A remarkable day in the cause of hatred we can all celebrate.

1 I guess this means Canada has officially fallen behind Great Britain in the Sharia race...

2 Unfortunately this is still a case of the good guys winning, but the fact that they even had to fight was a loss.  The cost of defending oneself will discourage others who might not have the resources/publicity to fight off the accusations... which was probably the intended effect.

3 On the other hand, when there has up until now been a 100% conviction rate, this is still progress.  Insufficient, but still progress.

4 This actually sucks.  This means Mark Steyn won't get a ruling in his favor so this leaves the gate open for the scumbags to do it all again with some one who doesn't have the voice that Mark Steyn has.  They'll just move on to the next victim and use the exact same smear tactics against another innocent.

Just Another case of liberal fascism.

I think the HR tribunal realized that Steyn and MacLean's had the means and will to take a conviction to higher court for review and this could have put their whole phoney-baloney HR court system at risk. So they had to let them off.

Meanwhile they'll go back to persecuting small fish who can't fight back.

Pure CYA move by the Kanada Kangaroo Kourt.  Had it been someone without resources and recognition you know damned well they'd have at very least ordered he apologise and pay the legal costs of the plaintiffs.  Since that would've led to much needed scrutiny against these unelected, unqualified, unanswerable PC douchebags they instead chose to sweep it under the rug.

8 For the reasons Andrew Coyne at Macleans states far clearer than I ever could, this isn't much of a victory.

Macleans hoping to lose, appeal the case to a real court, and get the law declared unconstitutional.  Now, the law is still on the books, capable of being used as a weapon against those with whom you disagree.  And because it's so costly to mount a defense, the process is the punishment.

By the way, the BCHRT dumped this decision on a Friday before a big holiday weekend in Canada.   They want it buried.

9 Bittersweet - like hearing about one Chinese dissident that is freed from prison, yet forgetting about the thousands of nameless others rotting in shallow graves.

10 Mark Steyn is hot!

11 I wish Steyn would at least attempt to sue the scumbags for defamation and harass them for a while.

12 Mark now needs to sue the asshole for his defense costs and then some.

No, what he needs to do is hire a couple of leg breakers with hammers to go over and knee-cap the SOBs.

14 Woot! Go Mark Steyn. Acquittal is acquittal, walk it tall. The court did find in your favor, even if they acted like real weenies about it. They lost their mojo, and hopefully it will stop (or at least slow down) sniping at public opinion writers, like yourself.

It's also four days till our federal election, so this will be getting zero play in the MSM maybe not even in the pages of Maclean's because there are bigger stories to cover.

Check out the links to Kathy Shaidle's Five Feet of Fury blog for alot more information. Especially about the Christian taking the HRC to the HRC for having dismissed all complaints by Christians against gay activists for the past 10 or so years, while finding in favour of all of the gay activists who've taken Christians to the HRC in that same time period. She hopes to lose (well, would an HRC find itself discriminatory?) and then the case will be reviewed by a real court with real rules of evidence and procedure etc. and not the made-up HRC rules.
