamas, likely get the reflexive support of everyone except the United States while they, Hamas, rearm under a cease fire. That's a pressure that, even if ignored, reinforces the historical template we and Israel has had to combat for decades.

Preventing him from participating in closed door democrat conversations doesn't mean squat. They'd still have to recognize and count his vote on the floor, allot speaking time, etc. As a practical matter, he'd be no different than a truly "independent" senator who didn't caucus with either major party.

Nope. From Hot Air:
Update: Dingy Harry insists that Burris wont be seated. Minor problem: Does he have the constitutional authority to do that? Probably not, thanks to ta da Earl Warren.
In 1969, the Supreme Court ruled that the House of Representatives could not refuse to seat Rep. Adam Clayton Powell Jr., a New York Democrat who was accused of putting his wife on the payroll and misusing travel funds to vacation in the Caribbean. Despite those charges, he had been reelected by his constituents in Harlem.
The Constitution does not vest in the Congress a discretionary power to deny membership by majority vote, wrote Chief Justice Earl Warren. Congress may judge only the qualifications set forth in the Constitution, he said.
The qualifications are minimal. A senator must be at least 30 years old, a U.S. citizen and an inhabitant of the state.
Hairy Reid can't refuse to seat him. Stare decisis and all that stuff.

Breaking News!!
A local public affairs news source in Chicago is reporting that Burris gave Blagojevich $14,000 in campaign contributions, and received as much as $280,000 in returned affirmative action minority business set asides. We've got the story at LR. But the politically correct MSM is ignoring this angle.
Classive Pay to Play for Reverse Racism affirmative action quotas.

Blago should just go for broke and appoint a horse to the seat, at a press conference where he dresses like Caligula. And re-enact the Crisco scene from the movie, while he's at it.
And then have the PETA wackos at the press conference threatening to protest if they don't accept Incitatus.

Poor widdle Barry the whole world is being mean to him. From Politico via yahoo/Pravda:
Barack Obama doesnt need this, not right now.
Already, Obamas Hawaiian vacation has been interrupted by news of an Israeli incursion into Gaza. He faces a mounting economic crisis even before he takes office.
Burris has given $4,500 to Blagojevichs gubernatorial campaigns since 2004, according to Illinois state records.
When Blagojevich beat me, I told Barack to get on board with him, Burris said told the Washington Post earlier this month. It was kind of like swallowing his pride a little bit, because he didn't really see that they had anything in common.
Get on board with Blago yet, Barry is somehow completely clean of Blago. It must be his messianic powers that allow him to stay so clean. Barry may stay on vacation for the next 4 years just to avoid everything.

As long as it isn't a cracker horse. That's a black horse seat and it had better stay that way. I'm personally willing to back Black Beauty even if he does have that white spot on his forehead and the white stocking. But Rob Roy would also be an acceptable choice. By following the steps described it will become easy for you to install hid kit in your car by yourself.
Usually people have to go to a mechanic and ask if he can install hid kits in their car but if you know how to do it then there is no need to go to a mechanic or automobile electrician. First of all you will have to prepare yourself for installing hid headlights to your car.
