It looks genuine, at least upon first examination.

I'm really not sure about some of those typefaces, though.

Ironically enough, it now turns out that Dan Rather's "unimpeachable source" is a partisan blogger, too.

There's absolutely nothing of any interest on the blog thusfar. A lot of whining about CBS News to no particular purpose, and Burkett's six billionth flogging of the AWOL charges.

The link is here, and I suppose it wouldn't hurt to click on it, except that he'll be using his traffic stats to sell blogads soon, I imagine.

Update-- The Logic of a Disordered Mind:

Burkett had admitted his deception concerning his source(s) to CBS prior to the interview and that only five individuals within CBS had prior knowledge of this before the interview. Why Was this the entire focus of the interview and the clip placed on the CBS Evening News?

What the heck is his complaint here? Why is it relevant that "only five individuals" knew he lied before the interview? What has that got to do with anything?

And why wouldn't his admitted lie be featured prominently?

I don't even get this one.

2 They delete any comments they don't agree with immediately. Their disclaimer says "This is not a site for harrassment. Posts that deal without fact and are deemed harrassing in nature will not be posted." If they had been applying this principle 2 months ago they would have hit the delete button and they wouldn't be be having to hit it every 15 seconds now.

3 Well, I don't think anyone should try to disagree with him. He's obviously thin-skinned.

If anyone wants to post comments, ask him about what CBS knew and when. He seems eager to disparage CBS News, and that's something that should be taken advantage of.

5 ACE - I looked into the guy who set up Burkett's Site, and registered the domain www.billburkett.us - Geoff Staples.

It seems that Geoff is a Precinct Chairman for the Dallas County Democratic Party, and their Website is also set up by him. He is the General Manager and Program Director for RadioLeft.com, and has interviewed Burkett before on his radio shows. Staples is a long-time gay and Progressive Democratic activist who is a member of the Progressive Populist Caucus of the Texas Democratic Party, which is chaired by David Van Os.

I also found postings Geoff Staples has written as an "expert" on Votematic machines during the Florida recount, flaming lefty posts on the need to impeach Bush, stuff on how Bush was AWOL from the Guard, and the need to "fight dirty" after the SwiftVets. I will be sending you an email with a Word Attachment on some stuff he has done with Burkett, the Texas Dems, and links. I want to explore some other Democratic web sites Geoff Staples has set up as part of his business, hostricity.com.

You are free to pass on this stuff I'm sending you to Allahpundit, Drudge, whoever...if you want.

I think the bottom line is Burkett was well connected with Democratic activists as he pursued the "Bush was AWOL, and I can prove it" quest. He gets Van Os as his lawyer, knows Ben Barnes, and has Geoff Staples, activist and Webhoster for various democratic groups, set up his website. That IS Burkett's regular network, and if he had assistance in forging his documents, the co-conspirators are likely to be within that group.

I plan on submitting a post to Burkett's site to his son Nick saying the family and Bill should consider coming clean on the source to disprove the assumption that Burkett did it all on his own, if that is the case.

6 Given that it was noted early on that the creation and circulation of these memos might be a criminal matter, it seems passing strange that Burkett would set up and post to a website - or that any of his very worldly associates and advisors would suggest that he do so or participate.

Then again, he did agree to at least one post-debunking interview, which isn't something most lawyers would suggest to someone who might soon find himself facing investigators.
