Awesomely Awesome: US Soldier Calls Out Mahdi Sympathizers in Iraqi Police
— Ace

You thought Christian Bale could toss the f-bomb with aplomb and threaten to kick someone's ass?

That was just a cameraman. This cat threatens to kick Mahdi army's asses personally. He uses the Paul Anka style of leadership to awesome effect.

A lot of f-bomb here, but worth it. Newsworthy, so you can get away with it, I think.

He's got tungsten in his sack, tipster Greg says. Also known as wulfram.

2 Yeah, that's pretty awesome right there. And I imagine calling Muslims and/or Arabs "pussy" and telling them they're acting like women probably hurts them a lot more than it might hurt an Army recruit at boot camp

6 Those Iraqis should consider themselves that they are being yelled at by an American.  If it was the Germans, Japanese or Russians, they'd be shot dead, then screamed at.  But we're an evil nation, 'cause someone said "Fuck."

8 I forgot where I read it, but complacency and an unwillingness to change the status quo is common among Arabs. Something like a literal belief that Allah's will is always the reality, no matter how shitty. Whoever wrote that argued that's exactly why the Middle East is so far behind in technology.

Now I see evidence of it.

13 As former military, I agreed with everything he said up until he ripped into the commanders.  Loved what he told them, but should not have been done in front of the troops.  Destroyed whatever authority they had and left no chance for them to save face and improve.  Scream at the troops.  Then take the NCO to a private place and scream at them in front of their officers.  Then take the officers to a private place and scream at them.  I don't care how right you are, you do not single-handedly destroy trust in the chain of  command.  That is not how you get victory.  Again, what he said was pure golden, I loved it.  But he stepped too far and ended up doing more harm than good.

14 I love the -Shut the Fuck up when I'm talking to you asshole-attitude.  It's gotten me fired from a few jobs, but boy, you can see a respect in the opposing eyeballs.  Take no shit!  Man, I'm proud of soldiers like that.  I actually said 'shut the fuck up'  when I heard the cop blah blahing.  My wife laughed out loud when she heard the soldier say it right after me.  Thanks Ace, that made my day.

15 old guy,

normally I'd agree, but the troops need to know that he's holding the leadership every bit as accountable as the troops. Think of it as the exception that proves the rule.

18 XBradTC,

You're point is well taken, but publicly shaming the NCOs/officers is not the way to do it.  "Come here I want to talk to you too!"  The troops know you're getting your ass reamed, they don't need to hear your flesh tearing.  I've been on both the receiving and giving end of these crap storms, so I know whereof I speak.

Posted by: oLD gUY at February 05, 2009 08:43 AM (n1yDn)

19 It's about damn time someone broke it down for those guys.  I just got back from Iraq this past october, and my company spent about a year out of our 15 months working in Sadr City and the surrounding neighborhoods, we were there during the battle in Sadr City during the uprising last spring, and the Iraqi cops that work Sadr City are the most corrupt and worthless group of Iraqi cops I've ever seen (and that's saying a lot).  During the uprising they ran away like scared women and we had to retake their old positions more than once.  Some of them even went so far as transporting mahdi fighters and weapons in and out of the city, we finally had to ban the Iraqi cops from Sadr City alltogether.

Posted by: Melodic Metal at February 05, 2009 08:52 AM (weVyN)

23 Dltwlf18,

That's what we were reading in the papers.  Apparently, if they are any good they join the army.  The police are little more than low-life's looking to hang out at the barracks, steal equipment and get a paycheck.  Still, the British Army had a tremendous history of using pretty much the same sort of trash.  Wellington considered his troops to be little better than scum, thieves and rapists.  Its all in the training and motivation.

Tough mother fucker right there, tellling it like it is. I doubt he was expecting any Iraqis to step up to the plate. He sounded on the verge of disbanding the whole group and putting them back on the terrorist list. The paradigm of superimposing your will over the will of a large group is a Captain Bligh strategy doomed to falure. I'm sure that officer is aware of that. Now all we have to do is get that message to Ace.

Posted by: Krazy Kat at February 05, 2009 09:02 AM (K4Zxt)

28 The problem I think is that all of the cops in that area are all from the Sadr City area, leaving them pretty open to Mahdi Army influence.  As the fight wound down the Iraqi National Police and army took over a lot of the local police duties (but apparently things changed back since I left).  The Iraqi national police is actually not that bad, they are deliberately put into mixed units with others from all over the country and are practically a quasi-army themselves.

I understand that they want to give people in Sadr City jobs, but having cops from Sadr City patrol Sadr City just doesn't work.

Goddammit, I bet he'd look good in a kilt. Eyes right.

This is how von Steuben cursed at Valley Forge. If they had trees in Iraq, the leaves would have fallen off. Patton wanted to sound like that. He practiced.

I might have pursued a slightly different line of argument, but it's hard to fault the man in the arena. I say promote him to centurion.

My dad was a DI. On the scale of 1 to 10, I'd give that a 7. If he really wants a 10 you have to work on the delivery of his timing and tone. My dad could rip your ass in such a way that he could launch into a barrage of invectives and then taper back to a methodical ass chewing then build up a rolling boil of yelling that left you too stunned to talk but was spaced in such a way that you retained it. It's a skill to be sure.

That being said, you could tell that this guy meants it from the gut and that goes a long way.

37 "Fuck your stupid checkpoints, there worthless.  Get together, get all your weapons and start marching south towards the river.  I guarantee you'll get into a gunfight and I guarantee you'll fuck some people up."

This line is classic.  A lot of people try to argue that the reason the US military is the most powerful is because we have the best weapons and technology.  Put us with the same weapons as the insurgents and we would get our asses kicked.
This quote I think pretty much proves that mentality to be moronic.  The difference is that our soldiers have some serious stones and they don't fuck around.
God bless 'em.

39 I feel this troop's pain. The police are a mess. REGARDLESS of what any think tank says, demobilizing the Iraqi Army and rebuilding it from the ground up was effective (witness the results). The POE-leese weren't touched (per Bremer's orders) and they are OCHO URRIBE ( 8 up). Corrupt cowards. Period. There's plenty of corruption in the Iraqi Army ("my brother owns a construction company!") but they're not lacking in balls. Sometimes more balls than sense. In 2004/05 my battalion had an Iraqi company integrated with us for the year on Haifa Street, Najaf and other garden spots. Pure battlefield Darwinism: the studs lived and led. the cowards quit, didn't listen (de facto death sentence) or defected and we killed them last. This scene happens ten times a day in Iraq since 2003. No one trained this guy to do this. The NORMAL American rules of motivation do NOT work with adult men who have lived at home with their mommies until they marry. they ACT like petulant children or Czech super models. They will actually stomp around and pout. They get shame. I did it, he did it. If you go there you'll get it.

I'd love to see this soldier go to the floor of Congress and have a heart-to-heart with those pussies. I'd especially love seeing him call out Schumer or Dick Turban or one of those mouthy butt biscuits.

As to being in body armour and weapons to intimidate these clowns - I give you full odds that he could do that standing there in his shorts and the first dipstick that made a move in his direction would be taking a long road to recovery in physical rehab.

I love the all volunteer military. Today's troops don't have to put up with the dope-heads and other oxygen wasters of Viet Nam days. Keep on keepin' on troops!

42 Outstanding. Someone commented that he went too far. I think this was the straw that broke the camel's back (no pun). He must have begged, pleaded and cajoled countless times before this. If he had evidence that someone in the ranks actually was with the Mahdi's, he could have easily taken him out and put one in his ear for being a traitor. Then again, the unbiased professional MSM would've gone ape. Probably would've accused him of being with the IDF, what with his thick Joo/Israeli accent and all.

#35 -- Rob, yeah, he needs a bit more coaching in the subtle art of delivery, but he's on the right track.  My dad was a Marine DI, and the man could shred you without resorting to yelling or curse words (not that it stopped him from employing those)...ouch!

The sad part is, that maybe, maybe, if we were going to be there for another 5 to 10 years, Iraq might have a chance (this comes from my daughter over there now) -- but with the amount of time given...she's not optimistic, and is (rightly) pissed off.  So we step it up and hope for the best (at least that's the word from her) which is what this troop seems to be engaged in (and which gives him a pass, in my eyes, for reaming the brass in front of the men).

44 At the risk of incurring a lot of incoming, I'm going to pronounce FAIL. There's an old drill sergeant saying: "First you kick them, then you lick them." Breaking down the wrong attitude is only the first part; once you've gotten them broken down you have to build up the right attitude. I had more than a few drill and platoon sergeants who lit into us like that, but then when we were at the point of being demoralized shitbirds, they switched gears and spent just as much time psyching us back up into hard core motherfuckers they were looking for.

Think of it as the exception that proves the rule. I've never been in the military, but in a business setting this technique of dressing down the bosses (kind of "middle managers" in this case, really) works well. Essentially, our soldier is like a hatchet guy sent by central office to fix up a messed up operation and identify the problem people. By dressing down the "leadership" (who, apparently, are not all that leaderly [or effective] and may even be in cahoots with the Mahdi), this guy is showing that all he cares about are results. He also sends a signal to the rank and file guys that he is ready to listen if they have information pertaining to a bad egg amongst the ranks of their leaders. It sounds like this is a broken organization that needs a dose of reality... and time is running out for them to get help from our guys. 'Glad our guy had body armor on, though.

I completely agree that there's no way this is the 1st conversation this Soldier has had with these guys on this topic. There's no way to know what just happened in the intervening 10 mins before he lit these guys up, or what other ass chewings he gave afterwards, or whether he gave these guys a pep-talk an hour later.

All we get is one ass-chewing (and as someone stationed in Korea -- big Kudos for great use of the interpreter...that's harder than it looks.)

84 WEll, that will play well at the next demon-crat armed services committee. Obama wouldn't talk to them like that. Sheez.

Awesome clip (me too)!

Are there any more vids/links/names/info about what happened later on that day, or the next?

Thank you sir for your service, your crew, and any man who at least tried to move himself or country forward, no matter how pale they compare to you.

P.S. I think you need a faster, louder, translator(s) for the future...An electronic device perhaps???

86 For those who watched this and were shocked or upset, with their arrogant "I know better than you attitude", or their "this is rude" attitude, or "this doesn't work" attitude...  shut the fuck up.  You have no clue what you are watching...  this is basic training for these policemen.   You must break down the troops to build them up the right way.

I give this guy a  lot of credit, because he's RIGHT.  And (as a previous post said) THIS is why we are the greatest force on Earth.  It isn't the weapons, it isn't the trucks, it isn't technology.  It's because the American soldier is one kick ass tough dude and is a person that will ALWAYS get the job done, and ALWAYS has since the start of this country.

Oh sure, there are individuals that are tough in other armed forces  from other countries.  There are those exceptions.  But dang near the WHOLE of our forces are tough dudes - they are not the exception, they are the NORM.

We need a few of these guys to come in and talk to Arlan Spectre and Susan Collins...

This is so unpreductive to the counterinsurgency cause.  How can you expect people to respond to that.  If there are any bad guys in the group, they probably approached the others after the ass chewing and said something to the effect of  "You cant trust the Americans, look how they talk to you.. They think we are dogs."  Winning the trust of the host nation is what counterinsurgency is all about.

I wouldnt be supprised if this guy got reprimanded for this.

And you dont call out leaders in front of troops.

89 OMG!   WE NEED HIM ON THE HILL!    AND IF THAT IS THE WAY OUR HEROES NEED TO TALK TO THESE GUYS TO GET THEM TO DO THEIR JOB, SO BE IT!   IF THEY DON'T OUR GUYS ARE COMING HOME WITHOUT VICTORY AND TRUST ME, WE'LL BE GOING BACK AGAIN!  THIS GUY IS RIGHT ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT FROM US WHEN TROUBLE IS AROUND BUT THEY NEVER FIGHT FOR THEMSELVES.  THEY WANT US THERE, THEN THEY WANT US GONE.  LET THEM START CLEANING UP THEIR OWN MESSES!   THEY NEED TO DO THEIR JOB OR LET THEM HAVE ALLAH SEND THEM WEAPONS, SUPPLIES AND TROOPS!   THE BLOOD OF OUR MILITARY IS SAVING THEIR SORRY ASSES, AGAIN! THEIR FEELINGS ARE HURT??????

90 No doubt he is a great soldier whom I would want leading my squad. However, is he sensitive, caring and compassionate fellow who puts the toilet seat for his girl?

Posted by: Leftist Patriot at February 10, 2009 09:10 AM (F8iis)

91 I was never in the military but I can feel his pain. Our troops have families at home and some have not seen them for years. Some have kids they have never seen. They are feed up with the shit and wont to come home. We all need to stand behind this soldier. He spoke what Washington is afraid too. God bless you and everyone who has ever served our country.

95 I agree with #94 ENOUGH FUCKIN EXCUSES! This country is full of them and our so called leaders are fucking theiving idiots. If you dont start taking control of your own destinies and wait for everone else to do it, you deserve what you get. We sit back here in the US getting fucked everyday and let it happen. We then send our Sons and Daughters over there and some never return home. This guy deserves to say exactly what he said. He's over there and his family might not ever see him again. He was sent there by the same FUCK HEADS we call our leaders. This whole generation today takes no responsability because of the way we raised them. The same goes for the US goverment.....CHANGE YOUR VIEW OR GET READY FOR THE SHIT TO HIT THE FAN! When people cant eat and get the basic neccessaties here and the Goverment thinks we will follow them blindly, They WILL find out that not everyone will follow them.

96 I guess you have to get their attention somehow. I loved it. Congress needs to be talked to like this every day.War is not a game and people need to hear the"real deal" to svae their own lives. I would promote this man to General, Too bad some Americans are offended by the language. We had the same problem in Vietnam and I remember it well in 69, 40 years ago. It did motivate some of the south Vietnamese soldiers just by the tone even if they didn't get the Fuck word. Again, it is life or death, not a game.

100 I loved this video.. And for all of you who thought this was horrible, shame on you.. Unless you have a child or family member who is in the military you have no idea what it is like over there..  I just hope this young man doesn't get in trouble for this. Our media is horrible instead of supporting our soldiers  they love to find something they do wrong and then plaster it in the newspaper and create an outrage..

Posted by: Donna at February 14, 2009 03:29 AM (T0B9R)

101 This guy is a disgrace. He's standing there in body armor telling a group of people in shirt sleeves that THEY are pussies for not taking enough risks to advance America's cause. As if they asked to be invaded in the first place.

Posted by: Mary at February 15, 2009 06:30 AM (aVORJ)

103 Only some armchair  fucking pussy fagot with absolutely no balls or clue would call this guy a disgrace.. This NCO is a fucking hero.. Half of the scumbags he's talking to are corrupt traitors and have probably killed an American soldier themselves.. If you feel the need to fucking talk shit go put your ass on the line. To say he should be reprimanded for protecting his own troops and wanting these booger eaters to do their fucking jobs (that yes, you the US taxpayer are paying them for) just proves you liberal commie fucking ass clowns have no idea what it is to fight a fucking war and watch your men and friends sacrifice their lives for a noble cause..
I would love to see how fast you weak gutless pukes run away squealing leaving each other to die..

105 101, You are a fucking pussy liberal cocksucker. Do us all a favor and jump in front of a bus. 104, get back in your mothers basement and shut the fuck up until you contribute towards your country you free loading bitch.
This soldier is a Hero who deserves our respect and thanks. The Iraqi police/military has to step the fuck up and do for themselves and move forward in building their own country so we can leave, move over to Afghanistan and kill all those cocksuckers next. Whatever your feelings are about politics, respect our protectors or leave my country traitors.
Semper Fidelis, God bless our defenders.

115 Love that.
If you want to fucking impress me. Get your guns and start walking towards the river. You don't need any trucks. Just get some water and walk.
I gar-un-tee that you will get into a gun fight!
Then onto the NCO's and officers.
When was the last time you led from the front!
This guy is probably a Marine Capt. that is tired of seeing his troops shot up because the only backup he gets is from Americans!
OUT Fucking standing!
Hooya baby!

Being a former Marine I agree with what the officer said. He should however, have taken the commanders off to the side and chewed them seprately. The commanders have a difficult job as it is, they shouldn't be beaten down in front of the enlisted. Their job just became more difficult.

Would fight for someone like that any time.
