Andrew Sullivan's Book Receives Rave Reviews, Pouring In Daily

One little catch: the reviews are by Andrew Sullivan himself.

Pretty hysterical.

I was scanning over his screechblog the other day, and I did notice an inordinate number of superlatives lavished upon his book, by no less a literary light than Andrew Sullivan himself.

Taranto collected up a bunch of his biggest self-raves.

Priceless.

Give him props, though: At least he's willing to express his excessive self-regard under his own name. No "Wilson" or "Rick Ellensberg" here.

He's too infatuated with himself to see that maybe it's a problem.

3 A blogging pastor, Mark D. Roberts, is doing a great series on Sullivan and what he calls "retrofitted Christianity." He's not doing it to slam Sullivan, but to show the dangers of making Christianity out to be whatever you decide it is.

Of course one should publicize his own book.

Yes, Instapundit did.

But there's a difference between mentioning it -- saying, as Instapundit frequently did, "This is similar to a point I make in An Army of Davids" -- and lavishing superlative after superlative on your book.

Yes, if you don't believe in your product, you'll have a hard time selling it.

But most people are a little more circumspect about cringey Public Displays of Affection for themselves.
