I'm from Houston, the English language is not capable of expressing my hatred for the Steelers, though it has been suggested to me that Bulgarian might just be capable of this, but on the other hand my dislike for Arizona, which has very little to do with the cardinals as a team, is also pretty profound.  I am actually allergic to the state, everytime I go there I get sick, I was there just after Christmas this year, and I am still recovering from the tendons that burst in my chest from the case of pneumonia I got there.  Not to mention that if they win, John McCain will be happy.

I mean if I root for one, it will instantly be overwhelmed for my hatred of the other.  I can imagine no other match up like this.  Several friends suggested Seahawks-Miami, but hey, Paul Allen seems like an ok fellow.  Patriots vs Arizona, might be a bit of a chore, but Belicheck makes that one actually easy.  Right now I think the destruction of Tampa by a miniature black hole or something like that, might be the best possible result.  But I am sure there are some nice folks there, and I have nothing against the officials.

I don't watch football.  I watch the Jets.  This year they started their December meltdown the last week of November.  Their not even trying to break my heart anymore.

I'll watch the SuperBowl to see if Arizona can beat Pittsburgh, but I don't have much hope for them.  I usually do dishes during halftime, so I wasn't mentally scarred during that incendent years ago.  I didn't know it would be springsteen this year.  I might do the dishes twice.

Plus, it feels good to see a guy older than me still throwing the ball around, and doing it damn well. (--and ladies, I might add that he is also testimony to the power of a wife who's a bit of a nagger. :-D )

I also went to FSU, and 'Zona has two starters from there, Boldin (drafted second round) and Dockett (third, a bargain). Yeah, Boldin got a bit of a big head this season starting with the holdout, but I still recall his valiant (if ultimately unsuccessful) start against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl at quaterback in place of Chris Rix, arguably the most forgettable four-year starting QB ever. Recalling that game, I can only hope the offensive wizards of the Cardinals have a great Wildcat play or two and put the ball in Boldin's hands.

Plus, it's looking obvious that Scott Pioli wants to hire Haley, the Cards' OC, and if the Cardinals win he'll look even smarter for holding out for him.

The reason I like football is because it's a fascinating clash between several levels of competition: strategy, tactics and execution. It's fun to watch and try to figure out the teams strategies, while you second guess their on-field tactics, all of which can be either blown to hell or perfectly realized in the execution. It's the same reason I like to play poker.
