— Ace Pittsburgh and Arizona fans, don't answer. I know your answer-- it's a perfectly understandable answer.
This might be the first Super Bowl since age 7 I don't watch. Sure, my boys got eliminated this year in a particularly ignominious fashion, but they often get eliminated and I always watch the Super Bowl.
This year I just don't care. My interest in football has been declining a bit as I've gotten older -- exactly why I am rooting for millionaires knee-deep in supermodels to have even better lives? -- but now my interest has so declined I might just take a pass on the big game altogether.
Is this just me? Is there something about how goofy the playoffs were -- the weaker team almost always winning (except Pittsburgh) -- that somehow makes this a dubious clash of champions?
Or is it just that I hate NBC and Bruce Springsteen? Who, by the way, have gone a combined twenty-five years since their last legitimate hit.
UPDATE [DinT]: No. You're not the only one who doesn't give a shit about the Superbowl this year. Although, I didn't give a shit last year either, so there. Still, it was quite a game, so maybe tomorrow will be too.
HDTV deals should kick ass next week. I waited. Yes I did.

And NBC's last hit? You mean this?
"In 2009 a crack fraud unit was not sent to prison by a military court for a crime they did commit. These men didn't have to escape from a maximum security stockade and now live in D.C. Today, still employed by the government, they survive as politicians with fortune. If you have a tax problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the 1040A-Team."

Today went out and saw "Taken." They have Muslim bad guys, not sure how that got past the censor.
However, before the show, they had coming attractions for the new Star Trek.
OMG. Kirk and Spock both looked to be about, oh, 16 at most, and had the same metrosexual look that is so popular in the boy bands. It looks totally the ghey. +10 ghey as a matter of fact.

1) Fairy-tale season, cinderella team, bla bla bla, they have been on fire. Cool.
2) All the teams that played against them really blew it. It's the Cards for God's sake.
The second reason kind of takes away some interest, although I am still pumped for it. But I hope the Steelers crush the Cards just because I think the Cards don't deserve to be there.

I have not given a crap about the entire NFL for several years. I can't even watch an entire game anymore. If there is copious beer and food I'll linger in the vicinity and maybe catch a glimpse of something like last years helmet reception.
But otherwise? Feh.

Al Michaels is a geniune professional who knows that fans watch for the game, not to listen to him. I'll never forget his cool head and knowledge when the earthquake hit San Francisco in 89. He instantly turned his commentary to describing the damage shown by the blimp and helicopter cameras while Tim McCarver could only mumble incoherently while trying to figure out how to get the load he just shit cleaned out of his suit.
Most of these commentators are just pitchmen and airheads. A possible drinking game might be to take a shot every time superdouche Collinsworthless giggles while he babbles.

I have to strongly disagree. After that night, I couldn't hear his voice without yelling at the screen for years. He had no idea what the fuck he was talking about. He may have sounded calm, but he was clueless. He couldn't tell what was Oakland vs. San Francisco, but he kept right on saying "that's a picture of Oakland" or whatever.
I'm from Oakland and was away at college in Philly when that happened, so I was worried about family. That night was a turning point for me, because I realized that the talking heads on TV would talk authoritatively when they had absolutely no clue what was going on.

Not just you Ace. No one gives a shit about a team that is in superbowl that shouldnt be. I don't know how the NFL can justify that Arizona is one the 2 best teams (being in the Superbowl) when other teams that have better records than them never made the playoffs. The playoffs is just screwy. What is Arizona, something like 9-7 going to the superbowl but teams like the Patriots that are 11-5 didnt even make the playoffs?
Teams like Arizon and the Chargers got to the playoffs by being the bet of the bad teams. Bruce Springsteen can shove it. I barely liked him when he was at his peak. Everyone I know that has heard his last album says it's a piece of shit that sucks.

That's strange, since Michaels is a native of the Bay Area. Keep in mind that Michaels is commenting on what he's seeing on the monitor at the time. Mixups with the engineers might have caused Michaels to comment on what he sees on his monitor to be totally different from what the picture being sent for broadcast was.

No Ace, I just think it is this game.
I'm from Houston, the English language is not capable of expressing my hatred for the Steelers, though it has been suggested to me that Bulgarian might just be capable of this, but on the other hand my dislike for Arizona, which has very little to do with the cardinals as a team, is also pretty profound. I am actually allergic to the state, everytime I go there I get sick, I was there just after Christmas this year, and I am still recovering from the tendons that burst in my chest from the case of pneumonia I got there. Not to mention that if they win, John McCain will be happy.
I mean if I root for one, it will instantly be overwhelmed for my hatred of the other. I can imagine no other match up like this. Several friends suggested Seahawks-Miami, but hey, Paul Allen seems like an ok fellow. Patriots vs Arizona, might be a bit of a chore, but Belicheck makes that one actually easy. Right now I think the destruction of Tampa by a miniature black hole or something like that, might be the best possible result. But I am sure there are some nice folks there, and I have nothing against the officials.
I'll be watching though

I'm rooting for the Steelers. I like Big Ben too. It's not live or die, I don't give as much of a shit about sports as I used to. All that aside, it's worth it to watch just to see Troy Polamalu flying around like a maniac. The wild hair aside, I'm big fan, the guy is a hell of a player, and no show-off.

No, he's not from there, he just lived there for a few years (I double checked Wiki). He was describing the scenes we were looking at and getting the location wrong. I could easily tell where it was, but I'm a native. I don't blame anyone in the booth or behind the scenes for not knowing where it was, but to go on national TV and claim you know is bad. The first thing I heard about the quake was Peter Jennings saying the Bay Bridge had collapsed. Which isn't quite what had happened. I knew my dad's commute home took him on 280, the Bay Bridge and the Cypress Structure, so it was a scary night until he called.

Arizona is a first time team... they've got a wiz-bang offense. Probably the best wide receiver to come out of college in the last 8-10 years.
Pittsburgh is football royalty trying to be the first team to win 6 Super Bowls... and they've got a scary-violent defense with an unhinged strong safety in Troy Polamalu who is just fun to watch.
And there have been so many other dreary matchups recently...
See how many recent matchups you can remember...
Patriots / Eagles
Patriots / Giants
Steelers / Seahawks
Colts / Bears
Ravens / Giants... but that was a while ago...
There are a number that just don't even come to mind
(list here)
Patriots / Panthers? Does anyone even remember that one being played?
Patriots / Rams?
Bucs / Raiders?
Rams / Titans? This one was memorable in retrospect b/c of the last second goal line play... but as far as pre-game interest.... zzzzz

What it offers you is the ability to watch some people beating up other people and to say "ha ha, I'm better than you!" to the fans of the losing team--whether it's deserved or not.

Now, maybe the Cardinals will show up in Tampa Bay with all the luck on their side and handily beat the Steelers. It could happen. But if they don't show up with a good dose of that post-season charm that got them this far, the Steelers are going to eat them alive. The Steelers come ready to rumble and rarely disappoint.
I'll probably watch but not with a great deal of enthusiasm.

The problem with football is the endless commercial timeouts. Go see an untelevised college game. It takes about an hour and a half.
I saw a Monday night football game a few years ago and I could not believe how boring it was with endless commercial timeouts. I left the game by the third quarter.

I thought McCartney's 2005 show was good, but it was after the 2004 dry hump show so a Maya Angelou poetry reading probably would have been an improvement.
Prince did the 2007 show well, I was surprised.
The Stones were a joke in 2006. If they're going to bring a geriatric British band on, I'm sure Roger and Pete would have done a nice Who showing.
I guess one small advantage of having Bruce do the show is that he'll be half in the bag and with his mumbling and gurgling no one will understand what the hell he's saying.

I love football and am looking forward to a good game. Even my Little Lesbian Girlfriend from Iran likes it. A couple of weeks ago we were treated to a double flea flicker, always a sight to see. We were smoking hashish and opium and having dirty-monkey-sex so my recollection is a little hazy. She is a 5' 1" gymnast and dog trainer and capable of many things, and she is coming over tonight. I hope I don't get injured again. Shalom.

When shadow commissioner Scott Boras decides where Manny is going to perform his drama this season.
My fellow Mets fans back in NY held a stupid rally to convince management to sign that cancerous crybaby.

NEW YORK – The Boss is owning up to a mistake. In an interview with Sunday's New York Times, Bruce Springsteen says he shouldn't have made a deal with Wal-Mart. This month, the store started exclusively selling a Springsteen greatest hits CD.
Springsteen told the Times that his team didn't vet the issue as closely as he should have, and that he "dropped the ball on it."
Didn't vet it? Just call it an "innocent mistake" and move on. What a no talent ass clown.

I'm wearing my ASU Pat Tillman jersey and am ready for some football.
How can you not love Kurt Warner? How could you not watch Fitz, who may be the reason people one day call Jerry Rice the 2nd best WR ever? How can you not get at least semi-wood in anticipation of one of the best defenses in the NFL this year going up against one of the best defenses in the last decade? What better use of you're time do you have planned for Sunday afternoon?
Why don't you just go shopping? The malls will be empty and Lane Bryant has a great dress sale going on. You've set my gaydar off with this thread.
And where are the damn cheerleader photos?

Now I discover they'll do a Dear Leader interview in the pregame.
You have got to be fucking kidding me. I bet Obama couldn't name two players for either team that aren't named Hines Ward (who is a former Bulldog, I might add). Christ Almighty, can we give this Moonie cult worship one goddam night off, please?
Get fucked, NBC, and I hope Olbermann gets struck by unseasonal Florida lightning.

I don't watch football. I watch the Jets. This year they started their December meltdown the last week of November. Their not even trying to break my heart anymore.
I'll watch the SuperBowl to see if Arizona can beat Pittsburgh, but I don't have much hope for them. I usually do dishes during halftime, so I wasn't mentally scarred during that incendent years ago. I didn't know it would be springsteen this year. I might do the dishes twice.

I'm with The Deacon and Aubrey: Bring on the Boys of Summer.
Looks like I'm with Deacon, Aubrey, and PA Cat (along with Ace regarding the Super Bowl). At the start of every season I try to watch pro football, but after a few serious injuries and seasons being upended because a major player is out injured I lose interest and never make it to the Super Bowl. Ah well, spring training starts soon.

My take:
First of all, my team (the Chiefs) has not even been to a Super Bowl since before I was born, so I don't seriously have a dog in the fight. While normally by default I go for the AFC team, my heart's with the Cardinals tis year --although if Pittsburgh wins I will not get wound up.
Leaving aside his Christianity --and the sincere practice thereof-- Kurt Warner is just an Everyman from the movies: played for an obscure 1-AA team, alternated Arena League and NFL Europe with stocking shelves in a supermarket. Plus, it feels good to see a guy older than me still throwing the ball around, and doing it damn well. (--and ladies, I might add that he is also testimony to the power of a wife who's a bit of a nagger. :-D )
I also went to FSU, and 'Zona has two starters from there, Boldin (drafted second round) and Dockett (third, a bargain). Yeah, Boldin got a bit of a big head this season starting with the holdout, but I still recall his valiant (if ultimately unsuccessful) start against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl at quaterback in place of Chris Rix, arguably the most forgettable four-year starting QB ever. Recalling that game, I can only hope the offensive wizards of the Cardinals have a great Wildcat play or two and put the ball in Boldin's hands.
Plus, it's looking obvious that Scott Pioli wants to hire Haley, the Cards' OC, and if the Cardinals win he'll look even smarter for holding out for him.
Sorry for the long post, but I may yet have more to add!

It's not just you, I couldn't really care less about who is in it or who wins.
My plan is to Tivo it and go play golf with the other "care-less" crowd. On the way home, I'll find out who won then watch the game Sunday night or on Monday cheering for the winner. I hate being on the losing side.

It's not just you. I'm from the Philly area so I don't really have a dog in the hunt. I'll watch just because it is the Superbowl, and in the hope that it turns out to be a good game. Then it becomes interesting, with so much at stake and the incredible pressure. Also like the ads.
But if it turns into a yawner, I'm outta there. Problem is, outta there to where at 7 or 8 on a Sunday night in 25 degree weather, with work the next day? Maybe that's part of the reason for the high ratings.

As for why I like professional football, it's the above reason in general, coupled with the fact that the people doing those things are the best in the world at it.
Plus, people get their asses beat.

I have been a bookmaker for twenty five years and the play on this game suck.......Big Time! My players just don't like the two teams and the like of play proves that. That will change game day just because it's football and some of my guys will just get the itch. This time last year i had so much fucking play, i was calling ever dick/head i new trying to get rid of some of that shit. I put up a lot of propositions play, 1st half, 1st quarter, flip the fucking coin, bullshit like that, my guys seem to like that shit. Personally, AREYOUFUCKINGKIDDINGME??!!! it's the fucking SUPER BOWL GUYS, hell yes i will watch the game, but that pregame bullshit they can stick that shit right up there frickin ass's. That's all i need is to see that sorry bastard keith olbermann and all those other NBC liberal pricks.

Other than that, I couldn't be more meh about the whole thing. I'm mildly rooting for Arizona, since I have more friends in Arizona and Phoenix than I do in Pennsylvania or Pissburg.
As for me, it's 13 days until the Daytona 500 and next weekend is the Bud Shootout. I might have to buy an HDTV and HD DirecTV receiver for the season...

Newly got an Amazon Kindle Fire? Want to play videos on Kindle Fire? If so, will you want to play the video on Kindle Fire? Of course, you will, but do you know what's kind of files formats that Kindle Fire will work with? Amazon Kindle Fire supports audio and video in AAC, MP3, MIDI, OGG, WAV, MP4 formats, so if your video files are not these formats, you will need to convert video to Kindle Fire supported formats.
The kindle fire video converter can convert any video in AVI, TIVO, WMV, MP4, MKV, FLV, 3GP, MPG etc., for playback on Kindle Fire, Apple devices, mobile phones, game players etc. What is more, it also can convert dvd to kindle fire.
